Root beer is a non-alcoholic beverage made from some combination of Bourbon Vanilla, Licorice Root, Sarsaparilla Root Extract[?], Sasafrass Root Extract, Nutmeg, Anise, and Wintergreen[?] among other things. Root beer is about 3% of the U.S. soda market.
It was invented by Charles Elmer Hires[?] on May 16, 1866.
