Peekaboo! It's time for the announcement of the eBlah Video Song Contest Grand Finale 2009! In this special edition of the phenomenally niche contest, those who have won at least one of the primary contests throughout the year are eligible for participation as a finalist, and are each entitled to enter one video for every contest that the have won, whereas those who haven't won or participated before may vote as jurors. As the poster indicates, the theme is Celebration, and may be interpreted in any way that our finalists see fit. You may choose a video which celebrates a cultural/religious occasion, one's life, a relationship, a triumphant feat, a political/ideological shift etc. You may submit your videos to Sillygostly by Christmas Day at the latest. Sillygostly and his subsidiary personalities shall not be held accountable if the contest is held sooner than that. The contest will kick off sometime in December with the results released by mid-late January. Due to the expected volume of entries, a voting scheme is yet to be finalised, and a compilation video will be provided to bring peace of mind to those who are bandwidth/time conscious (at the expense of my own ). |

Suit yourself. Considering the number of entries you're allowed to submit, you might as well indulge in a bit of JESC if you so wish. The ghostest with the mostest begrudingly gives you his blessing. |

I find it incredibly unfair that everyone else will have an extra few days to think about their entry before I WIN EVSC 30!!!!
Woohoo!!! I WIN!!! I'd like to thank youtube, Tesla for hosting, everyone who scored me 12 and 10, and 8, the hard work other people put into the video I ripped off and submitted for the comp, Peter Jackson, Woody Alan, George Lucas, and most importantly, I'd like to thank God. Oh yeah and my fans. I'm sorry I didn't mention it as the first thing, but the fans really are what makes my work worth doing. I love you guys. |

, incredible but true, that was one of the themes I was thinking of for the present EVSC edition. First I was thinking about Christmas but consiedered it to be too early and after that I thought "Ancient Customs" or something like that might be more interesting. I even created a logo for that theme. But I like "Celebration" even better than this inicial idea of mine and the logo is so fresh and beatiful ! I also have some ideas what to enter. I just wonder whether I should enter it right now or wait and hope to be able to do it around Christmas. But I have one more question. What happened to the idea to create a Small Finale for those who haven't qualified? Now we have two new members and it seems even more considerable to me than before. |

I don't see the point. The regular finale is going to be crowded enough as it is with most people having won at least one round so far (and Matt'd won three rounds last year so he's really not in a position to complain ). Besides, the Grand Finale has been quite inclusive as anybody is entitled to vote, and everybody has received at least some sort of cheeky mention/appearance throughout the results shows. It is very likely however, that I'll throw in a dishonourable mention segment for our "losers" during the Grand Finale show.
... Wow this is SOOOOOO much better than that awful AWFUL DREADFUL Build-up theme from last year.
How is the new theme any different, really? Build Up was implicitly about the anticipation of an event (with the theme flexible enough to accommodate musical conventions/styles), and the current theme basically revolves around the event itself. With that said, I daresay that next year's theme may already have been decided. |

I haven't decided, however, it will most likely function as it did last year... 12 10 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 This will then be followed by a whole lotta snubs. |

Thanks, guys.
By the way, feel free to PM me your all time favourite EVSC entries (be it your own or others), and give me at least 2 or 3 in case we get doubles. This is in case I decide to air a "Fan Favourites" special prior to the Grand Finale. |

I said "all time". Any EVSC video submitted to date.
A second season iTunes soundtrack containing over 150 tracks from the 2009 season of the EVSC is also coming soon. Of course, since some tracks are not licensed for sale here (or were produced independently, and thus, never released commercially), it would be impossible to include every since track in the playlist; nevertheless, I hope it will come in useful for those wanting to look back at or purchase some of their favourite songs from throughout the year. |

Okay, by Candy's request, you may submit any video of your choosing for the EVSC Fan Favourites special. They do not necessarily need to be previous EVSC entries, however I will limit non-EVSC videos to 1 per person as this special is unlikely to be viewed by anyone anyway (if last year's dismal showing was any indication ). |

Alas, the compilation and the fan favourites specials will not be available on YouTube... Reasons are simple... 1. They're too long (the compilation video will probably run for 15 minutes if we give 50 seconds of screentime to each vid) 2. Copyright restrictions (YouTube can be a b**** that way) 3. My channel desperately needs new content I will however, leave them in the On Demand section of my channel so that they can viewed at your own pace, and I will endeavour to provide the results in high definition on YouTube. |

As some people may prefer to watch the compilation video to the individual clips due to bandwidth/time constraints, I'll make sure that the individual clips are at least 40 seconds in duration so that I can provide an adequate overall representation of the person's entry. |

