Metallica (album)
Metallica was the band Metallica's fifth album, released August 12, 1991 through Elektra Records. It is also called The Black Album because of its cover, which is almost completely black, with just one of the band's symbols visible as a slightly different shade of black. The cover is a parody of the Beatles' The White Album, just as the fictional band Spinal Tap have an album with an all-black cover, referenced by the Metallica release. The album was their first mainstream, commercial success.
