Above is my 1979 Chevrolet Blazer that I and Melissa drove from Seattle to the southern tip of South America and back. At the start of the trip there was a new 350 in it. It has a 4-inch lift, Rancho suspension, trailer hitch both front and rear for a Ramsey winch, dual battery setup, 33-inch BF Goodrich All Terrains with 2 full-size spares, 40 gallon fuel tank, custom welded roofrack to hold the two spares + gear, strong-box welded into the bed for valuables and much more. Picture is at the end of the road in Argentina. Over 35,000 miles on the trip in ten months. Like a rock! Re the
Darien Gap:
At the time there was a ferry called the Crucero Express running from
Panama to Cartagena, Colombia but 1 month before we got there it was
discontinued which made things a little more complicated. We ended
up shipping the car in a container from Costa Rica to Cartagena which proved
to be easy on the Costa Rican side and a bit of a nightmare in Colombian
customs. Gotta no Spanish or you're screwed! Cost about $1000 for the
shipping about $100 customs fees in Colombia, while we flew and waited for
the truck. About 5 days shipping time. -
