The Queen has used a number of Land Rovers as parade vehicles over the years. This 1954 series-one model was used on Australian visits; sharp-eyed readers may notice Sydney land-marks in the backgrounds of the photographs.
The Land Rover's rear bodywork is of course special, and the interior, even the cockpit, is neatly upholstered unlike any normal Land Rover of the era. The Monarch normally stood in the rear holding the hand-rail when surveying the crowd. 1954 was a more innocent time and a full armoured-glass enclosure, as found on recent "Popemobiles" and the like, was deemed unnecessary.

Thanks to Anthony Maeder for pictures 1-6.
Richard Hughes is researching royal Land Rovers and would be grateful for any information about them.
