Daihatsu faults and problems

Rocky

5/'01: I've been investigating the noise of the Rocky's transmission. Finally I found one of the importer's mechanics. He says he's been working for years in Rockys, the noise is from the gearbox - there is in the lower side a secondary shaft (locally called triple) and, because of a design problem, this shaft is deformed, twisting along, helically. It happens to some units, not all of them. He has no notice of this problem being dangerous, just a noisy annoyance.
Probable fixing cost, about US$700 - (seven hundred). If the shaft is not found locally and has to be imported from Japan, it could take about 90 days. He is the second mechanic to say the same. Anyway, he agreed that my Rocky is in a "best" general condition, compared to the average mid nineties ones found here. It is a relief to know it is not dangerous, because of the US$700.
