If you've got to go somewhere remote it will pay to read this book by one who has been mounting expeditions for thirty years: One of his early efforts was leading the first coast to coast crossing of Sahara Desert in army Land Rover 101s.

Tom Sheppard was an RAF pilot and test pilot and his professionalism shows through in this thick hardback book. It is full of good advice on everything from clothing to driving to mechanics to shipping and customs, and also on the reasoning and principles behind the various choices.

Organised as a manual, the book is numbered by sections and then by pages within sections. There is a good index to make the book easy to use.
