2001 model year
GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado heavy-duty (2500HD, 3500, 3600) pickups
get the option of new Duramax Diesel engines and
Allison 5-speed automatic gearboxes.
The Duramax Diesel 6600 is a new 90° V8,
with common-rail direct injection by Bosch and
4-valves per cylinder (NB. OHV not OHC).
A 7.8 litre Duramax 7800 was introduced by GM in 2000.
2000:
The power output of the Vortec 4.8L and 5.3L engines increased and
the extended cab gains the option of a fourth rear access door in
addition to the standard third access door.
