Numeral

A numeral is a word, symbol, or group of symbols that represents a number. The numerals "1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ..." are Arabic numerals, differing from Roman numerals "I, II, III, IV, V, ..." but they represent the same numbers. Similarly, words can be numerals; we could as easily express the same numbers by using the numerals "one, two, three, four, five, ...". In the hexadecimal numeral system familiar to the computer community the letters from "A" to "F" are commonly used to form numerals. More exotic ways to represent numbers include Church numerals.
