Disney Channel has ordered an additional 13 episodes of the critically acclaimed hit animated comedy, "Phineas and Ferb," bringing its second season to a total of 39 episodes. The Emmy-nominated series was created by Dan Povenmire ("Family Guy") and Jeff "Swampy" Marsh ("The Simpsons" and "Rocko's Modern Life") and is executive-produced by Povenmire and co-executive produced Marsh. It is a production of Walt Disney Television Animation. The announcement was made today at Comic-Con in San Diego by Gary Marsh, president, Entertainment, Disney Channels Worldwide.

Gary Marsh said: "We're thrilled with 'Phineas and Ferb' -- critically and creatively -- and what's especially gratifying is that kids and parents alike are rejoicing in its brilliant slapstick comedy and smart, relatable storytelling. The series fully celebrates the art form of animation, and Dan and Swampy have created pure, honest to goodness playfulness in every episode."

"Phineas and Ferb" ranks as U.S. TV's No. 1 animated series among Kids 6-11 (869,000/3.6 national rating/4.2 coverage rating) and Tweens 9-14 (700,000/2.9 national rating/3.3 coverage rating). It premiered around the world on February 1, 2008 and, in first quarter 2008, reached 73.9 million unduplicated viewers worldwide. It is among Disney Channels' top 10 series among key kid demos in most territories, and among the top 5 in 12 territories. In first quarter 2008, "Phineas and Ferb" ranked No. 1 in its primary time period in Australia, Italy and Canada among all TV (Source: NTI, 2008 to July 20).

In the series, produced in traditional 2D by Walt Disney Television Animation, Phineas Flynn and his stepbrother, Ferb Fletcher, set out to conquer boredom and make every day of their 104-day summer vacation count, even if it means building a backyard beach, becoming one-hit wonders or creating a new hybrid season, "S'Winter," that brings both sunshine and snow. Their older sister, Candace, makes it her mission to get the boys in trouble, but every time, without fail, the proof she needs mysteriously disappears by the time she can get Mum to come and see her brothers' antics. Meanwhile the family's pet, Perry the Platypus, may seem like any other domesticated house pet, but he has a secret life as suave Agent P, deftly battling the evil Dr. Doofenshmirtz to save the Tri-State area.

Guest stars in the second season include John Larroquette, Sheena Easton, Lorenzo Lamas, Corbin Bleu, Damian Lewis and Cloris Leachman.

The series features original songs encompassing many genres of music, including pop, rock, swing and jazz. It is nominated for two Emmy Awards, for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics and Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music (the main title theme song is performed by Grammy nominated artists Bowling for Soup).
