Statutory law

Sometimes - incorrectly - referred to as statuary law.
Generally, primary written law set down by a governing authority in response to a perceived need to clarify the functioning of government, improve civil order, or answer a public need. The Statutes, Law or Code of a state or nation form the basis for this law. Other, lower authorities or municipalities may also write administrative or municipal codes which have the force of law. These writings are the law of their particular agency or area only, and are subordinate to the law of the whole state or nation, but they nonetheless form a part of the body of statutory law.
Contrast, case law, precedent and common law.
