Lord Mayor of London

The Lord Mayor of London is the Mayor of the City of London. The Lord Mayor is the head of the Corporation of London[?]. The Lord Mayor of London is not to be confused with the Mayor of London, an elected politician for London, England.

The post of Lord Mayor of London has existed ever since 1189 and was first held by Henry Fitzailwyn. Since 1215 the post has been sanction by a Royal Charter which stipulates that each year the newly elected Lord Mayor must present themselves to the monarch and swear loyaly to the Crown. This ceremonial procedure now forms part of the Lord Mayor's Show[?] an annual procession from the City of London to the City of Westminster.