GRAND FINALE PROPOSAL
NOTE: Don't panic as this will not be enforced unless there is a consensus. It's merely a suggestion at this stage...
Due to the high volume of entries in the grand finale, as many as NINE videos may be given zero points under the regular scoring scheme, however, I am thinking of shaking things up a bit for the grand finale...
Under the new scoring scheme, the total number of scores that can be given (i.e. 58) will remain the same, however, it will ultimately be up to YOU to decide how many points you would like to allocate to each of the videos. This can be done to give high scores to multiple videos (so that only your favourites are given a fighting chance), or to ensure that each of the 19 videos receive at least one point (excluding any of your own entries if you happen to be competing in the grand finale). Of course, you are also more than welcome to score each of the videos based on the common standard of highest to lowest, and I'll take care of the numbers (i.e. 12, 10, 8 etc.)
HOWEVER, to ensure that this system is not exploited, a maximum of 12 points can be given to any single entry, so in theory, you may give your 12 pointers to as many as four entries if you so choose. Another condition is that you must use up all 58 points, otherwise your votes will not be accepted.
This option will be open to those who choose to take advantage of it if you guys are keen on adopting this for the grand finale. |

Sounds good to me. Plus you're the boss on it. My only concern is how you're going to enforce it, especially if some of us get confused. It sounds simple but maybe I'll screw it up.

Nobody is forcing you to adopt to the new system. You can just as easily vote the old fashioned way and those who choose to do so would be more than welcome to use the new system as long as they abide by the above conditions. Of course, if we don't end up using the new system at all, I could theoretically rank all of your videos in my bottom eight. |

Did you say JAZZ, Dara ? If so, I must admit that I am enjoyably surprised to hear that from such a young lady.
As to the voting system, I in the first place think that it is a good idea to adapt a new voting system but I don't think we should keep the ESC-style allocation of points (12p, 10 p, 8p, 7p, etc.) at the same time. If someone wants to vote "most favourite to least favourite" that's of course ok. Nevertheless we must decide on the at most number of points. |

A. A Tennis ball. |

I agree, I reckon it should be old system, or a new format, not both......I prefer to keep old... |

You guys haven't been reading the conditions properly...
Nevertheless we must decide on the at most number of points.
I've already stated that the maximum number of points that can be given to any single video will be capped at 12. However, the total number of points that can be allocated will remain the same (i.e. 12 + 10 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 + 2 + 1 = 5 8), so one can theoretically stick to the old voting format if they so choose. For instance, one may vote in this fashion... Dara #1 = 1 point Dara #2 = 4 points Dara #3 = 1 point Dara #4 = 1 point Dara #5 = 1 point Tasman #1 = 1 point Tasman #2 = 12 points Tasman #3 = 0 points Tasman #4 = 1 point Tasman #5 = 0 points Candy #1 = 5 points Candy #2 = 1 point Shawty #1 = 1 point Shawty #2 = 12 points MeanDean = 2 points LB = 1 point SuziH = 9 points Tesla = 1 point TOTAL POINTS: 58 Meh. If all goes well (and if Dara hurries the #%&@ up, I may kick off the Grand Finale this Sunday. Stay tuned... |

So if the cap is 58, then we don't have to use all 58 points? And it could look like this?

Is Tasman gone for a long time btw? It would be nice to wait for him if its possible, but I don't know if it is. |

So if the cap is 58, then we don't have to use all 58 points?
No. You MUST use all 58 points. Only the number of points you're allowed to give to a single entry will be capped at 12; so you may give a maximum of four 12 pointers with the remaining 10 points reserved for other entries, for instance.
Is Tasman gone for a long time btw? It would be nice to wait for him if its possible, but I don't know if it is.
I'm not sure. Since many of us tend to go out on holiday during this time of year, voting will be open until mid-January to accommodate everyone's holiday plans (if any), with season 3 of EVSC (wow, it's been that long ) expected to premiere in late January or early-February. |

Oh that's good with the long voting time... so jeez Dara, we're waiting. GAH!!! Yeah I still don't care what the voting system is. I'm sure you realise that you're going to have headaches with those of us who aren't careful enough to check our math properly, or that you might have to explain how it works again individually. I'd probably vote improperly and then start a private message box flame war with you just for the make up sex. |

This does look a bit restrictive actually, in the amount of points available to give to people. Can the amount be increased?... or maybe not, it would depend if any of them sucked or not. Hmm.... Maybe we should make a poll to find out if people are interested in participating in another poll to find out what we all think. lol that you know there's an Asiavision Dara. |

was there a World Idol????
Yes, there was. It was broadcast shortly after the first season of Australian Idol circa 2003-2004, with the performance show airing on a Friday night with the results following the week after, broadcast live from around 6.00am Friday morning with a primetime repeat at 7.30pm (with the latter superfluously hosted by Andrew G/James M ). As I recall, Kelly Clarkson and Guy Sebastian were both contestants on World Idol (with Kelly having sung "You Make Me Feel Like (A Natural Woman)" and Guy with "What A Wonderful World), and the winner ended up being Norwegian Idol, Kurt Nilson who was described by Dicko as having "the voice of an angel but... [looks] like a hobbit". Curiously, none of his material has been released in Australia. I don't have the figures, but it probably didn't rate well enough to justify a second instalment. |

