Isuzu / General Motors Holden Deseo 4WD

The Isuzu Deseo concept four wheel drive (right) on the General Motors Holden stand at the 1997 Melbourne Motor Show. The Deseo is driveable, not a mock-up, being powered by a 3.2L V6 engine and having a semi-automatic five speed gearbox.

The chassis is of lightweight aluminium and instead of a rear-view mirror, there is a camera which displays on a screen on the dash-board.

Doors open to leave an enormous pillar-less opening. Rather than have rear-hinged "suicide" doors, the rear doors slide or fold back on struts.

Inside, the rear seats are mounted slightly higher than those in front, to give the rear passengers a view of the road. This should be good for families; parents will know what is meant.
