Rongo Redirected from Kahukura
In Polynesian mythology, Rongo ("sound") is the god of song, peace, flora and agriculture, particularly associated with the sweet potato. He is a son of Rangi and Papa and is associated with the rainbow under the name Kahukura. On Easter Island, he is a creator god (see the Rongo Rongo tablets. He lives in Avaiki, and may have built it beneath Mangaia[?] in the Cook Islands.
In Tahiti, Rongo is known as Ro'o (also Ro'o-i-Te-Hiripoi) and is considered a god of health, invoked by those who are ill. He also taught shamans the art of medicine. His father is Atea.
