According to his biography, he has not appeared on the Letterman show.

Jungle jack is my father's favourite person.  We cannot work out whether he is a brilliant comedic actor, who also happens to be an animal expert & running his zoo, or really as stupid as he comes across.

I like to think the former.

I know what you mean.

he does come across as a dufus sometimes but he knows his animals & he never fails to crack me up,kind of an american croc hunter

i love it when dave always asks him to bring out one at a time, and of course jack always does the opposite  :)

& always hands Letterman some innocuous looking animal, which he commences to play with, before telling him that it has deadly spines or will savage his fingers to the stump if it becomes scared.

Steve Irwin is legitimately hyperactive & is not anywhere near Jungle Jack

The kookaburra cracked me up ,dave didn't know what the hell it was and it wouldn't shut up.

Looking forward to bruce willis & ricky who are always hilarious

But ,really with letterman it's the little comedy bits that i always look forward to ,like 'will it float' ,used to love ape or artist but they dropped it.

Rosie O'Donnell will never guest star on David Letterman's talk show, because she hates the host's producer. The A League Of Their Own actress, who had her own talk show from 1996 until 2002, offered to stand in for Letterman when he underwent emergency quintuple bypass surgery in January 2000. However, her generous offer was met with a bad response from Letterman's producer Rob Burnett. O'Donnell says, "When he had his heart attack, I was on the phone with Les Moonves because I was hosting something for CBS and I said, 'Hey, is he okay? I'm sorry. If they need anyone, let me know.' Now he's unconscious in the hospital and his producer Rob calls me up. I'm all friendly and worried and he was like, 'Who are you to try and steal Dave's job? You're not a friend of the Letterman show.' (I won't appear on the show and) it's not 'cause of Dave. It's this other guy, Rob, that I don't enjoy, frankly."

I am with Rob on this one.  It was a very stressful time for all of the staff, because they are like a giant family & the last thing you want is someone trying to push in whilst you are worrying about a loved one.

They asked people to guest host, the people did not ask them.

Rosie O'Donnell is just completely up herself

Lot's of people won't go on Letterman and I'm pretty sure there's people Letterman isn't going to book.  It's not a new thing.

I think a single thread on Letterman is warranted next time there's another topic involving the show itself.  Or the two existing threads could have just as well been "TV gossip" and "Talk show guests."  That way there isn't a new thread for guests of every single talk show and a thread for every gossip... there already is a celebrity gossip thread actually.
Posted by: SuziH, February 28, 2006, 12:50pm; Reply: 12
I think this subject could have been posted into the Celebrity thread or just started with the topic being The Letterman Show. It would have a longer life span on the boards and would not be one of those threads that have just a couple of replies then clutters up the space on the boards. Before beginning a new thread think of a heading/subject line that is going to appeal and have a longer life by making it more general. By starting new threads, willynilly, the boards are made more disorderly and more difficult to search.

My favourite parts involve Rupert.  Most of the time he is unaware of what's really going on.  If you remember a few years back when David used to sit in a van with radio gear & send a wired Rupert into places to follow his instructions.

They had to stop after a guy snapped & was about to stab Rupert.

Yeah ,ruperts great, and i remember when they used to do that, ive basically been watching since it started on nine,in '93

it was cool whe they gave him his own giant poster,in recognition of all the stuff he's had to put up with from dave!

I have a distinct feeling about Mr. Letterman.  That he's extremely loyal the people that do not let him down.  Many times Rupert has well and truly shell and that he is a member of the late show family, by going the extra couple of yards.  I think that David would reward that loyalty.  Look what he's doing with Stephanie at the moment.  Remember when she used to come out dressed in a cowgirl outfit as he would read the letters?

A friend of mine was visiting New York a couple of weeks ago & she has brought me back a bunch of merchandise from the late show & the hello deli.  I have my own late show coffee cup.  Perfect for a tasty beverage.

It's too small though.  I'de get a t-shirt but I already have an American accent so it might make me look like... sort of like wearing a "Harbor Bridge Sydney Australia" t-shirt while walking around Sydney.

Actor Bruce Willis poked fun at d**k Cheney's recent shooting accident by appearing on The Late Show With David Letterman made-up like the US vice president's hunting victim Harry Whittington. The actor had tiny wounds on the left side of his face, resembling a spray of buckshot holes and when he smiled he revealed one tiny hole in his front tooth where he was allegedly hit by the ammunition. Willis joked, "I got shot." He then lifted his hat to reveal his semi-bald head covered in band-aids, adding, "Shot all my hair off." The Die Hard actor went on to explain, "I was playing cards with some politician guys, sitting around drinking all night. After a bottle and half of Jack Daniels, somebody came up with the idea, 'Let's go hunting.' It seemed like such a good idea at the time... I'm thinking we're going to go out and hunt rhino or moose, (but we hunt) quail. But it's all really a blur to me."

From http://www.imdb.com

he always comes up with something special for his appearances.  I actually enjoyed the beginning of the show when David preferred to Paul Schaffer as Bruce Willis by mistake in the introduction

I sort of thought that Bruce Willis seemed pretty drunk.  He was entertaining but it was a little unsettling to wonder just why he appeared so smashed.

Bruce Willis always come prepared with something.  I love the fact that David has know clue before hand.  When Bruce was talking about drinking with a couple of his politician friends & then gunning hunting, hence the entire right side of his face covered in shotgun pellets, Mr. Letterman was losing it. "They will fester out"

Methinks David is having some fun, with the Howard Stern interview.  What with the lawsuit occurring between CBS's parent company & Mr. Stern.  I'm thinking Les Moonves wouldn't be terribly excited to see Mr. Stern gracing his network.

American shock jock Howard Stern blasted former employer, CBS/Infinity chairman Les Moonves, during an appearance on talk show host David Letterman's show, calling him a "jerk" and a "bully." Stern appeared on Late Show With David Letterman wearing a T-shirt with a glamorous picture of Moonves and his wife, US Big Brother host Julie Chen on the front, and announced "I'm on the 'I Hate Les Moonves Tour.'" The radio host is being sued for $500 million, for allegedly breaching his contract with US broadcasting giant CBS. Moonves insists Stern failed to disclose the details of his new deal with Sirius Satellite Radio, while still working for Infinity. Stern told Letterman, "I believe you are working for one of the biggest jerks on the planet. You've worked for jerks and bullies who hide behind their press agents. Les Moonves is a bully." Referring to Moonves' past acting jobs, Stern quipped, "CBS took a C-list actor from the Love Boat and made him CEO." Stern's appearance on the show, which airs on CBS, was scheduled before the lawsuit was filed against him. CBS has issued as statement regarding Stern's appearance saying, "We believe his appearance was his desperate attempt to distract attention from the facts of the case."

Not really sure if Mr. Letterman will be making an appearance on Monday because of the following

Rookie driver killed in crash on Florida trackAssociated PressHOMESTEAD, Fla. - Paul Dana was an up-and-coming rookie driver living his dream, a former motor sports journalist who was hours away yesterday from beginning his most promising season yet.
Then, before the green flag flew, something went terribly, inexplicably wrong.
While streaking around the Homestead-Miami Speedway oval during a warm-up session for the Toyota Indy 300, Dana failed to notice that another car had spun to a stop, and slammed into it at close to 200 m.p.h. Two hours after his shattered car came to a rest, Dana, 30, was pronounced dead at a hospital.
"Obviously, this is a very black day for us," team owner Bobby Rahal said. "This is a great tragedy."
Dana believed he had finally gotten his big break in the months before the season-opening IRL IndyCar Series race here. He had secured a ride with the elite Rahal Letterman Racing team - which fields IRL phenom Danica Patrick and Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice.

sad for dave as he is passionate about and proud of his racing team

US chat show host David Letterman has paid tribute to Indy Racing driver Paul Dana after the 30-year-old was killed during a pre-race rally in Florida on Sunday. Dana, who was part of the TV star's team Rahal Letterman, drove into a disabled car at high speed and was killed shortly after. In a statement, stunned Letterman says, "Paul Dana's passing is a tragedy and I want to express my condolences and sympathies to his family and friends. We are deeply saddened by his passing at such a young age."

