I did try to start a similar thread but found the title was too narrow so I thought that a broader topic would be more appropriate.

I like to go touring whenever I can.  Some trips are short and others longer, and some overnight in my swag or in the back of the car . I recently purchased a second-hand subi outback, which I adore - previously it was a clapped out commodore, which I abused.

I would be interested to see where other members go for their “Sunday” drives and perhaps give me some ideas and post some photos.  We could even exchange motoring tips especially when it comes to touring and camping etc.

Below are two photos from near the Great Divide outside Brisbane between Moggerah Dam and Queen Mary Falls – In one of them you can see the range in the distance.   The contrast is very noticeable and they are only 15 minutes apart.

The old Army barrack style building is very charming and I could see myself living there with great pleasure, alas I don’t.

This one was this weekend.  It's along Pike Creek Road off Bolivia in Northern New England NSW.  I come this way often and always make a point of stopping for a cupper here.  If you get the right mindset and you can enjoy the world as if you own it.

Today's trip was along Paddy's Flat Road between Tabulam and Urbanville in Northern NSW.  This time I was on a mission looking for camping spots for Easter.  The main views are of the upper reaches of the Clarence River, another old house and Paddy’s Flat Road.  I've not known this river not to flow, a trickle sometimes but always flowing.

There are several private camping areas with toilet and shower facilities as well as free public sites with no facilities along the upper Clarence.

You have some great photos Tramp I like some of those old country homesteads and its good to get away I recently did a camping trip from Darwin to Broome, not in cyclone season, and it was fantastic, 1 hot shower in 10 days, but we did swim every day.

Not many photos turn out okay.  I only have a compact digital camera which is prone to camera shake, so most of them are deleted.  I like to take photos of old abandoned/dilapidated buildings as they are now part of the landscape and are slowly being reclaimed by the environment.

"  prone to camera shake" to many red wines around the fire late at night will do that, the good thing about late at night is that you really dont know how much you have had untill the next morning.(stars)

Next to the town of Bingara, North East Inland NSW, there is a hill.  It's on occassions like this you must have a lot of faith in your brakes and gear-box.

WOW ! looks great

I prefer to go inland for my drives.  Inland there are many places to stop for a cuppa and be very quiet without an overload of tourists.  Costal is nice, but there are just too many people and litter and it's very hard to get any privacy.  

Around Stanthorpe & Killarney.  The waterfall/slide is known as Undercliff Falls and the second Waterfall is Queen Mary Falls.  The Rainforest is near Queen Mary Falls, and an old house in the area.

now see I like those kind of holidays, as I deal with the public I like to get away and not see or talk to anyone unless I want to, but I also like other holidays, I'm off to the US soon, just a short trip for 10 days, do you camp or sleep in theback of the car ?

I sleep in the back when I realise I’m too far from home and it's getting dark.  Driving in the dark is ordinarily no problem, but I’m usually a long way off highways and the roads I travel tend to be infested with roos after dark.  I drive home occasionally after dark when I really need to be home, but I don’t like to push my luck.  Even then I travel at about 80k.

Lucky you, off to the US.  Is there room in your Bogey-board bag for a slightly overweight, middle aged gent.

north keppel island

they are old but ye

North Keppel Dara ? OMG I  worked on Great Keppel (for about 2 years) and have had a few visits to North Keppel in my tinny, good snokeling, is it still untouched ? (smitten)

Yeah I went there on like an environmental/bio camp thing and it was only like 25 of us , and like 6 workers .. they had enivronmentally friendly everything , very few building, NO rubbish. it was so peaceful and nice. and coconuts evrrywhere! we hiked around the whole island and we went snorkelling twice. the coral is kind of dying but its still good , we went halfway to great keppel kind of , then snorklled there

sounds good, I think that there was a few privat cottages there, but the rest is for everyone, like a national park

Yeah there are a few buildings where the staff live in, as well as buildings for the guests.
