A writer (David Duchovny) tries to juggle his busy career, his relationship with his daughter and his ex-wife, as well as his appetite for beautiful women.

From Internet movie database.com

---

Well it's available to those with downloading access... the first person to write a comment on the Internet movie database didn't like it, I do.  I do a lot.

I found the entire program & premise extremely interesting... from the problem with the 16 year old daughter of the man who is currently taking his wife to having a bad day, go into the cinema, if having a guy in front of you on a mobile phone & his reaction

I've seen the ads on TEN for this and am looking forward to it. :) Geez, how long has it been since David Duchovny has been on TV? lol
Any idea on when it might start down here? They keep saying 'coming soon' but that could mean anything.

I just love David Duchovny and after watching all of the X-files over the entire series', whenever I see him I feel like I am seeing an old friend. I think the promo for it where his daughter points out there is a "naked lady in your bed" and the follow up to that is very funny ;)

I just saw the first episode of this and LOVED IT! I can't wait for the DVD to come out. :D I look forward to watching the rest of the series. Also, David Duchovny is brilliant in it, I've never thought of him as a very good actor, but he is amazing in this show.
'tis not a show for the kiddies though, that's for sure. lol

If you think he looks better fully dressed then you might not like him in this as he has his clothes off a lot of the time.  In the first 5 mins he gives his female fans a nice a** shot (not that it did much for me, but the ladies will like it :P).

Just seen the first 2 eps and I love it.  Plenty of moments that had me lmao.  Definately not a show to let your kids stay up and watch though.

& you people call yourselves fans of the X-Files...

That scene where he rose from the water of the swimming pool in those red Speedos was the cause of many a young woman hyperventilating & developing the vapours when it occurred on our screens in the 90s

I can still remember the magazines reactions heh

It's somewhat problematic, but she must be at least 18 for us to see what she is showing as she portrays a 16 year old

I just finished watching the second episode & the writing is so razor sharp I just hope they can continue the standard they have set themselves... especially in regards to Hank's interaction with his ex-girlfriend's fiancé...

The blog that he composed quickly in the computer store was brewing inside him & literally exploded brilliance ... it makes me want to start writing

August 28, 2007 12:00am

SEEMS even the promos for David Duchovny's new TV sexcapade Californication are too hot to handle for some people.

Channel 10 staff were bombarded with complaints about the sexy new show yesterday – even before the first episode went to air.

Funnily enough, most hadn't seen the promo but were instead responding to a puritanical 4BC talk show segment about the raunchy content and decided to jump on the bandwagon.

A spokesman for Ten was yesterday trying to hose down the furore, suggesting callers actually watch the show – which aired at 9.45pm last night – before passing judgment.

Bet the wowsers wouldn't be pleased to note former Nanny child star Madeline Zima's (the precocious but annoying Grace Sheffield) part in the action.

She's now a sexually rampant teenager with a penchant for punching her partners in the face in flagrante.

And for those who missed the shirt popping action the first time around, don't despair – Ten is running an encore screening on Sunday at 10.10pm.

not watching it again. Not enough of a gritty or interesting story line for me and all the gratuitous sex with a different woman every day just didn't do it for me. I don't like my Duchovny as a smarmy sex maniac, give me UFO's, Aliens and Mulder any day. Just my opinion so don't bag me for it, please. ;)
Little Gracie has grown up. How much editing did they do on it for that time of night, I expect none at all. Watching Gracie's unbound breasts was a little bizarre. ??)
Posted by: astrogirl, August 28, 2007, 8:54pm; Reply: 48
I watched it earlier... I can't say I hated it, or even disliked it, but... I didn't love it. I'd probably watch it because there was nothing else on, but I wouldnt go out of my way to watch it. DD was certainly different from his previous roles.

I think that part somewhat traumatised me. lol I still think of her as little gracie in the nanny. She still looked like her, to a point. It was weird seeing her doing that.. to DD no less. lol

I don't know I just got the impression it was like Torchwood to a degree. Designed to be shocking. To push the envelope and get people talking about it. From the first bit with the nun, to the next scene in the bed, to the daughter finding the girlfriend in bed (was that the girl from Buffy?) to the scene with "gracie",  to finding out she was only 16. It was all a bit too much I think.