It was another example of Mr. Letterman coming through in the time when a true gentleman is able to step up & speak for those that cannot.  He did exactly the same thing in his first show back after the world trade center attack.  He is truly a scholar and a gentleman.

The bird flu stuff was hilarious but considering some of the things he's done in the past for dave it was pretty tame. Loved the look on ruperts face when dave was telling him what he wanted him to do ;D

Would love to see some of daves old pals back like mujiburo & sirijul (bad spelling I know!)

& how funny was it the other evening when for some reason Barbara had a little desk within reach of David?  He kept pretending she was his daughter

Barbara is still not as cool as Mary

That was amusing..it was like the kiddies table at xmas.

Im loving the great presidential speach bits..dubya really stacks up well against the likes of jfk  ;D

I was a little let down by shatners interview..im a huge trekker and would have liked a mention or two of the show that he is most associated with..im sure he probably said beforehand that he didn't want to talk about star trek..only his mangy nags. even just a little bit about how he saw the future of trek would have made me happy.

Shatner talking about Star Trek has kind of had its day... although I thought Letterman did pay him several comments, after all he was the object of ridicule for a long long time...

He really did want to speak about those horses, didn't he

I am only a recent convert to being a fan of the Shatner, because of Denny Crane ... I was never impressed when he would mock himself in movies

On the Star Trek season 1 dvd set we got an entire featurette dedicated to his bloody nags >:(

How unlikeable was Mary Cheney?

I thought being gay she might have deviated from the family politics but she's as right wing as the best of 'em.

Dave didn't really get much co-operation and joked at the end about having his phone tapped for real after making jokes about it earlier.

But he deserves it,he's one of a few celebs who refuse to appear on letterman. He clearly has a problem with dave.

It's great when they do the old 'reasons they won't appear on the late show' bit.

Bruce Willis

They're just a couple of people that are loyal to David & will not appear on the Tonight Show

Where as you have several people that are also loyal to the Tonight Show

I can remember Brad Pitt appearing on Conan O'Brien on the very night of the friends finale... it was then I knew the dream marriage was over ;) ... Brad Pitt refuses to appear on any shows after a bad experience on Leno, apparently

All the guests last week were great though I haven't watched the one with Robert Duvall as yet. One exception was Lindsay Lohan who seemed to irritate Dave but I could be wrong. Sandra Bullock was cool and her new movie looks very interesting. Tim Russert and even Paris were also entertaining.

This weeks guests look especially interesting including as you noted the loopy and always fun Amy Sedaris.

Looking forward also to Brandon Routh & Al Gore.

David Letterman rerun featured jokes about Ken Lay

By MIKE McDANIEL
Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle

A great comedian needs good material and good timing. Wednesday night's rerun of The Late Show With David Letterman may have had one but lacked the other: The repeat included jokes about Ken Lay who died Wednesday of a heart attack.

The Late Show, which is dark this week, selected reruns well in advance of their airing. A call to Worldwide Pants, producer of the show, was not returned by press time Thursday.

Susan McEldoon, Channel 11 vice president and station manager, issued an apology.

"We apologize to our viewers for the unfortunate timing of the CBS rebroadcast," she said. "Channel 11 was unaware of the content of the show at the time of the broadcast and has expressed our concern to CBS."

Today Warren Buffett announced he's giving away his multibillion-dollar fortune to charity rather than leaving it to his kids. He said he doesn't believe that somebody's son should inherit his father's "position in society." Today, President Bush immediately put him under surveillance.

The New York Knicks coach Larry Brown has been fired. Larry knew he was in trouble when team president Isiah Thomas told him, "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job."

David Letterman

Well, I have to tell you some bad news: crime in New York City is out of control right now. Crime is out of control. To give you an idea how bad it is, earlier today, the Statue of Liberty had both hands up.

But that program to track terrorists' money was working. That's the sad thing. As a matter of fact, last month, we switched Osama bin Laden to a lower-interest checking account.

Conan O'Brien

This week, President Bush urged the Senate to give him line-item veto power. Later the president said that line-item veto power would be nice, but what he really wants is X-ray vision.

This week, Washington, D.C., received a foot of rain and part of the I.R.S. building was flooded. The bad news? Part of the I.R.S. building was NOT flooded.

David Letterman: “It is so hot today, that Al Gore has a new movie, ‘An Inconvenient Rash.’”

David Letterman: “It was so hot today, President Bush met with European leaders just for the chilly reception.”

Conan O’Brien: “Earlier today in the world cup, this is the latest. Mexico lost to Portugal, but still advanced to the second round. Yeah, they still advanced to the second round, yeah. Actually Mexico snuck into the second round through a hole in the fence.”

Although famously low-key off-camera, Letterman is one of late night television's biggest stars. "Late Night With David Letterman" earned him $40 million this year, more than rival Jay Leno. (Letterman owns a stake in the show.) This year he had Oprah Winfrey as a guest. The two publicly patched up a long-standing rift. And earlier this year he scooped the world when Britney Spears appeared on his program to announce her pregnancy. Letterman's production company, Worldwide Pants, is responsible for hit shows like "Everybody Loves Raymond," which just ended its nine-year run.

Earnings estimates are for June 2005 to June 2006. Figures rounded off where appropriate. Exact figures available on Forbes.com. Includes dollars earned solely from entertainment income. Management, agent and attorney fees have not been deducted. Estimates by forbes; sources include Billboard, Pollstar, Adams Media Research, Nielsen SoundScan and Nielsen BookScan. Rankings are generated by combining earnings with other metrics: Web mentions on Google press clips compiled by LexisNexis; TV/radio mentions by Factiva; and number of times a celebrity's face appeared on the cover of 26 major consumer magazines.

t's Jay Leno vs. David Letterman

It's seems that neither late-night talk show host has been dominating television, although Jay Leno seems to have the upper hand over David Letterman. See full image

As his tut-tutting chat with the mean girl of the moment showed, Jay Leno is a terrible interviewer.

It doesn't matter. Leno flubbed his conversation with the right-wing polemicist Ann Coulter last Wednesday, but somehow, the middlebrow, sometimes downright mealy mouthed star of "The Tonight Show" on NBC is turning out to be the cool late-night host. That's mainly because CBS's David Letterman, who was the Jon Stewart of his day, now seems resigned to a staid second place.

Leno, who will be replaced by Conan O'Brien in 2009, can afford to slack off, but it is Letterman who seems to be taking too many of his shows pass/fail. And it's a shame, because the host of CBS's "Late Show" is the comedian intellectually and temperamentally most suited to taking on the conservative enfant terrible and giving her a much-deserved public swat.

Leno has higher ratings. He averages 5.8 million viewers a night, while Letterman draws about 4.3 million, and that explains why the more desirable guests -- Al Gore, Jennifer Aniston or Simon Cowell -- usually choose to appear first on "The Tonight Show." But Leno, the comedian who was chosen by NBC over Letterman in 1993 for his Rotarian likability and mainstream comic style, suddenly seems to be the sharper host. These days, his monologues often have more range and political bite than Letterman's, or maybe it is just that on too many nights, Letterman seems unamused by his own jokes.

