The Sims 3

I can't wait for this to come out! (INT February 20, 2009)

Quoted Text

Sim houses and neighborhoods will be entirely in one seamless, continuous map, "What you do outside your home now matters as much as what you do within".

Quoted Text

All the families in the neighborhoods age, live and gain memories, even when the player is playing a different family.

YES finally!

Quoted Text

Of the eight needs of The Sims 1 & 2, only six - bladder, hunger, energy, fun, hygiene and social - remain. These will be completed by moodlets - attributes which are acquired by special events (minor events like tooth brushing, and major ones like wedding), and affect the Sims' behavior. The Want and Fear system of The Sims 2 is replaced by Wishes and Opportunities. Sims will also have a Lifetime Wish - similar to the Lifetime Want from The Sims 2: University

Sounds confusing :S

Quoted Text

Several minor features from The Sims 2 expansion packs appear in the original The Sims 3, such as the "young adult" life stage, lifetime wants, personal inventories and mobile phones (The Sims 2: University), private cars and restaurants (Nightlife), fishing (Seasons), jewelry, beaches (Bon Voyage), toothbrushing and ceilings (Apartment Life)[13][14] but none of the main features (universities from University, seasons from Seasons etc). So to clarify, there will be no weather, no pets, no apartments, no universities, no open-for-buisiness style jobs or businesses, no downtown (though this is no longer necessary because restaurants and clothes shops, etc are all included in Sunset Valley) and no holidays.

As in previous games, Sims can paint, but paintings will now be more unique to each Sim.

All new features are set difficulty levels for each family, hospitals where pregnant Sims may give birth, and bicycles for riding around the neighborhood.

Quoted Text

Footwear and headwear can now be chosen individually. The Sims 3 does now include the ability to modify a Sim's height. Players can customize nearly everything in the game, including furniture, clothes and shoes. Rod Humble described the new interface in Create-A-Sim as "drastically different". Freckles can also be added to Sims.

Yay!

Weight and colour will be continuous!

Quoted Text

Sims' personalities

Personality configuration for Sims has also been made more complex, with the original 'percentage bar'-style personality points replaced by a combination of traits, similar to those in the personals section of newspapers. Zodiac signs are no longer included in the game. Toddlers have two traits, and a new one is added for each new life stage, until they reach young adulthood - so they will have 3 as a child, 4 as a teen, then 5 as a young adult, which are the five traits they will stay with for the rest of their lives.

In The Sims 3, youngsters inherit their parents traits, but if a young Sim grows up "badly" then they will get bad traits.

In Create-A-Sim you will have a list of over 70 unique traits to choose from. Some of these are Evil, Good, Good Sense of Humour, Charismatic, Loner, Computer Wiz, Neurotic and Flirty. It is not possible to give a Sim traits that contradict each other (such as Brave and Cowardly).

The player can now choose their Sims' favorite hobby, colour, music genre, food, etc., an option not available in The Sims 2.

Quoted Text

Seamless, living neighborhood

On March 19, 2008, EA revealed new game play experiences for The Sims 3, one of them being neighborhood exploration. Players will be able to have their Sims wander around the world outside of their homes with no loading screens. This has been deemed a significant improvement from The Sims 2's method of restricting a player to a single lot at a time. This also means that the entire game is played in real-time, so Sims that the player is not using will still age and may get married, have children, and/or gain other memories and experience other events. With the absence of loading screens, it is possible to zoom in and out from a complete view of the neighborhood to the inside of a house, a feature not technologically possible in previous The Sims games. Players will be able to interact with every building in a neighborhood; none will simply be there to improve aesthetics.[15] The game ships with one neighborhood with 97 lots; a neighborhood editor will become available for download later. Some buildings will be transparent for the player, while others - especially workplaces - will be "rabbit holes" where Sims are hidden.

The environment will be more dynamic with shadows and trees moving in the wind.

[edit] Sunset Valley

The neighborhood that The Sims 3 will take place in is Sunset Valley, Pleasantview before The Sims. The neighbourhood itself is set before the neighbourhood we see in The Sims, therefore The Sims 3 is a prequel to The Sims 1 and 2. The Goths will return as their younger selves and so will Mrs. Crumplebottom. There will also be a lot of new neighbors such as the Nouveau Riche family and the Keaton family.[16]

[edit] Movie Making Tool

The Movie Making Tool was first seen in The Sims 2, but has been expanded. Players can upload a movie and then shape it in any way. The player can cut the movie into pieces, give it effects, make a title, transitions, cutting, pasting, etc. However, this can only be done online. There is also a tool to produce screenshot stories. [11]

[edit] Advertising

Fat Princess is about a capture the flag situation but you 'capture' the Fat Princess. The Princess, originally kidnapped when slim is fattened up by the opposing team so she will be harder to 'capture'. I think it sounds hilarious and as an over weight person do not find it derogatory at all. Apparently 'feminists' in the US are b itching about it. Make that 'Fat Feminists' I think she is cute. Her feet are so tiny she cannot even stand on them and her arms are so fat they look like stumps. It will be released soon

Gaming apes wow zoogoers
April 12, 2007 - 12:12PM

At 4, Bernas is not the computer wizard his mom is, but he is learning. Just the other day he used his lips and feet to play a game on the touch-screen monitor as his mom, Madu, swung from vines and climbed trees.

The two Sumatran orangutans are part of new Zoo Atlanta research that uses computer games to study the cognitive skills of the primates.

The best part? Visitors to the US zoo get to watch their every computer move.

The orangutans play the games on a touch screen built into a tree-like structure in the habitat to blend in with their environment. Visitors watch from a monitor in front of the orangutan exhibit.

Zoo officials hope opening the interactive research to the public will raise awareness of the world's rapidly diminishing orangutan population, which is on track to disappear completely in the next decade.

"The more we understand about orangutan's cognitive processes, the more we'll understand about what they need to survive in the wild," said Tara Stoinski, manager of conservation partnerships for the zoo.

In one game, orangutans choose identical photographs or match orangutan sounds with photos of the animals. Correct answers mean food pellets.

There also is a painting game where they can draw pictures by moving their hands and other body parts around the screen. Printouts of their masterpieces are on display in the zoo.

The computer games test the animals' memory, reasoning and learning, spitting out sheets of data for researchers at the zoo and Atlanta's Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience, a partner in the project.

Volunteers from IBM worked nearly 500 hours developing the games, tweaking until the activities were challenging enough for the orangutans.

The data will help researchers learn about orangutans' socialising patterns, such as whether they mimic others or learn behaviour from scratch through trial and error, said Elliott Albers with the Centre for Behavioural Neuroscience, a consortium of researchers at seven universities in the Atlanta area .

In the end, researchers hope the data can point to new conservation strategies so that the 37,000 orangutans living in the wild on the Indonesian islands of Borneo and Sumatra do not continue to die off.

Just two other US zoos - the National Zoo in Washington, DC, and Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago - are conducting similar research, but only the National Zoo and Zoo Atlanta allow visitors to watch, Stoinski said.

AP

http://www.smh.com.au/news/technology/simian-plays-the-sims/2007/04/12/1175971232506.html
Photo from same website
