Brac

Brac (Italian Brazza) is an island in the Adriatic Sea, with an area of 396 kmē, making it the third largest island in the Adriatic. Its tallest peak, Vidova Gora[?], or Monte Sveti Vid[?], stands at 778 m, making it the highest point in the Adriatic. The island has a population of 13,000, living in numerous little villages, ranging from the 'main village' Supetar[?], with more than 1,000 inhabitants, to Novo Selo[?], where only a dozen people live. The island is part of Dalmatia.

Other villages that are the especially interesting from a tourist perspective are Bol[?], Skrip[?] (the oldest village), Pucisca[?], Splitska[?], Nerezisce[?], Donji Humac[?], Gornji Humac[?], Dol[?], Sutivan[?], Sumartin[?], Praznice[?], Murvice[?], Povlja[?], Dracevica[?] and many more.

Brac lives on tourism, and then on fishing and agriculture (especially wine and olives) and selling its precious, white stone.

The population of the island consists mainly of Croats and Catholics. Due to a heavy emigration, especially during the 20th century, many of the homes are now abandoned.