Last Wednesday, for example, Letterman made a crack about Coulter that was more hostile than witty. (Citing an item about a New Zealand sex show involving live bulls and a simulated cow, he added, "Good to see Ann Coulter getting some work.") Leno had a funnier conceit about his guest in Tuesday night's monologue, saying that the controversial Coulter required heightened airspace security because her supporters were "worried Dorothy's house could land on her."

Leno's inability to engage his ferocious guest in a less-scripted give-and-take made for an unmemorable television event. Mostly it was notable that at the height of the furor over Coulter's malevolent remarks about Sept 11. widows ("I've never seen people enjoying their husbands' deaths so much.") viewers had to turn to "The Tonight Show" to see a professional comic try to match wits with her.

Letterman is far more experienced and deft at tangling with ideological divas. He humorously, but acidly, put the Fox News commentator Bill O'Reilly in his place in January, and he handled Howard Stern just as smoothly in March. But authors on book tours usually prefer the safer waters and higher ratings of "The Tonight Show." So did Coulter, whose noisy diatribes against the Sept. 11 widows helped put her latest book, "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," at the top of the New York Times best-sellers list.

Coulter strutted onto the stage in a slinky black cocktail dress and a bellicose mood: Rush Limbette. But Leno, who seemed embarrassed by the fuss, tried to reason with Coulter and appeal to her better nature.

On Wednesday, she defended her comments about the widows by saying that they, such as Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist whose son died in Iraq, unfairly promote a liberal political agenda while hiding behind their inviolate status as victims.

The comedian George Carlin, famous for his iconoclastic irreverence and eagerness to speak up, sat alongside Coulter and didn't make a peep. Leno didn't score a point.

Over on CBS, Letterman chatted amiably but meanderingly with Stephen Colbert of Comedy Central, looking oddly sidelined from the week's media fracas. At his best, nobody is more subversively funny or more appealing than the host of "Late Show," but it's been a while since he put his best efforts on air.

Is NASCAR next for Patrick?
By Ed Hinton
The Orlando Sentinel
Danica Patrick's contract expires with the IRL's Rahal-Letterman Racing team at the end of this season.
MARY ALTAFFER - ASSOCIATED PRESS PHOTO
Danica Patrick's contract expires with the IRL's Rahal-Letterman Racing team at the end of this season.

JOLIET, Ill. (MCT) - Danica Patrick could become the next star driver to defect from another major racing series to NASCAR.

"I'm trying to get her here (into NASCAR)," said T.J. Patrick, father of the woman who dazzled the motor racing world last year by nearly winning the Indianapolis 500, but has struggled with a mediocre Indy Racing League car ever since.

T.J. Patrick, who has managed his daughter's career since her childhood, was at Chicagoland Speedway on Sunday, holding exploratory talks with some Nextel Cup teams and sponsors about the possibility of Danica leaving the IRL for NASCAR as early as next year

Her contract expires with the IRL's Rahal-Letterman Racing team, co-owned by TV comic David Letterman, at the end of this season. In addition to considering NASCAR, the Patricks are negotiating with other IRL teams - and appear unlikely to renew with Rahal-Letterman next year.

Bobby Rahal, co-owner of Rahal Letterman racing, declined comment through a spokesperson.

The Patrick family is from Roscoe, Ill., but Danica, 24, now lives in Phoenix with her husband and wasn't at Sunday's USG Sheetrock 400 NASCAR race.

T.J. and Danica's mother, Bev, came to the Joliet track because "we've had some inquiries" from NASCAR teams, T.J. said.

Young American open-wheel drivers have been steering steadily away from IndyCars and into NASCAR for the past decade_from Jeff Gordon to Tony Stewart to Ryan Newman to Kasey Kahne.

They come for much more money, fame, what they consider more intense competition, and the sheer volume of racing.

The Patricks were in the Nextel Cup garage area as guests of the powerful Roush Racing team, which fields Fords for Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Matt Kenseth, Jamie McMurray and Mark Martin.

There have been other women in NASCAR.

Janet Guthrie, also an Indy-Car pioneer, was the first, competing in 33 Winston Cup races between 1976 and 1980 with five top-10 finishes.

Patty Moise of Jacksonville raced in the Busch Series in the 1980s.

Shawna Robinson ran a limited Winston Cup schedule in the late 1990s. And Erin Crocker is a promising developmental driver who currently competes in the Craftsman Truck Series.

Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie are set to publicly end their two-year-old feud as guests of US chat show king David Letterman. The beloved TV host has offered to play peacekeeper after inviting The Simple Life stars to appear together on his The Late Show program in September. The two former pals fell out amid reports Richie aired a private viewing of Hilton's controversial sex tape. Both girls have refused to go into detail about their bust-up, with Hilton repeatedly telling journalists, "She knows what she did." Hilton and Richie agreed to team up on TV again for the third season of reality show The Simple Life - but refused to work together onscreen.

I was a little wrong in my previous post I think. I think 9 may be showing dave on sun/mon nights at least as quizmania isn't on. But I really miss seeing dave tue-sat at 12.30 or so.

I just heard on the radio, from the weekly television critic's segment, that very soon The Sopranos will be moving to after midnight on Monday nights because of the abysmal ratings

Ever since survivor started, channel 9 here has been showing repeats on Monday nights(Tuesday night's episode here) because of the latest castaway making an appearance

Rupert wAs probably on one of their appearance/episodes

I wound up downloading last week's Monday night episode because of the appearance of Borat.  There was no survivor cast away, yet channel 9 still played a repeat here

Good question regarding the move... answers, people?

Check this television guide associated with this web page for your state's Letterman fix

Personally, the highlight this week will be the reuniting of David with Richard Simmons... it's been six years since the infamous turkey suit incident & David having him thrown off the show, Richard having heart palpitations & needing paramedics to take him to hospital

Is it just me or has Helen Hunt had massive cosmetic surgery?? I remember noticing it last time she was on but she looked worse this time. And her hair looked awful,so unnatural.

Agree about Richard Simmons, though personally I think he's a total w***er. I always cringed when he was on in the past and I'm surprised Dave would have him back after he had him in a headlock!

And dammit I didn't see the episode with Jungle Jack! I've seen everyone so can only assume 9 still haven't aired it.

Complete agreement with the first statement... especially after David has recurring neck problem after breaking it in that automobile accident in Germany... there are signs up for the guests to read just before they enter the wall way, to remind them not to touch his neck.  Especially not to grab him in any forceful way.

That was the reason he, David, lost his temper originally & sprayed Richard with verbal abuse & a fire extinguisher

...

The Jack Hanna appearance was not broadcast, so I downloaded it... if you want, you know where to find me... it's positively hilarious, with jungle Jack bringing in the largest animal in the world of a particular species & scaring David & Paul beyond belief... only then to scare himself until he squealed like a small schoolgirl

It depends on which personality of Howard's he is bringing... if he is trying to be crude & shocking, like his radio show, the program seems to run dead as Dave is not interested

If he behaves himself like a normal adult, they have some thoroughly interesting conversations... like about satellite radio & CBS suing him

That's what I cannot figure & no one is able to adequately explain as of yet

Why does CBS seem to have some shows packaged together for certain networks?  It's not the only American channel that is affiliated with one of our channels, yet lets some of its other programs on other networks...

Please explain somebody
Posted by: sillygostly, January 11, 2007, 12:01pm; Reply: 153
I'm guessing that CBS funds these shows themselves rather than the network that plays them and so they ultimately decide which networks get which shows (I'm sure that Letterman and Dr. Phil would be relatively low-budget programs so they can afford to fund them).

