Alamo

Alamo.jpg The Alamo is a mission in San Antonio, Texas which was the scene of a famous battle between Mexican and Texan forces during the Texas Revolution.

After a 13-day siege starting on February 23, 1836 by an army of 3,000 Mexican troops led by General Antonio López de Santa Anna, all 189 Texas volunteers defending the Alamo were defeated and killed, and the fort was taken on March 6.

When General Santa Anna's army was defeated in the Battle of San Jacinto, Texan soldiers used the now-famous battle cry, "Remember the Alamo".

Alamo is also the name of a town in California. See Alamo, California.
