Civil rights history

There have been a number of struggles of disadvantaged groups to obtain full civil rights. These include:

• The US civil rights movement in the United States
• Apartheid in South Africa
• Communism in the Soviet Union as relating to freedoms of religion, speech, press, etc.
• Rights of women and non-muslims in countries dominated by Islam
• Various gay rights movements in countries across the world.