For instance, Ten would most likely buy The O.C. from Fox since they fund the show themselves, although WB produces the show.

the program it self would be inexpensive to produce, except I read where David gets paid just under $40 million per year as a base salary without extras... plus considering worldwide pants produces it

Your CSI programs and the like cost several million dollars per episode

If I understand your question correctly, it is because not all the shows on CBS are made by CBS. Shows such as "Ghost Whisperer" and "Criminal Minds" are made/produced by ABC's Touchstone Television, which is why Seven has the rights. It is the same for all the US networks.

so what you are saying is that private companies produce the programs then sell them to networks in the US, after this the private companies can sell them on to other networks in other countries?

If that is so, why are networks here affiliated with networks in the U. S.?  If it is the private companies that have the power to control the shows placement

Not exactly, "Ghost Whisperer" and "Criminal Minds" are co-produced with CBS, but distributed by Touchstone. A show starts with a network, but sometimes a rival production company can be used to produce or distribute the series. This is quite common.

Australian networks aren't really affiliated with US networks. Australian networks are affiliated with production companies and distributors.

An example of this is how Nine got "ER" form NBC and "The OC" from FOX, because of their deal with Warner Bros. Television Production, Inc.

The past three nights "The Late Show with David Letterman", airing on Network Ten since January 1st this year, has been missing from the program guides on NineMSN, Yahoo!7 TV Guide and The Australian TV Guide [yourtv.com.au].   :-/
There's been NO posts on this thread this year til now, a full dozen days into the new year.   :o
Things like this only happen in the USA with a very major storm.   :(
Even after the collapse of the WTC, there may have been a 24 hour lapse.   ??)
The lapse was accepted in stride, programming recovered & no excuses. :X
Whose job is it to check a television schedule for media publication? :B
Why is it so frequently wrong? :B
Why do networks, sponsors & viewers allow such shabbiness? :(
Does it not indicate complete carelessness? ??)

because I don't bother posting information about repeats & I forgot this week because I had a dental emergency

Things like this only happen in the USA with a very major storm.   :( what kind of storm?  Like, the perfect storm?  Or maybe the storm character from the X-Men?

Even after the collapse of the WTC, there may have been a 24 hour lapse.   ??) Letterman was one of the first programs to address the attack from its production, based in New York City, certainly more than 24 hours after

The lapse was accepted in stride, programming recovered & no excuses. :X not really sure about this one... except I was annoyed that the Sopranos was preempted so I could watch a couple of buildings collapse

Whose job is it to check a television schedule for media publication? :B let's have another crack at the sentence shall we?  Do you mean check for errors?  Or check when a program is on?

Why is it so frequently wrong? :B it's so frequently wrong, the television guide, because of a multitude of reasons... typographical error, printing error, human mistake, programs being preempted, other programs overrunning, censorship(thinking of Mr. Packer removing that program halfway through)

Why do networks, sponsors & viewers allow such shabbiness? :( & exactly how would you fix it?  Reinstitute corporal punishment?  If the program runs five minutes over, five licks of the stick? Thank you Mr. Milo, for making me a better boy.  May I have another? (Sorry, had a flashback to my school years)

Does it not indicate complete carelessness? ??) complete carelessness?  Certainly are the glass half empty type of person, are we?

It's not as if there's a storm or terrorists.  Or is it?

Whose job is it to check a television schedule forPRIOR TO media publication?  let's have another crack at the sentence shall we? Okay Do you mean check for errors? Yeah. Or check when a program is on? Yeah. [note: I LOVE questions as answers to questions (like warts)!  For an example, National Geo doesn't do sci fi movies like 'The Core' yet it's in the 'yourTV.com' schedule!  At 1025 last night I'm trying to learn if Letterman will be shown with some 'confidence' as two other sources failed to display a correct schedule.]

Just when I think Ten have made the DUMBEST programming move ever they keep outdoing themselves. They played the same episode TWICE in the same night. I wasn't surprised, but it's highly stupid on Ten's part.

I'm really curious now as to how both airings would have rated last night.

Yeah probably not the best move by 10, but I think they had no choice as they are showing the current episodes which is something that 9 never did.

I know that they wanted to cash in on the Bindi hype, but once was probably enough.

Couldn't they at least play something else, or better yet, a slightly older episode?

what do you mean " they had no choice as they're showing the current episodes which is something that nine never did "?

Channel 9 would often take an important interview from Letterman & put it in a current affair... they did it with Russell Crowe & the telephone throwing apology

yes is sad what happened, But she is not the only child to have lost a father/mother, and do we need to see everthing she does?, Im also concerned about the home schooling she gets , when does she mix with kids her own age ? she is always surounded by adults,

I'm glad I wasn't the only one a little put off. IMO her enthusiasm can sometimes come across a little overbearing and annoying.  Give her credit though, she has a very positive attitude. Hopefully she doesn't get on everyone's nerves too much too quickly.

What Australia watched, Thursday
17 LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN SPECIAL Ten 724,000.

As I said, she's just a kid and 99% of kids tend to get (as you said) overbearing when they're in the spotlight. Probably due to the fact that children are more easily overwhelmed by all the attention.

Attention makes me feel nervous and overwhelmed, and I tend to shiver and I don't know what to say. :P I'm sure others feel the same lol.

EDIT: The ratings weren't that bad considering the lack of advertising. How'd the 11.30pm repeat rate? :P

what? I must have seen about a hundred adverts for it! to the point where I changed the station when one came on.  ;)

I did watch it though. I quite like letterman. Shame we had to sit through 45 mins of other stuff to see the "bindi special" though. I've heard of Tina Fey but I dont think I've seen anything she has done. The letters from prisoners was hilarious though.

And guys? remember bindi is only eight or nine years old, she'd be an attention seeker to begin with, but she has the whole world watching her, so of course she is going to be all "ooh attention! time to show off!"

After six years of being in Australia, it was a surprise to see the interview with Tina Fey...nearly fugotaboud SNL...she was [is?] a writer & co anchor for 'Saturday Night Live's "Weedend Update", [like 'CNNNNI'  & precursor to 'Not Necessarily The News' another very popular weekly skit comedy with featured musical guests, never shown here.  Careers of Chevy Chase, Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, the Late Chris Farley, Rob Schneider, David Spade & even Eddie Murphy were launched from SNL!
There shouldn't be any disappointment with Bindee, perhaps the disappointment should be directed with Australian TV hyping it up & doubling the expectations of the viewers.  I've NEVER seen an ad for "The Late Show with David Letterman", ever!  A friend alerted us of the change to TEN from a newspaper article [so last century] in December.  We're STILL looking for an ad for "The Late Show With David Letterman!"  Southern Cross TEN has yet to push anything other than "Neighbors"  :'(

Tina is also a young mother, as well is being cocreator/producer/writer for the funny new television series, 30 rock

A behind the scenes satire of the Saturday Night Live program

One of two such programs currently broadcasting in the states

The other being Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, by the creator of the West Wing

Tina also wrote Mean Girls the funny little comedy film a couple of years back about school pressure & trying to fit in starring Fresh to Rehab Lindsey lohan

Jeff was ok and one of my favorite actors. Hopefully Raines will do well so we see it here.

Chris Rock on the other hand was plain racist. If that were the other way around there would have been an uproar. Everything he said had the word white in it. Now usually I'm a big fan of Chris and find him hilarious at times but this night he wasn't himself for some reason. Probably stems from the barry bonds situation.

And yes sandra oh my :P

Funnyman Adam Sandler added chat show host to his impressive resume last night when he agreed to stand in for an ailing David Letterman on TV program The Late Show. Letterman pulled out of the show at the last minute with a bout of the stomach flu and Sandler agreed to helm the late night program - and interview his Reign Over Me co-star Don Cheadle.

