Johnny Depp: Wonka cast hots up

Today's Hollywood Reporter has the scoop on the last bit of casting for Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Young actors Jordan Fry and Philip Wiegratz have been added to the cast. Fry will play Mike Teavee, the brainy bully who watches too much TV, and Wiegratz will portray Augustus Gloop, the chubby kid who takes a bite out of everything he sees.

The trade also reiterates recent reports about the rest of the young cast... AnnaSophia Robb will play Violet Beauregarde. Julia Winter will play spoiled little rich girl Veruca Salt.

Chocolate Factory also stars Freddie Highmore as Charlie and David Kelly as Grandpa Joe. Willy Wonka will be played by Johnny Depp.

The Roald Dahl adaptation tells what happens when an eccentric candy maker holds a worldwide contest where five children are awarded a tour of his legendary factory. One boy and his grandfather are specially chosen to take over the operation.

Frequent Burton collaborator Danny Elfman will be scoring the film.

Warner Bros. is shooting for a 2005 release for the film.