And of course, being tv land, you just know that DD's character won't get hauled to jail and charged with having sex with a minor (age of consent in california is 18 I believe.)  ::)

I think the moral crusaders need to get the hand off it! It's an adult show, it's not on at 2 in the afternoon which is when kids have a free run of the TV. if your kids are still up at the time it's on you could always be the parent and tell them they can't watch it or any other show you don't want them to. From what I saw I don't think it was much different from sex in the city which never caused such an uproar, and I'm going to say the reason why is because it was geared towards a female audience.

I don't know if you're mentioning Madeline Zima is 16 because that's the age of the character she was playing? But they actress DOB was 1985, child stars grow up get over it!

I agree. Personal opinions aside, I see no reason why this show should be censored or moved to a later timeslot on the account of a few prudes. Sex and the City used to play at around the same time (if not earlier) in its heyday and it never aroused any controversy (that I know of).

I think it's sad when they constantly complain about the content of BB when there is much worse to see on TV.

Little Gracie has grown up.

Like yourself I was a big x-files fan and watched it through all 9 seasons, for the first 20 minutes or so I found it strange watching Duchovny playing this character and wasn't warming to the show's lack of storyline (he just kept bedding for some unknown reason hot woman after hot woman). However, the last 10 minutes got me over the line when little gracie appeared at his ex's house - I liked that twist!

(My wife is weirded out by little gracie as she used to watch the nanny and still sees her as 6 years old whereas I never watched it so I don't find it weird at all  :))

Posted by: SuziH, August 29, 2007, 8:28pm; Reply: 54
Aqua, I know she is all grown up and just a year younger than my son, it was just strange to see all the women's breasts, including Madeline's, jiggling in all different directions having never seen that perspective before.  ??) I am not bagging the show or whoever wants to watch it. All I am saying I wont watch it again. Checked it out, not my thing. I like my TV Meatier but with less Flesh, if you get my drift ;)
Actually I had the DVD recorder on FFWD 3 speed for the second episode 70% of the time :P

This today....
Californication labelled pornographic
Wednesday Aug 29 18:39 AEST

With a title like Californication it was never likely to be a TV show for all the family.

But some critics have labelled the new Network Ten program offensive and pornographic.

The American show debuted on Australian screens at 9.30pm on Monday night, and featured former X-Files star David Duchovny engaged in four sex scenes in the 40 minute episode.

Ten billed the show as a fresh, edgy and sexy new drama, but some media commentators have called the show nothing more than pornography, while religious groups say it attacks the Christian faith.

The opening sequence of the first episode depicted Duchovny's character Hank Moody praying to Jesus in front of a giant crucifix while a nun performed oral sex on him.

The Australian Christian Lobby said the scene was unacceptable.

"We have 64 per cent of Australians identify themselves as Christian, and yet you have a program like this that is trying to mock them or insult them," spokeswoman Glynis Quinlan said.

"Australians love a joke and there's nothing wrong with that, but that doesn't mean you should take it to the point of demeaning situations and trying to ridicule people's faith.

"Where is the humour in that?"

Ms Quinlan accused Ten of using shock tactics to boost ratings.

"As far as I can tell this program is only about sex, sex and more sex," she said.

"There's no excuse for having four sex scenes in the first episode, including one involving violence and statutory rape.

"What we're seeing is more and more programs put on TV that push the boundaries further and further, with the idea obviously to get the ratings by shock tactics."

Californication attracted 981,000 viewers on Monday night, but snagged 40 per cent of younger viewers in the 18-49 year-old bracket in its timeslot.

Ms Quinlan called on the program classification watchdog, Free TV Australia, to investigate whether Californication complies with the standards.

"We've been looking up the classification standards, and it actually says ... on the mature audience classification standards that a program will not be acceptable where the subject matter serves largely or wholly as a vehicle for gratuitous, exploitative or demeaning portrayal of sexual behaviour or nudity," she said.

"And I would say well that doesn't seem to fit with that guideline to me, from what I can see the program is all about gratuitous sex.

"So you wonder if there may be a breach of that classification standard there and I would hope this is something the regulators will be looking into."

Ten said Californication may not be to everyone's taste, but it complied with the code.

