Cambridge United F.C.
Will use promoted to league when appropriate, and Colchester Utd (frex) will have more than one entry. Two highest places? Or shall I just use "common sense" and say Old Div 2 == Div 1? (Possibly with an explanatory page). I need to verify the contents. Comments so far? Muppet 14:19 18 Jun 2003 (UTC)
Cambridge United Football Club are an English football league club.
Based in the Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, they play at the Abbey Stadium.
Usually known just as Cambridge (ignoring their older non-league neighbours Cambridge City), they are nicknamed the Us.
The club was founded in 1912 (or 1919? differing sources here) as Abbey United (apparently after the Abbey district of Cambridge in which they play). They played in local amateur leagues with some success. In 1949 it turned professional and took the name Cambridge United in 1951. They played in various non-league divisions.
The club was elected to the League in 1970 to replace Bradford Park Avenue[?] after success in the Southern League.
