Building of a Montana-class battleship to
be named USS New Hampshire (BB-70)
in honor of the ninth state
was authorized 19 July 1940, and assigned to the
New York Navy Yard; but, before her keel was
laid, construction was canceled 21 July 1943. New Hampshire
would have been the third ship to bear that name had she been
commissioned.
Other ships of the United States Navy have borne the name
New Hampshire; see that index page.