"Californication has absolutely hit the mark with Ten's audience and we couldn't be happier," said chief programming officer David Mott.

"It is the kind of edgy programming our audience demand from us."

Ms Quinlan said the Christian Lobby were also concerned about the graphic imagery in the Seven Network's new police drama City Homicide, and offensive content in comedian Chris Lilley's new mockumentary, Summer Heights High, which starts on the ABC next Wednesday.

omg....serioulsy sometimes i wish we could ship all those puritanical religious nuts off to a island...however un PC that sounds.... if 60% of aussies identfiy with the christian faith, what about the other 40%...some of us who don't have our mind brainwashed by religious mumbo jumbo are entitled to watch whatever we like!!! grr this sort of thing makes me very annoyed.

Meanwhile where are the zealots when every night of the week our television is saturated with thousands of murder scenes and violence....its so hypocritical. Sex is a natural thing and not everyone subscribes to the catholic notion of sex only for having babies...although we all know that arguement is rubbish, they are doing it as much as anyone else, they're just not talking about it!

I loved Califonication, i've been telling everyone to watch it and had to 're-educate' my mother about the show as she had only heard the stupid views being discussed on talkback radio.. I'll most definately be watching next week and every other week .... Monday nite rocks!

ps: i suppose these ppl had something to say about Dwight Shrute with his 'gay-dar' on the outting episode of the office right afterwards too....*sighs*

although i'm probably preaching to the choir, i wanted to point out how ridiculous it is for these lobby groups to make a fuss about channel 10 showing Californication in a 9.30pm timeslot, when on tuesday nights on channel 9  at 9.30pm they are broadcasing VERY graphic reinactments of real life murders.
This weeks ep showed a mother and baby getting speared in the head with a cross bow  and then showing the bodies being chopped up with a chainsaw......but not a word from the lobbies.... i think this just shows the stupidity of such groups which lack the ability to make rational arguments.

If you mean that bloke from Nip/Tuck then yes. :)

Those religious nuts should seriously learn to shut the **** up. Dozens of MA15+ and even R18+ programming plays on Pay TV EVERY DAY, even before the watershed timeslot, and SBS frequently plays MA15+ rated shows after 9pm but for some reason they NEVER receive any complaints.

Californication was given a very specific warning before the program aired as it was deemed "Unsuitable for persons under 15", and they mentioned the frequent coarse language, sex scenes, and adult themes, although the drug use was so fleetingly brief that it shouldn't have been mentioned under the MA15+ rating.

It's not up to "family groups" to decide what adults can and can't watch. If they want to do society a favour, they should send their kids to bed before 9pm and let the grown ups enjoy a bit of risque programming.

The first time I ever saw Julian was as a bare chested young man in a Jeans ad. Australia went wild, like they did for Elle when she did the TAB ad. in a bikini. Julian was on the side of a road thumbing a ride I think (it's a long time ago). Read also... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_McMahon

I can still recall the advertisement... he was portraying a US Marine who had finished his tour of duty & was now back stateside.  He was standing next to a large post box, as he slowly removed his uniform, neatly folded it & put it in a brown paper parcel addressed to the US Marine Corps.  He stood wearing a white T-shirt & denim jeans.

I know that it's only semantics & marijuana use can be labeled as the gateway ... but, we actually see much more prevalent drug use on other programs including shooting up

Omg!!

I have only seen him in charmed as Cole, he was awesome!!

edit- danni minogue :O woah  i never knew that.

Many Clare surnames are derived from the powerful septs which ruled over the area. Common surnames are O'Brien, McNamara, O'Grady, McInerney, Hickey, Griffin, Whelan, McMahon, Clancy and Considine. In addition many unusual surnames such as Talty, Lillis, O'Halloran, Minogue, Clune, Finucane, Ginnane, O'Davoren, McGann, McLysaght, and O'Loughlin can be found due to the isolated nature of the county.

They were both irish then. my grandparents were minogues.

Unless you guys are joking, it shows the quality of our education system.  We have no right to tease 82% of 16 -24 year old North Americans for being unable to find that country on the map of the World.