American actor Calvert DeForest, David Letterman's former side-kick, has died after a long illness. He was 85. DeForest enjoyed a successful career as a TV character actor, but is most famous for playing oddball Larry 'Bud' Melman on Letterman's TV talk shows from 1982 to 2002. His death in a hospital in Long Island, New York on Monday was announced on the Late Show With David Letterman last night. Letterman says in a statement, "Everyone always wondered if Calvert was an actor playing a character, but in reality he was just himself - a genuine, modest and nice man. To our staff and to our viewers, he was a beloved and valued part of our show, and we will miss him."

What's the deal with playing episodes we just saw a few weeks ago?  Surely Ten has some old eps they can throw on if they can't put the latest ones on every night.

Ten get the direct CBS feed, so everytime there's a repeat in the US, we have a repeat as well.

Right now Dave's on a short break I think.

I hate the inconsistency of US programming. They usually only play new episodes when they're complete and ready to air. They never air them week after week without having several breaks. ??)

At least us Aussies have to put up with very little of that. Although some shows have been pretty consistent, such as Jericho and The O.C.

How direct is it? Because I don't know if anybody else noticed that on Friday's show, there was an advertisement for "The Amazing Race: All Stars" just before Letterman started. It went for only a second, but it was a CBS ad, and not part of "The Late Show". Both shows are on CBS, but I thought it was a bit weird.

Looking forward to seeing fox as well...massive xfiles fan.

As for the new movie,i hope they don't make it a 'monster of the week' movie as was rumoured and keep to the alien theme.

Should have been made a long time ago though.

woohoo DD.  Been so long since I have seen him interviewed anywhere.  XF probably won't be mentioned, but we can hope.

Definately been way too long since the last XF movie.  I am being greedy but they should make one every 2 - 3 years :)  I would also like them to follow the mythology theme but all reports suggest a stand alone theme.
Posted by: Rossatron, April 11, 2007, 11:55am; Reply: 243
Yeah would have loved to have seen a series of them that follow on from each other like Trek 1/2/3/4 etc. And agree it'll probably not be based on the mythology like the first but I guess that makes commercial sense.
Posted by: shutter, April 12, 2007, 12:28am; Reply: 244
We were robbed again. No mention of any XF movie.  I know he was there to promote his new movie, but it would be great if we got something.

I was thinking exactly the same thing, just like the Trek franchise.  I think one of the main things as to why Star Trek had a loyal following was because they kept making movies.  The way we are going, XF will be remembered as a brilliant show, but will fade away into obscurity.  It will always have it's die hard fans, but it could be so much more if only they gave us a few more movies and attract new fans.

Ohh didn't he looked so different with a beard.

you cannot blame him really... they get very few precious minutes on the air & unless you are Miss Blanchet,  Letterman doesn't give you extra

He will be back to publicize the X-Files movie when it's time... I know you guys wanted some crumbs

Aloha from Port Macquarie!  8)

Just finished reviewing the available "SthnCross/NetworkTen" schedule for the next week to learn, [after reading the "Big Brother Orgy" thread from 'Terry' & 'Administrator's' warnings]    that there is NO Late Show with David Letterman scheduled  & NO Champ Car World Series scheduled!   There's an 'RPM' on the 21st but the Race isn't til the 22nd!      :o

The next BIGGEST program after "BB" is called 'Informercial'!      >:(

Tonight's Letterman may very well be the last ever seen on SthnCross/NetworkTen or even Australia wide!    :'(

Besides being 'beside' myself with  furrious outrage, >:(  it is also discovered that there is only one airing of Law & Order Criminal Intent on April 26th & NCIS & Numb3rs on the 24th!  That's it!

Suddenly, even Sandra Sully has passed the 'use by' date  & the Simpsons are replaced with fishing shows ...It's gonna take a lot more than 'Pussycat Dolls'  to  to preclude the action of also removing the '10' button from this remote.

Wonder if the Champ Car World Series Racer from Australia has any idea how he's being completely marginalized & foot noted?

Paula, how'd ya do that?  Is it expensive or will a small hammer & screwdriver work?             :-/

I agree that their schedule has become messed up.

8)Obviously, Southern Cross Ten cannot 'afford' the luxury of 'The Late Show with David Letterman'.  :(

The same holds as Prime cannot afford the 'luxury' of 'Today~Tonite'.  ??)

The inconsistant programing is routinely infuriating!   >:(

Consistant electrical power outages merely reminds us that the emphasis in this country certainly does not incorporate media ideas post 1955.    :-/

Chevy Chase Show
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chevy Chase Show was a short-lived weeknight talk show, broadcast by FOX from September 7, 1993 to October 1, 1993. It was hosted by Chevy Chase. The show was cancelled by FOX after five weeks. FOX executives said a big reason that the show was cancelled was Chevy's personality. It was well agreed that he was comedic in nature and could win over audiences, but he was not adept at taking a more serious tone, such as if the guest was noted for being outside of entertainment, such as a Nobel Prize winner.

[edit] Trivia
A short clip of the show was seen on a fourth season episode of Family Guy.
At the end of every episode as the credits were rolling, Chevy was seen practicing shooting a basketball at an onstage backstop.
The show was produced by Cornelius Productions, which has a logo of a carticure of Chevy Chase in a motley outfit dressed like a court jester juggling balls. Cornelius is Chevy Chase's real first name.
On The Simpsons clip show episode "The Simpsons 138th Episode Spectacular," one of the FOX shows Troy McClure also hosted was "Five Fabulous Weeks of The Chevy Chase Show".
Chevy himself made light of his cancellation at the 1994 Super Bowl, by redoing his Frito Lay commercial from last Super Bowl, where he sees an old lady in danger holding a bag of Doritos, where he runs out to save the bag of chips. In this commercial, the producers run on screen yelling at him to cut and say this commercial has been cancelled. Chevy takes it in stride; telling himself "Bad year, but good chips" since he has a bag of Doritos. However, the old lady swings from a rope and steals the bag away from him again.
Chevy also lampooned his cancellation on The Larry Sanders Show when he met fictional talk show host Larry Sanders in a psychiatrist's waiting room. Chevy wondered aloud why he wanted that fish aquarium to be featured so prominently on his set.

I liked watching David interviewing the Iceman... he was in complete awe.  It's very rare nowadays that you see David actually excited when speaking with a guest.  I think he had a really good show, with the build up coming from Amy.

...
After watching an episode of Man Versus Wild, you guys wait for this individual!

He is certainly different... maybe it's the programs I watch, I'm not sure, but there seems to be a lot of former SAS or special forces guys on television now.

The man accused of conspiring to kidnap David Letterman's son has escaped from prison and may be armed. Kelly A. Frank broke out of Montana State Prison in the Deer Lodge Valley with 22-year-old fellow inmate William Willcutt over the weekend, according to officials. The pair are believed to have escaped in a truck. Prison warden Mike Mahoney says, "We have intelligence that leads us to believe these guys may be armed." In 2005, Frank was accused of conspiring to kidnap the U.S. chat show host's then-infant son Harry from the Letterman ranch in Montana. After the kidnapping charge was dropped, he was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to felony theft and misdemeanor obstruction.

Liked that as well and Amy.S was a complete nutter as usual. I like the way she hangs about for the second guest, they should do that more often.

And I don't think he gets more excited then when he has the guys from that cable chopper show on.

The man accused of plotting to abduct chat show host David Letterman's son has been captured after escaping from a prison camp at the beginning of June. Kelly Frank was arrested by police yesterday morning after they spotted the convict hitching a lift by the side of a Montana highway. In 2005, Frank was accused of conspiring to kidnap the chat show host's then-infant son Harry from the Letterman ranch in Montana. After the kidnapping charge was dropped, Frank was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment after pleading guilty to felony theft and misdemeanor obstruction.

