The Hothouse is beginning to get nasty.

To inject some much needed scandal into the ailing reality show, a contestants secret past is coming back to haunt him on national TV.

Contestants Phil and Libby Smart actually separated a few years ago and Phil found a new love. He and his then partner applied to go on Channel Seven’s reality show Temptation Island but narrowly missed out.

Not long after the failed application and the failed love affair, Phil was welcomed back by Libby and they rekindled their relationship.

But it wasn’t until Friday’s episode of The HotHouse did Libby and the couple’s family and friends discover what Phil had been up to.

And according to whispers circulating the weekend press, Ten’s switchboard has been swamped with phone calls from more women wanting to spill their beans on Phil’s past.

It’s a testing time for both the cast and the producers of The HotHouse. Dismal ratings have plagued the series since it premiered on Ten last week.
