Next week on Things To Try Before You Die
  Author: Nine Network | Aug 17, 2007, 16:49

Next week Things To Try Before You Die takes Nine’s viewers on an Arabian adventure as Jules, Livinia and Gary explore the Middle East – a timeless landscape full of myth and mystery.

Sit back and enjoy the birthplace of modern civilisation and the guardians of the ancient world. We lift off as the sun rises over the longest river in the world, the Nile in Egypt. Jules Lund takes us on a history lesson in a hot air balloon over Egypt before discovering one of the most authentic markets in the Middle East and learning the art of the Shisha as he takes part in a century-old tradition of smoking tobacco (shisha) through a hookah pipe.

During his Middle East travels Jules also visits the Egyptian cities of Karnak and Luxor. In Luxor he visits one of the world’s most amazing temples where he feels the might and power of the pharaohs’ legacy.

In Cairo, Livinia Nixon hots up the countdown when she learns the art of belly dancing before checking out the world’s largest museum which holds priceless historical treasures, including the riches of Tutankhamen. She then ventures to the base of the mighty pyramids and wanders inside one of the ancient wonders of the world.

Gary Sweet travels to Dubai, the fastest growing city on the planet, and checks out this fascinating playground for the famous, the royal, and the ultra seriously loaded. He also ticks “learn to play polo” off his to-do list at the Dubai Equestrian Centre and after an action-packed day learns what $14,000 a night buys at the Habtoor Grand penthouse.

Along the way he gets a modern taste of the desert, trying sand boarding and dune bashing. But his visit to the Hammam bath house proves that the Aussie actor is ready to tackle anything for a job when he cops a pummeling in a hilarious TV segment. His masseuse manipulates Gary’s neck in ways you wouldn’t have thought possible.

TTTBYD also reveals other incomparable Arabian delights, including sailing in Oman, how to buy your own country, diving in the Red Sea, visiting the holy lands of Mecca and Jerusalem, getting up close to Petra, the archaeological site of breathtaking stone carvings in Jordan, and the amazing Libyan ruins of Leptis Magna.
