Mazda reveals the MX Sport Tourer concept car. The car has a hybrid power system: A 2-litre S-VT petrol engine and a 40kW electric motor. A battery is good for 15 minutes driving on electric power at upto 50km/h, but the petrol motor gives a conventional range.
The body has 4 doors, RX-Evolv-
RX-8- style,
pillarless with rear suicide doors.
The roof can be retracted for open air driving.
MG (Rover)
shows the new
MG ZR hot hatch,
MG ZS 4-door & hatchback, and
MG ZT "executive saloon".
Renault: A 4x4 version of the Kangoo will go on sale in the summer. It uses a development of Nissan's full time all wheel drive system, and the gearbox from Renault's 4x4 Scenic RX4. The body has wider wheelarches. Two engines are offered, a 1.6-litre 16-valve petrol engine (95bhp) and a 1.9-litre common rail diesel (80bhp).
VW show a 4 litre W8 Passat with 4motion 4x4 - in the show rooms this year.
