This week, eBroadcast broke new ground by releasing the first combined Television and Movie Guide application for iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Android operating systems.
Within hours of the release on the iTunes, the app shot to the top of the Lifestyle charts, knocking Oprah Winfrey’s O Magazine app off the top spot. While maintaining the top spot in the Lifestyle category, TV and Movie Guide Australia is currently climbing up the overall iTunes charts.
The combined 2-in-1 app provides users with a one-stop-shop for checking local free-to-Air TV times and cinema sessions in Australia. The app also provides trailers and a Twitter-like tracking feature to allow users to “follow” their favourite TV show.
eBroadcast’s Managing Director, Glen Murphy believes the future in online publishing is wireless and is directing a large part of his company’s skill set and resources to growth in that area.
“Throughout 2010, we witnessed a huge amount of interest and activity in mobile application use and have worked with our developers to build these exciting new apps.” says Murphy.
“With our 2-in-1 TV and Movie Guide app released simultaneously across four platforms, we have placed our faith in a new audience embracing our content that we’ve traditionally published via the web for the past 15 years”
“In the first 24 hours, we’ve reached number one placing in our chosen genre and top five overall. We couldn’t be more pleased.”
eBroadcast is also expected to release a version of the application for the Windows Phone platform later in the year, as well as regular updates to its existing supported platforms.