Bruce Willis always brings top-quality segments... you can tell David loves having him on the show.  Actually he usually brings a head related product, at least for the last six times.  I liked the WebCam headgear a few appearances back.

There was an extremely funny bit, completely off the cuff... when David showed the photograph of Bruce & his eldest daughter.  Bruce said she was 23 & it was a couple of seconds before David was able to compute the information and did a double take

Yes, Mr. Griffin wasn't too bad at all... there was a brilliant comedian on Conan O'Brien the same night.  He was the guy that released the" underpants go on the outside" song.

On this episode of letterman I did like guy taking the phone call at David's desk... for some reason that made me laugh

I think it was David's reaction in the background

Win television is messing around with the episodes, so we didn't have the John Travolta one.  What was the joke about Turkey buzzard?

I was really suspect on the dishwasher guy... I kept thinking he was a plant.  More than a little arrogant.

Would like to be able to see Conan, the guy is like a younger version of Dave and very funny. Dave quite often makes jokes about it and refers to Conan.

And the song Old Turkey Buzzard is the latest sound bite used when Dave throws a card through the window.

And yeah that guy taking the ph call at Dave's desk was good..he's on quite a bit as a 'plant'. some of the bits they've done with him have sounded quite credible.

yes, Dave's TV show moved into the time slot when he moved across from NBC... after Paul was fired for stealing office stationery... Dave was responsible for Tom having another chance at TV, by producing the late late show for him.  Which ran after the late show.

How funny was Jeff?  He is a true raconteur ..  imagine being his poor mother, telling every one of their friends to watch the program because her son would be on.  Then for him to battle through his childhood demons & tell the anecdote of her urinating in a cup whilst traveling in the car to save stopping

Richard Gere is an interesting individual... every time I see him I cannot help but think of that silly gerbil story

Watching him on the late show, he carries himself & has very similar mannerisms to David Duchovny... apart from the slightly different noses, they could play brothers... it's just the mannerisms are so similar, even the way they tell stories

---

I love the way David was genuinely offended about not being asked to participate in Jeff's film project after noticing Conan O'Brien & Craig Kilborn had appeared... I get the feeling that he would receive a lot of requests & simply throw them away, but he has a liking for Jeff

Agree Jeff's documentary does sound interesting.

As for Richard he is obviously very intelligent and always has a good tale to tell. The story about the dalai lama was interesting. But i get the impression he and dave don't really get along..just the way he got straight up after the interview before the ad break.

this was only his second time back since an absence a ridiculous amount of years ... way way way back when David was still on NBC ... from memory Richard took offense at something David said or the way he reacted to one of Richard's former " Strong held belief laden " diatribes (you remember when he wasn't popular because he was using his fame & antagonizing people who didn't really want to listen to what he was saying because he was choosing the wrong forum & method of delivery)

So it was only recently that he decided there was no malice & David didn't really care enough to warrant missing out on all the publicity he could generate by an appearance on his program

Apparently in the ratings in the US Leno used to have a ridiculously lead over Dave, but no one cared at CBS because the more affluent & intelligent people watch Letterman, allowing them to charge two or three times the amount for advertising... but now everyone is seeing Leno for what he is & his ratings are dropping faster than the former- tennis-player-seeking- publicity (I meant true love) 's program

Seems like all his joking around about not being invited has finally paid off with Dave finally making his first appearance on the season premiere of Oprah.  Loved it when Oprah was on Letterman and hopefully we get to see him on her show.

Yes that's been advertised for a few weeks now... remembering from the diary that David kept a couple of years back, remember he would update each night?..." Day 39... still haven't heard from Oprah"

The stupid human pricks... absolutely brilliant... now I am looking online for a blow gun

The shark swimming story from the gorgeous woman who used to be on Grey's Anatomy .. had David positively enthralled

The idea of having your own bus instead of flying... again, absolutely brilliant
you could see Whoopi holding back some much so that she wouldn't get in trouble with the censor

& even Paul's radio show heh

But without doubt... my highlight for the week... Rupert dressed up Ugly Betty, then discovering that he likes the feel of the female clothing

---

Does anyone remember an episode that must be back at least four  or five years, when Rupert went fishing & David sent a camera crew with him?

My highlight was the delightful Jen Garner and the master of the doco Ken Burns. Both great interviews.

You seem to be an intelligent young woman... why on earth would you feel any sympathy towards this vacuous piece of spoilt, publicity hungry, trash?  David finally gave her some of the treatment she deserved... the Larry King interview was nothing more than a gentle puff piece by the shell of a former great journalist, now resigned to sitting behind the desk, mollycoddling psuedo celebrities through their times of need...

I am not going to continue this rant ... suffice to say, Paris Hilton has given me more than enough ammunition to win an argument convincingly

U.S. talk show host David Letterman publicly apologized to Paris Hilton on Friday night for hurting her feelings during an infamous 2007 interview. The late-night TV presenter upset the socialite when he grilled her about her prison stint last year and refused to change the subject when Hilton begged him to. So, when Hilton agreed to return to Letterman's Late Show to promote her new film The Hottie And The Nottie, the host decided it was time to make amends. Before introducing the hotel heiress, Letterman said, "I made a fool of myself and I hurt the woman's feelings. I went too far." The host revealed Hilton was adamant she'd never appear on the show again, but he tracked her down to apologize, sent her a letter and flowers, and implored her to change her mind: "I said... let me apologize to you in person. In 26 years of being on the air, I have offended thousands of people... but Paris, God bless her, has the backbone to come and be on the show." True to his word, Letterman began his chat with Hilton by apologizing for his behavior during their previous encounter, prompting his smiling guest to say, "I hope you got the whole jail thing out of your system." And the chat show host was on his best behavior, chatting to Hilton about her new film and helping her to promote her own sparkling wine, cell phone videogame and shoe, jewelry, watch, scent and clothing lines. The thrilled socialite had some kind words for the host when he asked her if she was glad to be back, stating, "You're being really well behaved so far. You're not being naughty." And, after swearing she'd return, Letterman presented Hilton with a bunch of flowers.

Jim Carrey shocked fans on David Letterman's late night talk show last Monday, when he showed up in a bathrobe and then stripped naked. The comedian performed a skit pretending he'd forgotten about the switch to daylight saving time on Saturday night, and was being massaged in his hotel, when he should have been on the show. After dashing onto the set wearing just a robe, socks and slippers, Carrey told Letterman, "I was at a spa at the hotel. I was in the middle of an incredible massage. Then Svetlana started talking about daylight saving time. I immediately went flaccid and I ran right over here." He then hid behind a chair, stripped down to nothing and got dressed in clothes handed to him by an assistant called Lance. Carrey also produced a prop gun he told the host was for scaring paparazzi photographers: "I'm not a very good shot. It's really about the paparazzi. Once you start waving that about..."

Yes, last week David was on holidays so the show was repeats

I never bother posting the guests on the repeats... would you like me to?

no, you dont need to

i always thought it was just channel ten showing repeats, it never occurred to me that it might be CBS doing it, but i suppose it makes sense if you think about it

De Niro + Pacino Have Fun With Serious Reputations
11 September 2008 6:32 PM, PDT

Al Pacino and Robert De Niro poked fun at their serious actor reputations on late night TV in America on Thursday night by confessing their love for make-up and Spider-man.

The fun-loving movie greats agreed to be part of chat show king David Letterman's The Late Show top 10 - and they took it in turn to list the reasons they love being an actor.

De Niro quipped, "It's the make-up, I like wearing the make-up," while his Heat co-star Pacino added, "I got to meet Spider-Man."

