The series return of The Block drew solid ratings on Sunday night but perhaps not as spectacular as some Nine executives may have hoped for.

After finishing with 3.3 million viewers in 2003, the opening night for The Block in 2004 drew 1.57 million.

It was still enough to win its timeslot and please the advertisers, but it may also be confirmation that viewers are loosing some interest in lifestyle and reality programming.

Sunday night’s top 10 shows were:

1 46TH ANNUAL LOGIE AWARDS NINE 2,294,947
2 LOGIES RED CARPET ARRIVALS NINE 2,123,048
3 THE BLOCK NINE 1,574,760
4 HONEY BADGERS OF THE.... ABC 1,229,083
5 MY RESTAURANT RULES SEVEN 1,186,078
6 THE WORLD AROUND US SEVEN 1,164,309
7 AMERICAN IDOL TEN 1,041,844
8 1ST TO DIE (Movie) SEVEN 884,050
9 THE EINSTEIN FACTOR ABC 816,302
10 RAYMOND (Repeat) TEN 735,073
