SBS to broadcast Beckham's Galaxy debut
  Author: SBS | Jul 9, 2007, 10:26

SBS has today announced its exclusive free-to-air television rights to broadcast the exhibition match between LA Galaxy and FA Cup premiers, Chelsea LIVE from 10.45am (AEST) on Sunday 22 July.

Hype surrounding the presentation match continues to escalate after the world’s most recognised footballer, David Beckham announced his intention to make his LA Galaxy debut against Chelsea in the game scheduled later this month.

The match will see the former England captain’s much awaited return from injury to begin his career playing football in the United States after recently transferring from Spanish side Real Madrid.
LA Galaxy supporters are hoping Beckham will boost the team’s poor season performance and secure much needed points on the competition table.

Beckham's return to form contributed to Real Madrid’s League title and saw him regain his place on the England team.

Visitors Chelsea will return to the pitch fresh from their summer break, basing their pre-season training in Los Angeles. Only months after SBS broadcast their thrilling FA Cup Final win against Manchester United, Chelsea are looking to build on their 2006/2007 season with friendlies scheduled against LA Galaxy and three Mexican sides in their lead-up to their European season.

“SBS has been committed to championing football for over a quarter of a century and continues to support the world game,” said Noel Brady, Executive Producer – SBS Sport.

“With some great football presentations scheduled in 2007, SBS cements itself as the home of world football in Australia.”

SBS will broadcast the LA Galaxy vs. Chelsea match LIVE from the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles as ‘The World Game’ Football Feature from 10.45am (AEST) on Sunday 22 July, with kick-off at 11.00am (AEST).
