Sycamore is a name applied at various times and places to three very different types of trees, but with somewhat similar leaf forms. The sycamore (or sycomore) of the Bible and the Middle East is a fig tree, Ficus sycomorus. The sycamore of Europe is a maple, Acer pseudoplatanus. The sycamore of North America and the Far East are the members of the platanus genus.
