Our Town

Our Town is a play by Thornton Wilder. The play, set on a basically bare stage, has little action. As the narrator, the Stage Manager, says, "nothing exciting happens in Grover's Corners." It is a story about character, the interactions between people as they live their ordinary lives. Our Town opened on February 4, 1938 in New York City.

The 1940 film adaptation stars William Holden, Martha Scott, Fay Bainter, Beulah Bondi[?], Thomas Mitchell[?], Guy Kibbee[?] and Frank Craven[?]. It was adapted by Harry Chandlee[?], Craven and Wilder. It was directed by Sam Wood[?]. The movie was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Scott was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress, and Aaron Copland was nominated for Best Score.
