List of surgical procedures

Redirected from Surgical procedures Surgical procedures have very long and daunting names, for those who even bother to look them up. Many have been referenced on such shows as ER, or the TLC Network show, Trauma: Life in the ER. However, their names are not actually very difficult to figure out. One must simply "dissect" the surgical procedure (no pun intended), much like a college Literature student would do. Let us take an example.

Splenectomy: -tomy is a suffix meaning either the removal, or the "cutting up" of a certain part of the body. Splene- obviously means spleen. So, it is the removal of the spleen (or sections thereof).

This may seem elementary, but there are many people who seem daunted of relatively "simple" surgical procedures, especially when they are being performed on themselves, or a close friend/family member.