And I was surprised to see that Bobby Hill herself Pamela Adlon guest starred on the show. :D

Pull Californication off air: church groups

September 04, 2007 12:00am

OUTRAGED family groups will be calling for a national boycott of any sponsor of the Ten Network's drugs, sex and vomit-laden program Californication.
Following last night’s episode - which depicted two characters smoking marijuana and having sex before one vomited - furious community groups have said they are hoping something can be done to get the show off the air.

Instead of calling for just a boycott of the program, the Australian Christian Lobby’s managing director Jim Wallace is calling for advertisers to be “held accountable” for their support of the controversial show.

“There will be calls to boycott sponsors of the show,” Mr Wallace said. “And I’ll be leading the calls.
“(If they are concerned about standards) they should not be sponsoring this show.”

He said that he had organised someone to record last night’s episode in order to identify all advertisers.

He said the lobby group will also call on the sponsors to stop advertising during the show.

While last night’s episode was being broadcast, the Catholic Church’s Father John Fongemie was leading a candlelight vigil outside Ten’s Sydney office.

Fr Fongemie said that the number of people praying with him last night was larger than last week, and that he hoped to see even more people in the coming weeks.

“We had 30 people the first night, and (last night) it was larger than last week,” Fr Fongemie said.

A Ten spokeswoman said the title of the show should “alert parents that it is not suitable for children” and that each episode adheres to its rating M or MA rating.

“Every episode is reviewed by expert classifiers to ensure compliance with the (television) Code (of Practice),” the spokeswoman said.

“Californication may not be to everyone’s taste but it complies with the Code.”

OMG, I love this show and that vomiting incident was classic.  Churchy people are just going to have to get used to this show, or maybe just not watch. I bet half of them havent seen it yet and basing their stance on hearsay which is always a good basis.

Agree, they just shouldn't watch it just as I don't watch religious TV for the fact I consider it a really bad work of fiction!

Loved it when the dad told Mia to put some clothes on and she replied It's nothing he hasn't seen before  :)

So far, I'm enjoying the show. I do think the sexual content is a bit excessive (to my liking), but it's nothing that would have surpassed the MA15+ classification. Good to see something different on TV for a change.

The Office was a letdown though, but I'll continue to watch both shows as long as TEN keeps them on primetime.

Those church groups might as well lobby inside DVD stores hoping that they'll stop selling R and X rated movies. ::)

And let me just say that Madeline Zima is hot hot hot! :) And Hank's ex reminds me of Adam Sandler's love interest in Billy Madison.

I am bored with religious groups telling me what I can and cannot watch... they had a rather interesting TV series removed by the US network after one episode, a Book of Daniel... granted, it was rather blasphemous, what with the main character being a priest with an addiction to drugs & speaking to an imaginary Jesus*

I watched the latest episode of Californication last night &

All I have to say to the bible bashers, and do gooders out there, STOP TELLING ME WHAT I CAN OR CAN'T WATCH.  You have three choices people;

a) Turn to another channel
b) Turn the tv off
c)  You are not my father /mother so back off as I will tell you where go and that is where the sun does not shine.

What has happenned to freedom of speech in this country.  I enjoy the tv show if you don't then don't watch it.  Oh!!! what a great idea.. DUHHHHHH  as Cartman would say.   :P

Boobies!

Okay actually, I guess I'm sort of wanting to comment on the little protest because I in most cases have a lot of respect for... well at least the one church that I've been to, which is part of the greater community of which the little group protesting was from, and I have this:  "Yeah whatever, I guess they do have a right to protest.  Grand waste of time though.  So far the show doesn't really make the guy's train wreck lifestyle too glamorous and although downplaying it a bit, it does take a look at the side of it that isn't so happy.  Hopefully that continues."

I think this show is wayyyyyyy less controversial than 1st thought and really is becoming somewhat tame. No raunchier really than sex & the city or others. Opened with a big bang, but now is just simmering along. I'm of the opinion that if the opening eps were similar in nature to the past few weeks the show would not nearly have caused such a ruckas with over-zealous do-gooders.

Just my thoughts..

It also has a lot to do with the media... they have given up trying to have the show removed & are currently interested in former footballers ODing.

