WIN Television to produce new regional daytime program 'Susie'
  Author: WIN Television | May 17, 2007, 15:06

WIN Corporation today announced it will commence production of a new weekday variety program. SUSIE will be produced at WIN Television’s headquarters in Wollongong and broadcast across the WIN network each weekday at midday, commencing Monday, 25 June 2007.

SUSIE will be hosted by dynamic media personality, Susie Elelman and will take a special look at regional events, areas and people across the WIN Television network. This exciting new program, which is the only program of its kind across regional Australia, will feature an entertaining mix of lifestyle segments, news, sport, entertainment, expert advice on everyday situations and topical issues including health, family, career, relationships, beauty and fashion.

Bruce Gordon, owner of WIN Corporation and Australian media heavyweight says WIN’s history and strength in television will ensure SUSIE is another high quality production engineered and broadcast from WIN’s regional studios.

WIN’s commitment to produce relevant programming for its audience is evident through its unmatched news service keeping regional Australia up-to-date with local news in 19 regional centres. WIN also produces the regional fishing show, Fishing Australia from WIN Canberra.

“SUSIE reaffirms WIN’s firm grip on the television industry. With an audience of over 5.2 million people across Australia, WIN recognised the time was right to deliver a program specifically fashioned for our viewers and a program that expands existing advertising opportunities,” Gordon said. “SUSIE provides yet another platform for our clients to present their product to Australia.

“WIN Corporation has mixed strong business sense with entertainment and community awareness, creating and reinforcing trusted brands, well known to regional Australians for many years now, SUSIE will follow suit.”

WIN Corporation CEO, George Papadopoulos is delighted to offer WIN’s loyal audience a product created and produced purposely for regional Australians – the viewers to whom WIN Television dedicates its service.

“Under the skilled guidance of Bruce Gordon and his son Andrew, WIN has always been willing to expand the boundaries of its business and embrace new ventures to provide viewers with the best possible product in a constantly evolving industry,” Papadopoulos said.

“WIN is able to take the best of Nine’s programming and supplement it with strong local shows like WIN News, Fishing Australia and now SUSIE and that’s a benefit to both viewers and advertisers alike.”

Susie Elelman, accomplished author, television and radio broadcaster, is elated by this unique opportunity to front SUSIE and do what she loves five days a week.

“It feels like I’ve come home and its so exciting to be working with the talented team here at WIN, many of whom I worked with at the start of my career,” Elelman said.

“This is the only daily variety program produced by a regional station and broadcast across Australia. The enthusiasm is so exhilarating and the driving force is also our fundamental difference - offering regional viewers a predominantly regional program.”

Susie Elelman, host and executive producer of SUSIE, began her television career with WIN Television and spent 13 years honing her presenting and production skills in the Wollongong based studios. During her time in the media she has interviewed an array of celebrities including Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Whoopi Goldberg, Audrey Hepburn, Kylie Minogue and George Clooney.

Her first book ‘Half My Size – The Thinking Person’s Diet’ is a best seller and Susie was recently voted Most Dynamic Author for 2006. Highlights of Susie’s media career include over eight years as a presenter/reporter on Good Morning Australia. She was often seen on Network Ten's Live at Five News presenting the weather, on Clive Robertson's Newsworld, Hinch, and regularly with Stan Zemanek on “Beauty and the Beast”.

WIN Television has a plethora of experienced staff who have pioneered many of the programs developed by WIN since the early 1970’s. Programs that came from WIN’s stables include Variety Italian Style, King’s Kitchen - hosted by Bernard King, Showcase, The Tonight Show, 11am with Susie and Jazzercise. WIN also co-produced telemovie Last Chance in 1986, which was distributed internationally. WIN Wollongong’s Commercial Production Manager and producer of SUSIE, Cilla Aslanidis worked on many of these programs and is thrilled to be part of this new endeavour.

“In 1974 WIN produced the very first colour drama series ever made on videotape called Silent Number. WIN was also the first commercial television station to produce national and international music video clips for Festival Records and stars like Olivia Newton-John, Sherbet, Edith Bliss and Richard Clapton,” Aslanidis said.

“It’s an absolute pleasure to take on this project. I’m really looking forward to the challenge and the fact that it’s giving younger staff the opportunity to extend their skills in all areas of television production.”

Series one of SUSIE will be telecast across the WIN Network weekdays at midday commencing Monday 25th June and run through to November 30 2007
