eBlah! / Suggestion Box / We have over 6800 members on this forum
Posted by: SuziH, March 31, 2006, 7:38pm
I think it is wonderful that we now have over 6000 members. Having so many members I would love to see more input from our regular (even irregular) forum users. Some fresh ideas and thoughts and opinions would only add to this great site. Variety is the spice of life, the saying goes, and I bet we have a massive variety of users with just as many varied ideas. I am looking forward to reading lots of new posts from lots of new people. :)

Noting the 1000+ members, how about a check on new members or members with 0 posts who haven't posted in a certain time (say a week or maybe a month) then they will be deleted?
Same for those with only a few posts who have been inactive for a certain time (say 2 months or so)?

Mine is 6 right now but I haven't hit the site every day recently and then it's just a quick run through.
People are going to come and go and come back again. I don't reckon the stated concern applies to you or me (I think).
Also, remember that it's not a competition... unless you happen to be winning at the moment lol.

To the people in charge....ever thought of advertising the website, like, on TV perhaps?
I'm sure you'd get a whole heap of people interested. I found this website by luck and I'm really glad I did but there's probably a lot of people who are interested in TV in Australia.

What??? Do you know how much advertising costs? This forum earns barely any money, and you want them to pay for a $1000+ ad on TV? That's crazy...

Norman may be Barney Rubble because he is short and Norman is always complaining he is short. Devman has really got me worried with that buck teeth thing happening but Gizmo.... Gizmo's has got me perplexed and bewildered because...... I didn't know she knew how to ballet dance or that she had blonde hair! :D Suzi is well depicted tho as far as running around pulling out her hair! ;) ::)

Devman is the 'peek-a-boo' moderator.
Norman is the 'High-Tech' guy . . so he should laugh at the Barney method of using bare feet as brakes on his car.
Paula . . well , the giraffe was her fav animation months ago . . so she gets it.
Suzi . . what happens when double threads are posted.
And as for me . . the blonde hair is not true . . the ballet is only a fantasy . . but the hairy legs, well . . . :B :P

lollllll too true. :)
I wouldn't be surprised. Recently, my school kept harrassing me after I graduated to get some of my videos off YouTube. Gosh, what losers. And my videos have little to no bearing on their so-called reputation anyway. *rolls eyes*
Posted by: 80 (Guest), December 29, 2006, 4:04pm; Reply: 41
I don't know what was removed, but usually what happens is that a server alerts the user that it's serving bandwidth to a place that isn't on the list or part of the website it's set up for.
How your school found your videos is pretty lame though. Did you have to take them down, did they threaten legal action, did you tell em to get bent? How did it play out?

One of them did and I was absolutely appalled. I was appalled that they waited until AFTER I graduated for them to ask me to take it down because those videos have been on the internet for almost 2 years now.
The teacher that called pretty much threatened me with legal action as he was "embarrassed" for appearing in one of my videos and having it posted online. I didn't believe him because it was a music video, and he played the *ONLY* dignified person in the video. The rest of the students in the video were dancing stupidly, and would have every reason in the world to be embarrassed, but they haven't complained only because it gives them something to talk about lol (Or so I'd assume).
One video was taken down mainly because I played a homosexual character. Yes. Our school is not only sexist and plagued with unqualified teachers, it's homophobic to boot. Disgraceful, it really is. They complained about the video because it allegedly depicts the school in a negative way, which it DOESN'T. It's basically a spoof of Australian Idol using people from my school and I played one of the judges.
Frankly, the only legal action I would be afraid of is for using copyrighted music in my movies, but I've credited the artists although that may not be enough.

Same as me, Suzi, I was just checking the TV guide within a couple of days of the new Eblah starting up, it was just a huge coincidence really as I had never been on a forum before.
I used to play scrabble on Wordox and have a few friends on ICQ, thats all...........

I loved that forum. I think we're talking about the same one... It was the first time I even knew what a message forum was and was probably the case for a number of other people, and although it was annoying to be unable to do anything about the real trolls, it sort of kicked arse anyway because a large percentage of the forum would gang up on them and it created a sense of comradery even for those that weren't interested in taking up verbal arms. It felt to me like it was "our" forum, and not some... blank space provided by anonymous people and looked after by... an annoying special interest group. You can't even find that place on internet archive now.
I never understood why it was taken down. It had real potential to... well for example the dating site that is affiliated with this forum now probably could have helped pay the bandwidth bills.
Edit: Those first two screenshots are from the original one Dara. Thanks for finding it. Now I can copy the url out poke around :)

Posted by: MeanDean, November 19, 2008, 6:51pm; Reply: 79
We were given notice that the forum was closing down and that a differant one was opening. I don't remember why. I remember that it was written by an ebroadcast employee so presumably Glen, and that it didn't have images other than smileys (I think) so I guessing they weren't able to afford their bandwidth bill... that and a legal thing I had read about people running mythtv boxes (linux based tivo type devices before we had tivo here) scraping info from ebroadcast and it causing a bandwith bill problem, or bandwidth theft if that's what it was called.. I don't remember now. I think the other one in one of your screenshots was the forum that was between the first eblah forum and this one.
Supprisingly, I read about the legal stuff while trying to find an Australian TV guide feed for a drop down applet on my panel (taskbar). There wasn't anything at the time because people had to srape off a site that was filled in manually. I should look into that agian. Anyway, getting further and further from your question, those users scraping the ebroadcast guide should have just had a central server do a scrape every 6 hours and then everyone gets it from the same server in text format. People probably didn't really set things up right or the scripts distributed checked for new info at an aggressive rate.
