Aylsham

Aylsham is a historic market town on the River Bure in Norfolk, England. The river rises near Aylsham and continues to Great Yarmouth and the North Sea.

The town is mentioned in the Domesday Book as Elesham and Ailesham, said to be derived from Aegal's Ham. Until the 15th century, the linen and worsted industry was important here as well as in North Walsham and Worstead.

Sir Humphrey Repton, the landscape gardener, is buried in St. Michael's Churchyard.

Aylsham has a thatched waterpump.

It is also the terminus for the Bure Valley Railway, the Bure Valley Way long distance footpath and the Marriott's Way.

Blickling Hall, a National Trust stately home is a mile and a half away.
