It’s hard to tell if Rove is still funny. A lot of the time his shows are a disappointment and far from funny, others however are good. Personally I think Rove has "lost it" since his new studio makeover. So is Rove still funny?
Posted by: ElBarto, June 8, 2006, 8:35pm; Reply: 1
he's as funny as his writing staff. Not forgetting his sheer wit (pause for uncomfortable silence) but he's a nice bloke though don't you think :
Posted by: frankenbok, June 8, 2006, 8:45pm; Reply: 2
I think his nice and geniune but not funny
Posted by: fajo, June 8, 2006, 8:57pm; Reply: 3
I still find him funny somewhat but not as much as before.

Some of the stuff he does is just downright lame.

And that drummer bit is getting mighty old and unfunny.

I think he's getting a bit stale....but hey each to his own.
Posted by: aquamonkey, June 8, 2006, 9:29pm; Reply: 5
NOPE! I don't think I've watched him since 2004, unless I hear about someone interesting being on (rare)
Posted by: Paula, June 8, 2006, 10:19pm; Reply: 6
I've never considered him funny.  He's just someone who does interviews.
Posted by: Vecordious, June 9, 2006, 8:11am; Reply: 7

I think he's funny when he's not trying to be. Take this week's show with Chris Isaak. Mind you, Chris himself was hilarious.  Rove's comedic skills shine more when situations are impromptu. His 'staged' gags aren't funny at all.

Whereas Peter Hellyer is very funny, and I think they finally realise that, and Peter is always featured on the promos. Nobody is watching Rove just for Rove anymore, and luckily he does get some good guests on there. I can take it or leave it these days, whereas once I would always watch it.

Pete is definately funny and I agree Rove is funnier when he isn't trying so hard. Corinne was the least funny of the lot so losing her shouldn't make too much difference. Maybe if Hughsy became a semi-regular..

Rove is not as funny as he used to be, I sorta wish it stayed the same. Some parts are still funny though, and deserves a few more viewers than it has now. If it is cancelled, what will replace it?

I think so too. Kinda like the Ellen DeGeneres show. Most of the staged jokes are not funny at all but when she's herself she is funny. I stopped watching Rove after the first year really but I still don't mind it and would occasionally watch it if I caught it.

With the exception of this weeks show, which didn't go well, I think he's been pretty funny recently.
Doesn't really matter if Peter is funnier or not, if he had his own show it would be a differant gig altogther and only then perhaps it could be gauged after we got used to him and were more clear about his predictability.  We don't see Peter in front of the camera for the majority of the time, just for a bit here and there and he's a good enhancement to the show.

One bad show is just one bad show anyway.  Some people have been comparing Rove and Letterman.  Letterman has had entire bad years here and there.

I still think Rove is funny, but I don't Rove Live every week...usually only when really interesting celebrities are on, which is most of the time anyway.

I've been watching Letterman since '93 when nine first aired  it and I don't really think he's had a bad year as such. He went through a lean patch after the infamous 'uma/oprah' affair at the oscars but even then he was entertaining. And strangely around that time the late show started a run of about five consecutive wins at the emmys for best talk show.

Yes she is funny and she does does her show every day were as rove only does his once a week, you would think he could do a better job seeing its a week to prepare. Ellen DeGeneres does such a good job with her jokes and she is funny in herself aswell which makes it go a lot better!!

Ellen I actually find quite boring. I don't know why, but she just doesn't interest me :|

He's been pretty bad every time leading up to him changing networks.  I haven't watched as much as you... but I've been watching since 88 or 89 and through a lengthy writers' strike.

Anyhow, things get cancelled in just a few episodes in Australia.  It's retarded... it should be rented out to a smaller network instead I think, especially when it's that easy with Australian programming  (I would think).

I believe ROve is an embarassment, I dont watch his show, but the adds are bad enough, he is a hopeless interviewer.

Sure, he isn't as good as he used to be, but I wouldn't call him an embarassment.

Rove might be a nice guy but he just isnt funny, peter hellier steals the show

perhaps corrine jumped from a sinking ship

the show is old and tired and as for roves interview style it totally sucks,
they hardly ever get any decent guests on and if they do its mostly by satelite and its made worse by rove sucking up

I watched last night on the strength of someones comment last week that it was really funny but he wasn't this week.  I guess it really depends on the guests too - Jennifer Aniston was as dull as dishwater but Chris Issak was great.  Still, better Rove than having no night shows at all.

