Posted by: lurveit, October 15, 2007, 7:22pm
I don't know if anybody even stops by the auto section of eblah but I'm after some help guys...

I'm needing to organise membership for roadside assistance and too insurance for accidents etc I'm also trying to hook up insurance with the same company for my home contents and my lovely dog who's getting a little older. Would anybody know who the best company out there would be? and how much would I be looking at.. god, I have no clue about any of this!  :-/

Thanks  ;)

Hi Lurveit....
NRMA are excellent and reward you for staying with them over time. They cover home contents, roadside assist, comprehensive insurance but not sure about pet insurance. RACQ cover all of those things also and cover pets (my daughter is with them). Your comprehensive will cost more at your age but after you turn 25 it is less. They allow you to pay by the month Bpay or Direct Debit etc and don't charge extra for the convenience.

Sometimes companies will want your custom and will do a better deal. If you tell them, 'Look I have had better quotes' and give them an amount (not too outlandish) they will match the deal.
I was with ALIANZ for home contents and when I saw APIA had lowered their age to 50 year olds I got a quote. When I rang ALIANZ they matched the deal and added 5k to my homecontents coverage.  ;)
When taking out insurance, especially home contents, make sure you cover everything. Don't make the mistake of just insuring big ticket items thinking someone will burgle your home and take the TV, microwave, set top box, DVD recorder and PC. Imagine, gods forbid, that there was a fire and you lost the lot. Your clothes, personal items, etc etc and add that all up.  ??)
I have my contents insured for $65 thousand. One of my pet hates is when some silly bu**er is on the news saying "we lost the lot and we have NO insurance". It costs me $6.27 per week for that kind of coverage. Don't tell me someone on the dole/pension/whatever can't afford that per week.

Good luck lurveit!

Don't be afraid to shop around either, Lurveit.  I do it every time anything is due to be renewed.  I always seem to come back to SGIC, although AAMI comes close.  Remember you are the customer, so make them earn your business.

And I'm pretty sure NRMA and one other one offers really good discounts and 1 hour early entry (empty park anyone) to dreamworld :D
sorry lol, I don't know insurance but I had to add that ;p
