Ripoll is the capital of the comarca of Ripollès[?],
in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain,
located at 691 metres above the sea, on the confluence of the river Ter and its tributary Freser[?], by the Pyrenees near the French border.
Population 10,908 (1996).
It has a famous Benedictine monastery in Romanesque style, founded by the count Wilfred the Hairy[?] in 879.