Well, I'll go out on the limb here and say YES I think Rove is hialrious. I watch it every single week not for the guests, but for the actual show itself.

Same here, there are a few laughs in there every week, but I do often watch it for the guests as well.

New title for Rove Live..... Larry Emdur  Live. I think that he made the show great on tuesday.

Rove was very funny last night, deserves the high ratings.

He has his moments every now and again I think. The show is not as consistent as the first few years. I think the show still deserves to go on and I'm guessing its probably a little more dependant on the BB and Idol fans to tune in more then ever. alot of avid fans I know are now casual viewers and we don't usually anticipate it unless someone we really like is appearing or if we happen to catch it when flicking through channels.

I used to watch Rove a lot when it first came on air but i cannot stand the show these days. He isnt funny any more, the sight gags and silly faces have gone stale and he seems so far up himself its embarrasing.
Posted by: music313, October 19, 2006, 1:32pm; Reply: 33
^^ Indeed.

The show deserves the ratings it gets. I only watch the show when theres a decent guest on..which is hardly ever.

Can't stand him. And even when there's a guest on the show that I'd like to see, the questions that Rove asks are so cliche, I just don't bother anymore.
Posted by: Seriously, October 22, 2006, 1:08pm; Reply: 35
^ Same, except he hasn't had any good guests on for ages, the last time I watched a full show was when he had all the BB HM'S on, even that episode was crap. Since then I normally watch a little of the show but get bored and tune out.

TEN should have not re-newed the contract for next year, and instead went with the Kyle and Jackie O (Rove Live type) show that was mentioned in Zoo magazine last week. Kyle and Jackie have a great chemistry on air, and are hilarious at times (plus Jackie isn't a bad bit of eye-candy). I think that this show would appeal to a wider audience to.

Well put anniea. Very down to earth and I don't think his ego is oversized.
Today he must be feeling very very sad and unfunny given that his soul mate and wife has passed away.  :( :'( Bless Rove and he and Belinda's families and friends.

Ego often conjures up negative thoughts.  Rove probably does have a big ego, but it's not necessarily a "dirty word"  (sorry for the pun  ::))

Very true Paula... and you know you meant the pun...hahahahahah!
I think in the context above ego was used in a derogatory way whereas the Dictionary says:

I wonder how his show will do now? Will the network and the general public feel sorry for him and let his show continue, even though it may not be any good? He coulnd't call it quits surely, entertainment is what he does. If a doctor looses his wife, he eventually returns to work.

I think Rove's ratings will skyrocket when/if it premieres in 2007, but I'm guessing that the whole sympathy vote will die off eventually.

greenbottle, bottomly, standforth and dr pym.

mr snootals the care taker.

Oh my goodness, I hated that show, Daisymay.
I think Rove is a very talented guy and had some fresh ideas for a TV show. I like Rove, maybe he isn't the funniest bloke in Australia but I cannot stand Peter Hellier, he definitely is NOT funny, or Russel whatsisname.
Rove is a sweet man and he was devoted to Belinda. They went through a hell of a lot together and I know that Rove's current 'love' was a friend of theirs and Belinda told Rove to move on quickly after she passed away. I think his show has filled a gap in Australian TV and is fun to watch. Better by far than the final years of Hey Hey it's Saturday!  ::) ??)

i NEVER mentioned hey hey its saturday i said yes what which was a RADIO show in 1935-1940.  i have never liked rove and i don't think he is funny at all! with the hey hey show i did like dickie knee and ozzie ostrich. google yes what and you will know what i am talking about. :)

I never said you mentioned Hey Hey DM. That was my comment.  ::) I was making a post, only part of it was in regard to your post.  :-/ I hated 'YES WHAT!' Their voices were so grating. Greenbottle was always in trouble. Yes, it was a radio serial show and yes I used to listen to it because it was played before the mid day news that my mother listened to on ABC radio I think. Drove me crazy. We used to listen to ‘Blue Hills’ also, which I loved.

Cool show Rove i guess when a show that has been around for as long as Rove it gets people get a bit tired of it.Personally i think he still does a great job and watch it every week.Always good to watch when the overseas guests are on as there is no other program that does this anymore eg.Hey Hey It's Saturday