Saving Grace is still as blasphemous as ever, but because it will be screened on one of the subscription television channels & not commented on by the media, the religious right will not know about the existence of the aforementioned program ... well we all know that they do not actually watch the programs that they condemn

I know it's odd.. but my dad hates watching or ME watching for that matter, things that are considered 'rude' like south park etc..  only because it's his Tv.. i have one in my room, but i have no ariel.. and the only tv in the house with an arial is the one in the lounge room, and he is ALWAYS in the lounge room :(   he thinks the show is rude, but i really like the story to it.. it's funny!
I think he's still coming to terms with the fact that i'm not a  little girl anymore  lol!!!

Dad's house, Dad's TV, Dad's rules!

My second ex husband was like that and that IS why he is another Ex. ;)
I bet BB's Mum doesn't get a say either. ::)
When my son, now 23, was living at home I watched South Park, Futurama, The Simpson's, Stargate SG1, Stargate Atlantis, Battlestar Gallactica and on and on. I actually became very fond of the Stargate series' and Battlestar as well as some others. No doubt if he was still at home he would have me watching Californication each week also!  :D
I hated as a young person and then later in my second marriage having that power of what I really wanted to watch, taken away from me.

I also watch Californication "secretly". I don't think my parents would necessarily "ban" me from watching the show, but they certainly wouldn't approve. But then again, both my parents and I watched Fat Pizza together. ??) Embarrassed, my mum proposed that we never do that again (as a family). :P

Oh, and if there's a sex scene (even if it's mild/brief) on screen, my parents tend to change the channel and switch back after a minute or two. ::)

It's not THAT unusual.

watching several programs a week with my father, I find it terribly uncomfortable when there're sex scenes or a fair amount of nudity... primarily because he feels it necessary to offer a comment along the lines of, " sheesh ... you wouldn't get many of them for a pound "

& I am far older than you

In the PC version, the "Love" aspiration is known as the "Romance" aspiration. And basically their primary "Want" consists of kissing, making out with, and "woohooing" as many Sims has possible. ;) Apparantly the highest aspiration want is for a Sim to "Woohoo" with 30 different Sims. ??)

Just to fill you in on last night's episode...

Hank FINALLY writes some new material, perhaps driven by his one-nighter with Karen last week. Hank begs Karen to review the material, but she declines, insisting that she didn't have the time; but promises him that she will read it. Hank receives a surprise paycheck for his new material, and splurges it on a Porsche (and bangs the saleswoman... surprise surprise). Hank also allowed Becca to go on a spending spree for a new guitar. She eventually chose a second hand guitar owned by a struggling single father as it looked like something that "Keith Richards vomited on".

Meanwhile, Charlie, overjoyed with the fact that Hank has written again, tells his wife Marcy that everything is going to be okay from hereon in, and his problems over the past few months were caused by his depression. Marcy reveals that she's been having an affair with Dani, and says that she knows about the S&M that took place between Charlie and Dani. Annoyed with her husband's adultery, she takes Dani back to her room and tells him that they should both "f*** whoever we've ever wanted to f***... let's rock out with our c***s out!". A bewildered Charlie responds... "what if I don't want to... rock out with my c*** out?"

Finally, Hank asks Karen if she had read his novel, and she declines; confessing that she wants to put her past (i.e. Hank) behind her. She even said that she no longer loves Hank.

During the episode, Karen tried confessing to her affair with Hank to Bill, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. Depressed, Hank drives home and on the way, has his expensive new car stolen from him. Meanwhile, Mia is reading Hank's new novel... and if precedent serves correctly, she'll wind up claiming the material as her own.

This is one of my favourite shows at the moment. It's a little slow in terms of character development, but it's very entertaining, and it dons a likeable cast of characters. And anybody who watches this for the sex scenes has obviously never heard of porn. ::)

I do like some of the shows "naughty moments" such as the threesome scene with Pamela Adlon, and the scene in the second episode where Hank threw up on Bill's painting, but frankly I think the show could do without some of the more superfluous sex scenes.

By the way, apparantly Ten has censored the sex scene in weeks episode which involves Hank and Charlie having a threesome with another girl, only for Karen and Marcy walk in on them. It's pretty graphic, although I think it should have fallen within the MA15+ guidelines. Hell, I saw worse on an SBS program last night in which there was a rather gruesome rape scene. ??)