More than 3.5 million people watched David Letterman's response to Sen. John McCain's snub last week on YouTube, nearly doubling the number of viewers who watched the original show (about 4 million). A nine-minute clip from the show, in which Letterman showed McCain being made up for an interview with Katie Couric at another CBS studio down the street from his own, was uploaded by YouTube member 1970oaktree, identified in some reports as a member of the Letterman staff, even before Letterman's show, taped earlier in the day, went on the air.

Republican presidential nominee John McCain's most relentless detractor in recent weeks may not have been Democratic contender Barack Obama, but CBS's Late Show host David Letterman, who has continued to fling zingers at McCain for canceling an appearance on his show at the last minute on September 24, then turning up at the appointed time for an interview with Katie Couric just a few blocks away from Letterman's studio. McCain, who formally announced his candidacy on the Late Show on February 28, 2007 has been booked for Thursday's edition of the show, CBS said in a statement.

Thanks man.  I'm pissed off at myself because I kept thinking to check the thread but forgot, also was going to record Thursday and Friday but I forgot.  I guess I'll find it on youtube or elsewhere.  I was hoping to see McCain look stupid but from the article in the US election thread it sounds like he didn't falter too badly.
GO OBAMA!
If obama doesn't win then the elections are forever fixed in the US and we can all stop caring about them.

not necessarily... I was watching a couple of people discuss this topic on the other night & apparently there was a hugely popular presidential candidate back in the 70s to early 80s that everyone thought would sweep into office, so the majority of people became lackadaisical about voting thinking everyone else would vote this person in easily... apparently he lost

I like watching when Jay Leno goes onto the street & speaks to the average person in North America & it makes you feel so much better about your own country

I wish I Jay Leno was on free to air. I used to love when he'd do stuff like that.  He must spend entire days just to get 2 minutes worth of material but its always funny as hell.

Sadly am not so sure... it seems that a lot of North American seem to be too proud of their ignorance... the general population's geography knowledge is extremely woeful

I used to be a huge Leno fan but don't have the time to watch him these days. Try and catch Letterman most nights though if there is a guest or segment I am interested in.

Jay Leno is like that sleazy uncle, compared to David Letterman... & he loves telling the same stories about himself, being arrested for vagrancy & having the car he and his wife first made love in etc
Posted by: Rossatron, October 20, 2008, 2:22pm; Reply: 392
Leno irritates me. It was a crime that Letterman didn't get TTS after Johnny retired. Still we got TLS so it aint that bad & Dave perhaps gets more freedom at CBS then he did at NBC.

Have you seen the Late Show Wars television movie?  Puts an interesting perspective on the whole scenario, especially with Johnny wanting David...

=====================

I think the Senator did himself a world of good by telling the truth when he sat down with David... didn't mind the rest of the interview

John McCain's appearance on CBS's Late Show With David Letterman Thursday produced the show's biggest audience in almost three years. According to Nielsen figures, it drew 6.53 million viewers, beating NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, which attracted 4.57 million.

Saw it awhile ago and it's very interesting. I also remember Dave grumbling about how it portrayed him as a fruit loop.

with red hair, throwing baseball after baseball at an archery target...

What is really interesting is when one of the people from the movie come on his show to publicise another movie or TV program, you can see the underlying tension

Definitely watching tonight.  I have to see how Colbert gets on with Letterman.  And I noticed the slight dig at McCain (because of the cancelled visit).  He must have cancelled pretty late for Dave to keep going on about it.

Be interesting to see the Letterman/O'Brien battle results

Jungle Jack was excellent entertainment as usual. I was in stitches when Dave was trying to throw the grapes to the monkey.

Well at least he had the round things to turn up later (though I missed most of that one).  I am guessing that the DAYS you show are US dates as Katie was on last night.  You would think that of all the time he's been on people would know what he's like.  She looked quite uncomfortable at times and they weren't even talking about her (Palin questions).

I certainly think Letterman has the better interviews now.  Leno is turning in to JUST an info mercial and then guests bugger off.

I will say it again... Jay Leno comes across as your sleazy uncle

, constantly reverting to the cheapness of sexual innuendo whereas Letterman is more interested in the person & getting them to reveal and talk about interesting things... all of the ratings surveys have proven that Letterman's audience is of a higher calibre both intellectually and affluently

Jungle Jack... when David told him the children's joke about eating kangaroo & he was in stitches laughing

Jays shows is great, always watch it.Can't understand the previous comments,With Dave it's a different story i still don't mind watching the show but he,seems to get a bit confussed these days. With the questions he asks at times are just weird,or he would repeat the same sort of question five times,in a different sort of way.The episode i caught with the aussies on was strange with Nicole it started off well. Then Dave asked some weird questions which totally confused Nicole not evening knowing what to say, then she lost it after that. But saying that maybe that was Daves plan but he does it all the time now in the past he was a better interviewer.Be interesting to see how conan goes when he takes over,he will do a great job i think

I'm with morgan, leno blows. Conan will be great though,IMO the second best tonight show host after Dave...as I've said before the right order should have been Johnny-Dave-Conan on TTS

And Dave's questions were fine, they just went over Nicole's bleached head or she was being too defensive.

I'm not to sure about that Dave, seems to lose track where is is sometimes or who is interviewing.I like the show but not as much as i used to.Do you have Foxtel at all so you can check out Jays show.As well as great ratings for Jay's show as usual he has great guests, not according to one previous poster.Without even picking out certain shows for example tonight They had Heidi Klum, followed by young star all the girls went crazy for in Robert Pattison currently in the number 1 movie screening, and thoses two guests did'nt disappear either after the interview,as most nights, then followed by Seal.Tomorrow nights show is Daniel Craig,Kevin Smith,And Black Kids not bad at all
8) Someone mentioned about Jays monologue how they enjoy it.I always have a bit of a laugh, and they always run about 10 minutes long not bad at all.Jay rules and so will Conan(Keep cool my babies keep cool) :D

......

Firstly, the question is to NK were fine... she didn't even understand about the Paul Hogan shrimp on the Barbie advertisements & Crocodile Dundee being a great enticement to visitors... she kept thinking he was trying to compare the two movies & suggest they were in a similar vein

-------------

You watch Leno tonight... every second anecdote is innuendo ladden, some of the women are noticeably uncomfortable

If my favourite 6 foot four redhead is able to dialback the level just slightly, I think he will make a great host of the Tonight Show... he is very similar to a young David... I miss the outings David used to do outside the studio... remember when he nearly had Rupert stabbed to death?

What confused N.K was Dave mentioned the shrimp on the barbie and movie in the same sentence, with no mention of commecial in his words sounding like it happened in Crocodile Dundee, with Nicole saying i don't remember that.No i did'nt see the episode Rubert nearly getting shot. What will i be watching tonight Jay lol sorry wrong post ;)

I also miss Stefanie... when he used to make her dress in the cowgirl outfits & bring the pony on stage & the other times when he would call her by a different name, often suggesting that she had asked to be called by the name ie Monty

She was in the video of the Thanksgiving day meal

I think Dave certainly has the better wit.  Jay's guests seem to be just flashes and then over.  I think Dave tries to get more out of the guests than just promo for movie/book they are doing.

However, in saying that I thought the Stephen Colbert interview could have been a LOT better.

I am glad than Conan is taking over but I REALLY hope they don't try and tone him down.

So my ranking

Dave/Stephen Colbert (tie for 1st) /Tonight Show (Jon Stewart)/Conan/Jay

And Bruce is always good on Letterman.  I think he does Dave exclusively as he always on and they seem to get on so well (and I can't remember last time he was on Jay)

personally I think the Stephen & David interview was lacklustre because of the potential... you know when you have two really good teams in some sport & because both of them are so good, the game is average?

