The album expanded on System of a Down's previous work, keeping the angular riffs and harsh rhythms but adding a pop-friendly sense of melody. With oblique, political lyrics, Toxicity quickly established System of a Down as one of the premiere metal bands of the new millennium. Even the September 11 Terrorist Attacks did not keep the album and three singles from reaching the top of the charts.
Toxicity was nu metal band System of a Down's second album released. Produced by Rick Rubin[?], Toxicity was recorded in 2000 and released on September 4, 2001 by American Recordings. The album was a hit across the United States and Canada.
