The hate for Tony Abbott seems too large :S Facebook is full of groups like kill yourself if Abbott wins and stuff. The general younger population will vote for Gillard for sure.

Guess I'm not general... lol.

For future reference, I would've voted Liberal this year if Turnbull was still their leader against Gillard.

My immediate reaction to a Green in the lower house was that this is a bad day!

Have you ever noticed economics, trade, strategic alliances, etc never play a role in any of their "policy"?

Nationals to fight for Tuckey's seat

Posted Fri Oct 23, 2009 7:13pm AEDT
The Nationals candidate for the Federal seat of O'Connor Tony Crook.

The Nationals candidate for the Federal seat of O'Connor Tony Crook will try to prize the seat from long-serving Liberal member, Wilson Tuckey. (National Party)

The Nationals candidate for the Federal seat of O'Connor, Tony Crook, has resigned from the W-A Royal Flying Doctor Service to focus on his election campaign.

The high profile Kalgoorlie resident served as chairman of the R-F-D-S board for 10 years and will be replaced by Perth businessman Neville Bassett.

The O'Connor electorate will take in the Goldfields for the first time at the next election due to boundary changes and will be contested by the long-serving Liberal Member, Wilson Tuckey.

Mr Crook says his major challenge will be winning votes in the southern parts of the seat.

"Clearly it's a very big electorate and to do it justice I need to get out there and cover the ground," he said.

"I'm going to have to do a lot of work down through Albany through the Wheatbelt.

"My family name is very well known in the Wheatbelt through Merredin and that area but into the south I guess I've only got my RFDS hat to fly down there at this stage."

There was a bit of a swing away from the liberals in SA.  Kingston remained Labour, thank God, and Boothby is shaky for the Liberals.

This may be the most interesting seat to watch and see which party this new member will align with in a hung parliament as he and the WA Nationals are strongly independent of all major parties.

Hung Parliament a good outcome for regional WA
By Tony Crook, on August 17th, 2010

Tony Crook

The Nationals’ candidate for O’Connor, Tony Crook, has today outlined why a hung Parliament with a WA National holding the balance of power would be a great outcome for regional WA.

Mr Crook said the pundits were calling a very close result, with the possibility of a hung Parliament.

“If elected as an Independent WA National a hung Parliament will put The Nationals in a prime position to deliver a fair share of Federal funding for regional WA,” Mr Crook said.

“Brendon Grylls and The WA Nationals are well qualified to negotiate an exceptional deal for regional WA, should I find myself with the balance of power.

“Just look at the last State Election, everyone said The Nationals couldn’t deliver – then when the votes were counted both sides were scrambling for our support.

“Would you rather have an Independent National fighting for regional WA in the case of a hung Parliament, or Wilson Tuckey chained to his Party benches, barking extraneously while Labor negotiate a deal with the Greens or Eastern States independents and regional WA is forgotten again?”

Mr Crook said with the balance of power he could deliver more funding for infrastructure and services in regional WA.

“I would negotiate to ensure the Federal Government quarantines the same amount of money the State Government invests in Royalties for Regions each year, to be spent in regional WA.

“I would also negotiate to abolish the Minerals Resource Rent Tax – we don’t need a new tax to fund our plan, we just want some of the infrastructure funding that is currently directed into marginal seats in the Eastern States to be redirected to regional WA.”

Mr Crook said his first act in Federal Parliament would be to introduce a Private Members Bill calling for 100 per cent of WA’s GST revenue to be returned to the State.

“It would be interesting to see how Western Australian MPs from major parties would vote on this Bill, I imagine we would see their true commitment lies with their party rather than their electorate.

“Major parties have failed to deliver for regional WA, as a strong independent representative I will make sure regional WA has a seat at the Federal decision making table.”

This is a very good result for country WA

Huge swing away from the LNP in Kingston.  We southerners are smart people. Ms Rishworth is the best choice for this electorate and the reason I voted Labour.

This particular version was uploaded 2 days ago.

There are numerous versions of this scene floating about (each with their own set of subtitles), and the scene in question is actually from a 2004 German film titled "Downfall".

One week later...and Australia still doesn't have a ruling on who is going to govern.

Maybe we should have another election........or, and here is a novel idea!

why don't the people who WERE voted in, govern the country and not worry about PARTY POLITICS.....just what's best for us Australians.

As nobody has been voted in (it's a tie) I vote for another election!

It's 72 a piece, although the news says 72/73 because the 73 seats includes Tony Crook who says he is going to sit on the crossbenches.
