Can't wait..... I think it is fabulous that people are becoming more food savvy and better cooks and the fact that children are giving adults a run for the money.... is sensational.

I don't think 1 hour a week is long enough to really go in depth with these kids and the food they are cooking.

An average audience of 2.2 million Australians tuned in to watch last night’s series premiere of Junior MasterChef Australia, helping TEN to a Sunday night prime-time win in all key demographics and total people.

Throughout its timeslot, Junior MasterChef Australia easily beat 7’s The X Factor and 9’s 60 Minutes, making it Sunday’s No. 1 show in all key demographics and total people.

TEN’s chief programming officer, David Mott, said: “Just when you thought you knew what to expect from the MasterChef franchise, we’ve turned the format on its head. Junior MasterChef Australia will continue to amaze and inspire Australian foodies of all ages and abilities. Impressive culinary talents aside, these kids are just simply a delight to watch.”

“We knew there was a big appetite for all things MasterChef. But last night’s brilliant result proves that Australians haven’t had their fill just yet. Judging by these results, Junior MasterChef Australia is shaping up to be the appointment viewing destination for all Australians.”

Wow 2.2 million. As big an audience as they had in finals week, and it's only the first week. Although I'll expect it to drop to the 1.7 mark next week.

Saffy.... how is it child exploitation? Explain why that is your opinion and I will explain why I think it isn't exploiting children.

1: the children's parent/siblings are there with them
2: this (cooking) is a passion for these children
3: Child Psychologists agree is is not harmful for the children to participate in this
4: it teaches/shows children who are both participating and watching that winning is NOT everything
5: each and every contestant gets the best cookware available... not just the winner.
6: it is showing children and young adults that cooking is fun, enjoyable and at the end of it you get to eat what you have cooked

Another question.... have you watched an entire episode of this show?

The young fellow who was crying on the promo clips BTW, got through to the next round. He is just an emotional talented little boy.
These are the future great chefs of Australia and God Bless them all.

They'll be fine, they're probably very molly-coddled. Move to Belarus and then see how they go if you're worried about child exploitation And even to them it's not.

Thanks, do you really like my sig or was that sarcasm? xD

If I came over as unfriendly that was certainly NOT my intent. I just wonder why some people make statements without expressing their reasons. What I tried to do was back up my opinion and I believe I said it in a nice factual way. This IS a friendly forum. We don't have trolls, flamers, swearing or namecalling. The 4 moderator's on this forum will not tolerate such behaviour which, IMHO makes this a safe friendly forum. Cheers, Suzi

Its exploitation to the end of a television network making money by using the cute factor to make a show, however I don't think think its, thus far, exploitation to the end that we can say its putting kids in harm's way to make that money.  As for television networks using the cute factor to make a show appealing, making money by drawing an audience is what they do and its certainly better than spreading around harmful BS on the news and especially Today Tonight and A Current Affair.  I don't think a day goes by where those shows in particular aren't exploiting utter crap or smearing people for no other reason than ratings and since this can also happen on just normal news as well it seems like this sort of exploitation should be examined rather than Junior Masterchef since so far there's no viable reason to say that Junior Masterchef is detrimental.  That might change down the line but for the moment there's nothing to pick on.

I voted originally that it was exploitation based upon the commercials when they were first airing them.  I think, now, that it was a knee jerk reaction of over concern.  As always, the potential is there, but it doesn't seem any more harmful that Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader.

I have had enough of this kind of crap. I am resigning until Glen comes up with a new site/forum along the lines of MarkII was intended to be, I will not be back. So sad as I love this forum and as I have become more ill and more disabled over this past 18 months this is my only social outlet. All because a young person misunderstood what I was trying to convey I find I would be watching my P's and Q's and trying not to offend to the point of political correctness. Nothing like the joy being sucked out of something I love so much.

After further thought, the forum should be copied onto a usb drive, then deleted.  The usb stick should be taken into the desert and be strapped to explosives.

It's a bummer when someone leaves, but also not something anyone can do something about.

In the past 9 months it seems like the song contest has gone downhill into oblivion, people started gossiping all kinds of bullshit behind one another's back... and if I know that then its pretty bad because I'm the last person that would find out, nor have a I asked very much about it from the gossip devil that is Dara apart from repeating nice things people have said about her to set her straight, various people have left, a lot of people are thinking they shouldn't waste their time coming here (presumably), and a baby was both conceived and born (past 9 months).

I'm myself pretty keen to find better things.  I haven't figured out if thats diving into something online that is educational or something social, but forums kind of suck anyway.

Good luck to you Suzi, and to whoever else decides to go the way of the... I wish I had a metaphor :p

I apologized to Dara privately, however I can't really let it go completely without attempting to also express her beauty.  I'll be back soon with poetry.  For now, we all love you, Hottie, and anyone who doesn't should be transfered to a usb stick, taken out to the desert...

Suzi it'll surely be a bummer when the next song contest rolls around.  Sorry if I came off rude earlier.  I was having one of my moments.

Thank you dean for your insights. It was an emotional reaction on my part. I admit I get angry and disappointed at the lack of cohesion and support from two other Mods. But... who is saffron and why did she get so dirty when all I wanted was a clear reason why she had the opinion that it was 'child exploitation at it's worst'? I only asked the question of her because so many people flit in with a short post and then not return. In fact I and a couple of others doubt saffron, as a person, exists.
I will be staying because I received more than a few emails and PM's asking me to. Paula has admitted to having me on her block list which to me just shows the lack of support and cohesion of the four moderators. One ex member left because they were incensed that the two 'older' mods were bullying me and being nasty to me around 12 months ago. This is a young lady who was a great member and I miss her presence  very much.
So the upshot is you are stuck with me and you can like it or lump it.

I do wish all these melodramatic outbursts would stop, they are all so unnecessary, especially on the open forum. They only tend to cause unrest among the members and bad feeling on the forum.
If anyone has a grouch against me, personally or in my Mod position I wish they would do so by PM, I never have anyone on block and will listen to any complaints.

Junior MasterChef whips X Factor in ratings

The Seven Network may have spent a rumoured $25 million on bringing The X Factor back to life, but it seems adorable children and the MasterChef format are proving an unbeatable recipe.

The first of The X Factor live shows attracted only 1.095 million viewers on Sunday night - only marginally up on the 1.074 million who tuned in last week.

In the same time slot of 7:30pm, Junior MasterChef beat and scrambled the competition, reaching 1.748 million viewers to make it the most popular show of the night.

However, the ratings for Junior MasterChef are down on last week's when the series premiered to 2.2 million viewers.

For the second week in a row, the MasterChef Australia spin-off was the star attraction of a very successful night for Network Ten.

Immediately prior to Junior MasterChef, Modern Family scored 952,000 for a repeat, then 1.218 million for a new episode.

Immediately after Junior MasterChef comedy drama Offspring reached 990,000 people.

ABC1's Midsomer Murders also had a good night, attracting 1.354 million viewers.

Wow 2.2 million. As big an audience as they had in finals week, and it's only the first week. Although I'll expect it to drop to the 1.7 mark next week.

Wow good call Matt. I missed the second episode but luckily we had the series link thingy recorded on foxtel for this show and that also makes me wonder, and this probably seems like a stupid question to you but do these ratings somehow take into account the viewers that record the show and watch it at a later date? and maybe on second thought the amount of homes that do this are probably insubstantial anyway

YES...its a shame Xfactor and Junior MasterChef are on at the same time.

But then its taking a break for the Commonwealth Games

To return on October 17

And I wonder how that will effect the ratings!