The sex scene in this week's episode was much stronger (and more detailed) than the sex scenes in the Pilot, but even in its uncensored form, I think it could have passed with an MA15+ rating (considering that I've seen worse on other MA rated shows).

Karen - Family
Becca - Pleasure/Knowledge
Posted by: Cassiepeia, November 1, 2007, 7:30am; Reply: 140
Becca should be Knowledge. The pleasure aspiration is a very, very selfish one. Sims spend all their time trying to do things to please themselves and they don't care about the rest of their sim family or friends. Becca isn't like that, she's a smart, caring little cookie. So knowledge (in my opinion) suits her best.
It'd be nice to find some custom hair like Becca's as well. :D I love her hair.

I didn't know there was a Pleasure one... i play it on the PS2 and it only has 5 aspirations..
Now that i think about it... Hank would suit the Creativity one... coz he's a writer..  but then again, The love aspiration sounds more like him...
so:

Hank: Romance
Becca: Knowldge
and Karen:  possibly creativity  ?

how does that sound?

and Bill?  maybe...   er.. I dunno....  money?

yes Becca's hair is awesome!! :D

Pleasure is exclusive to the Nightlife expansion on PC. :)

Sims in pursuit of pleasure enjoy having a good time whether they go bowling, stay home from work for a day etc.

I loved every second of it. And Pam sounded EXACTLY LIKE Bobby Hill when she was talking to Hank in her stoned stupor. :P

That's a good question since it wrapped up so nicely

it wasn't CSI  I got it mixed up with NCIS :P  hehe!

My predictions for next season:

they will show Becca's new relationship with that new boy at the party..
Karen will probably rethink the whole situation
Bill will try to get her back
Hank might have a little trouble comiting.
Mia could get a boyfriend, and tell everyone the truth that hank actually wrote the book.

Rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers are suing executives at cable TV network Showtime over the pay-per-view channel's hit show Californication. In the suit, filed in Los Angeles on Monday, the band alleges the network used the name of their Grammy-nominated 1999 album to give the saucy new show, starring David Duchovny, the buzz factor. The Red Hot Chili Peppers bandmates claim unfair competition, alleging their Californication hit and the album it comes from achieved "extraordinary critical and commercial recognition" and Showtime is using it to boost the credibility of their show. Band frontman Anthony Kiedis states, "Californication is the signature CD, video and song of the band's career. For some TV show to come along and steal our identity is not right." U.S. Trademark Office records show that Showtime filed an application to trademark Californication as an ongoing television series, but the rights have not yet been granted. The band wants Showtime to rename the show and hand over damages.

I was watching Chelsea Lately last night & it seems they are halfway through filming the second series

Some of it involves the adult film industry apparently

I'm so glad there will be a second series. :D I was worried this stupid law suit would ruin it. And honestly, even though I own that (fantastic) CD, it wasn't more than a passing thought, flittering briefly through my head, that the names were the same. People are too precious and greedy. :P

Duchovny Checks Into Rehab For Sex Addiction
28 August 2008 6:31 PM, PDT

X-Files star David Duchovny has entered rehab in a bid to control his sexual urges.

The actor, who is married to Tea Leoni, has a sex addiction, according to his lawyer, Stanton Stein.

In a statement the attorney has handed to website People.com, Duchovny says, "I have voluntarily entered a facility for the treatment of sex addiction. I ask for respect and privacy for my wife and children as we deal with this situation as a family."

Ironically, the 48-year-old, who wed actress Leoni in 1997, plays a sex-loving author in his raunchy hit U.S. cable show Californication.

Duchovny and Leoni have two children - Madelaine West, nine, and Kyd, six.

I got hold of advance copies of episodes 1 and 2 of the new season of Californication on the weekend bloody hilarious! Of coarse their will be people "offended" by it left right and centre

Meh. The content was fairly tame (in comparison to what we've seen in earlier seasons), however the rape fantasy storyline will undoubtably be heavily censored once the episode airs on Channel Ten. ::)

Anywho, I'm just happy to see the wonderful Pamela Adlon on the box. And Kathleen Turner is an absolute hoot. It saddens me though that her arthritis has taken such a toll on her. :(

I think the dinner party might be heavily cut down as well, so to the "not gay but kind of gay" conversation between Charlie and Hank that Hank later reworked as his own!
