ATTAC
Association for the Taxation of Financial Transactions for the Aid of Citizens (ATTAC - Association pour la Taxation des Transactions d’Aide aux Citoyens) is an organization founded on June 3, 1998 in France. The idea came from an editorial article written by Ignacio Ramonet[?] and published in Le Monde diplomatique in December 1997.
While it was founded in France it now exists in over 40 (8/02) countries around the world.
Originally a single-issue movement demanding the introduction of the so-called Tobin tax on currency-speculation, ATTAC now covers a wide range of issues concerning globalisation.
Though ATTAC criticises the neoliberal ideology dominating the economic globalisation, it is not "anti-globalisation" but rather supports globalisation policies that are sustainable and socially just.
