Waldeck (principality)

Waldeck (or Waldeck-Pyrmont) was a Principality within the Holy Roman Empire.

1625 the principality Pyrmont[?] became part of the county. 1712 the counts were promoted to be princes. The principality was granted independence in 1815 by the Congress of Vienna, and became part of the German Bund[?]. In 1867 the administration was taken over by Prussia. It was absorbed into the German Empire in 1870 and the Principality was abolished in 1918, when it became the state (Freistaat) Waldeck-Pyrmont of Germany. 1929 after a plebiscite it was absorbed into Hesse, the Pyrmont area became part of Hanover state, now Lower Saxony.