I don't know how Stephen keeps a straight face

It is interesting about Bruce... I think because Letterman gives him free rein, he is definitely exclusive

There have been a couple of exclusives to Jay Leno as well... Tom Cruise was one of them for a long time

It's common knowledge... he talks about it all the time, that he has never used one of the paycheques from the Tonight Show... Everything has gone into the bank or investments are... they have lived off his comedy earnings in Vegas

yes, they seem to be pretty much in to each other looking at the dances they did at the balls (as opposed to Bill and Hilary who were almost in different time zones walking down when they first arrived for his swearing in).

Jon tried to say that he sounded like Bush (in the context of his speech) but I'm still sure he (Obama) could pop a nuke on NY and they'd forgive him.

Remembering that Fast Willie had already been caught in a couple of clandestine affairs before he took over as commander in chief, so they had a pretty much loveless marriage by that time  ... whereas the current president, I must admit, has a mighty fine looking significant other.  Who also looks like she would not take any of that philandering rubbish & stick around.  She is more of his equal, than any previous First Ladies have been to their respective husbands.

I see they've been sponsoring something on Sunrise.  Seems Bono doesn't mind being "commercial" when he needs to be.

It seems he was very nasty about Chris during a radio interview over the weekend

I don't understand that.  Surely that would be giving more credence to Coldplay by having a go at them/Chris.

I just realised that last time U2 did a special it was with Conan.  So that's a change of networks as well.

And on a petty note, I think it's time Bono visited Shane's hairplug place.

Definitely watching this more now that Conan has departed.  Still don't know why they couldn't put this on a bit earlier though.

if you watched it very carefully, you could see it was all pretend... apparently the young Affleck brother was filming this for some sort of mock-umentary

He was far too coherent at the end when he sprung up & then started shaking hands with Dave whilst whispering in his ear

Actor-turned-rapper Joaquin Phoenix had to be restrained by a security guard at a gig in Florida - after he launched himself at a heckler in the audience.

The star - who has quit acting to pursue a hip-hop career - was playing a gig at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel in Miami on Wednesday night when the incident occurred.

Fans packed into the hotel's nightclub waited four hours until Phoenix eventually appeared on stage at 2am, mumbling the words to his songs over a backing track.

And when one man began jeering from the crowd, Phoenix jumped down from the stage to confront him, yelling, "We have a b**** in the audience. I've got $1 million in the bank, what have you got."

Phoenix was restrained by security guards and dragged away.

Audience member Jorge Lledo says, "I saw the guy screaming at Joaquin, and Joaquin just came down."

The incident was captured on camera by Phoenix's brother-in-law Casey Affleck, who is said to be filming the star's career change for a documentary.

Actor-turned-rapper Joaquin Phoenix reportedly staged a fight during a recent gig in Florida - as part of an ongoing career change prank.

The star - who claims to have quit acting to make hip-hop music - was playing a gig at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel in Miami, Florida on Wednesday night when the incident occurred.

Phoenix ended the concert early when a man began jeering from the crowd - the star jumped down to confront the heckler and had to be restrained by security guards.

But New York Post gossip column PageSix claims the brawl was premeditated, with Phoenix planning the incident with the unnamed audience member and his brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, who was filming the event for a documentary.

A source tells the publication, "(It was) completely staged. It was a fake fight. Nobody threw a punch. They were just holding onto each other."

Phoenix has previously been accused of constructing his hip-hop career as an "art project" prank. The claims have been denied by the actor's representatives.

Gwyneth Paltrow has cast doubt over her Two Lovers co-star Joaquin Phoenix's new 'music career' admitting she suspects it's a hoax.

The Gladiator star recently revealed he had quit acting to become a rapper.

He has since made a string of bizarre public appearances, including two nightclub performances, the last of which ended with an angry confrontation with a heckler, in Miami, Florida on Wednesday.

Sceptics have suggested Phoenix's hip hop endeavours are being staged as part of a prank project - and Paltrow admits she's not convinced by his claims.

The actress tells MTV, "I'm not a hundred percent sure that that's really going to be the case. I think that there might be some other explanation or something going on. I'm not quite sure what, but I can't believe that he's really going to quit forever to become a rapper. It seems odd."

How funny is it when Julia Roberts makes an appearance?  With David reminiscing about when he " was thinking about taking a run at it " & mid sentence, her ability to make him to freeze by uttering," I love you"

They obviously have such chemistry

Obviously not so difficult perhaps as people make her out to be.  I think she gave just as much as Dave was throwing at her without getting snotty or agro or upset.

may be because he treats her with the respect she deserves?  Can you imagine some of these paparazzi & sleazy journalists saying things trying to get a reaction?

You can see that David and her have a genuine respect for one another

Late-night U.S. chat show host David Letterman has secretly wed his longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko, according to news reports.

The Late Show host and Lasko exchanged vows last week, according to UsMagazine.com. The pair had been dating since 2001, and Lasko gave birth to their first child, Harry, in 2003.

Letterman, who was previously married to his college sweetheart, Michelle Cook, fell in love with Lasko while she worked as his assistant.

The couple reportedly wed at the TV star's Montana ranch in September, 2003, but those rumours proved to be untrue.

Letterman Confirms Wedding Report On His Show
23 March 2009 6:35 PM, PDT

Beloved U.S. TV host David Letterman has confirmed reports he wed longtime girlfriend Regina Lasko, while congratulating pal Bruce Willis on his weekend marriage on his hit show.

Letterman exchanged vows with the mother of his son, Harry, in a courthouse ceremony near their ranch home in Montana on Thursday, according to America's Us Weekly magazine.

And, according to fans, who were among the audience for the taping of Monday night's The Late Show with David Letterman, the host confirmed the news live.

During the show, which will air in America later tonight, Letterman apparently announced, "I hear Bruce Willis got married this weekend. There's another wedding I'd like to mention. We got married in Montana. Went to the Justice of the Peace."

Letterman also told fans the truck he, his wife and their five-year-old chose to get them to the wedding destination got stuck in the mud en route to the courthouse.

He explained he had to leave his stranded family with the vehicle and return to their house to pick up a car. He joked that he feared he would be late for his own wedding.

He told the audience, "We think, 'Well, somebody'll come... Nobody comes along. It's Thursday afternoon, who's coming along? Zorro?

"So I get out of the truck and I walk two miles back to the house... and the whole way, I'm thinking, 'See, smart a**, see, see, you try to get married, this is what happens.'"

This is Letterman's second marriage.

Another episode in the mockumentary??

Two Lovers director James Gray has hit out at the film's star Joaquin Phoenix - insisting the actor is "making a fool of himself" by launching a rap career.

Phoenix recently announced he has quit acting in order to become a hip-hop-star and has since made a string of bizarre public appearances.

Last month the actor sported a scraggly beard, hid behind sunglasses, chewed gum and gave brief answers as he promoted Two Lovers on Late Show With David Letterman.

And Gray is furious with Phoenix for failing to cooperate with the TV host - because his strange actions drew public attention away from the film.

He says, "It's like, Letterman was trying to get the movie out there, but the only thing that's out there now is a crazy person with a beard making a fool of himself!"

Internet gossips have speculated that Phoenix's turn as a rapper is a hoax, and the rumours were fuelled when it was revealed the star's brother-in-law, Casey Affleck, is filming his musical efforts for a documentary.

But Gray fears the Oscar nominee is taking his new project seriously.

He adds, "I’ve seen him in his house, and he has his own recording studio that he built right there. So if this is a hoax, then it’s the most elaborate thing that I have ever seen.

"If it is shown to be a hoax, then that's great, because Joaquin will come back to acting. And he is something special. But if it isn't, you know, I think he needs, well, help."