Why? It's not as if the standard of your entries could possibly get any worse. It's not too late though. You may still change your entry (that is, if you're REALLY quick about it), but it'll be a hassle, and I probably won't be feeling too generous when I get around to voting. |

I refuse to upload anything that exceeds MA15+ on my channel, I'm afraid. So Dara will have to resort to other means if she wants her "in and out" fix that badly. Though I could include some gratuitous make-out scenes if you wish. |

I'm done editing the compilation video, so I'm hoping that I could premiere it as early tonight!
Watching the entries in their entirety will take up at least 300MB and 72 minutes of your time, so I hope that the compilation videos will give you a good taste of the overall quality of the entries (and perhaps get you to watch your favourite entries so you can make a more informed assessment). |

Okie doke. So is everyone cool with Boxing Day, then? The compilation video will run at a little under 17 minutes, with each of the 19 entries receiving 50 seconds of screentime, which I feel is plenty (except for perhaps one entry which nears the 10 minute mark, but I think I've captured the best chunk of that particular song). And I've approved all entries as being appropriate for general audiences, so feel free to bring the whole family over for a grand old time. |

The compilation video will not be posted on YouTube due to copyright concerns, plus the added fact that it exceeds YouTube's 10 minute limit. Making a shorter version would mean limiting the screentime for each clip to around 30 seconds, which isn't enough to properly showcase them IMO.
The results however, will be posted on YouTube (in HD). |

Ok after watching that... as a juror's perspective I saw a few gems in there and a few disappointments. Rather pleased I saw some Final Fantasy, yet disgusted that I saw Madonna making out with 20-something year olds. Pleased that Wham! and made it into the mix and that there was no Kool & The Gang, disappointed that some people resorted to not 1 but 2 JESC songs! My voting will take place within the next week or so when I get a moment to sit down and process it all. By the way, I'd like to have a full investigation (not really just thought I'd annoy some people) into SG rigging the contest via his choices in entry order as his entry appears last within the compilation video. As most people know there is a distinct advantage in going last in that its the main one that remains fresh in the majority of people's minds In saying that good luck to all competitors! |

It's that time again! In its second year running, the eBlah Video Song Contest has drawn to a close for another year to bring you this summer special, the 2009 Grand Finale where our past winners duke it out to see just who has the fairest music video taste of all... *bites tongue* CONDITIONS: - Anybody is entitled to vote. - Finalists may not vote for their own video(s). - You may choose to allocate your points in any way that you wish, however, you must ensure that you distribute a total of 58 points, and not give any individual video a score greater than 12. If you find that this system is too great a headache for you, you may still resort to the original system and PM me with your rankings in order of most to least favourite. - Votes are to be submitted via PM to Sillygostly. - Finalists must vote within a reasonable timeframe (suggested deadline: January 9th 2010). With all that said and done... let's get it on!!! And at last, the compilation video that packages together all 19 entries in a petite 16 bun... http://www.livestream.com/sgp/video?clipId=pla_ca7b0598-ed30-4f0a-bb8d-dc0655643a8bIf you're having any trouble viewing the full length videos on YouTube, send me a PM ASAP and I'll provide a substitute. Enjoy the show! |

disappointed that some people resorted to not 1 but 2 JESC songs!
I believe it was three.
By the way, I'd like to have a full investigation (not really just thought I'd annoy some people) into SG rigging the contest via his choices in entry order as his entry appears last within the compilation video. As most people know there is a distinct advantage in going last in that its the main one that remains fresh in the majority of people's minds
Need I remind you that I've put you in last before, Matt (and you've won that particular round, mind you) so quit your female dogging. The real reason why I put mine in last was to act as a way of commemorating Brittany Murphy. That, and I hadn't actually decided on my entry until a few days ago. I was quite careful about how I arranged everybody's clips, and I didn't want any of the transitions from one video to the next to be too disruptive.
Rather pleased I saw some Final Fantasy, yet disgusted that I saw Madonna making out with 20-something year olds.
I too didn't care for Madonna. The horny old cow making those Agnes-par gestures/faces and making out with boys young enough to be her son. *searches online* Turns out that Paul Oakenfold was in part, also responsible for writing and mixing this song. Oh, and that young thing that Madonna was making out with is her 22 year old boyfriend/toyboy. The things people do to climb the social ladder (not the most reputatble one in this case ).
but did you really have to boil me down to a heap of emmentaler cheese . . . ? ?
I was making more of an ironic statement there as I have absolutely no idea what you look like, and you haven't been around long enough for me to caricaturise you based on personality alone. I may amend the opening titles for the results presentations if it bothers you that much.
i've allready made up my mind, got just to see how to deal with the points we've got. we have 58 of them, right ?
I'm not sure that the guys have actually agreed to the more "open" voting system. We'll see how it goes for the time being. |

I don't use Windows all that much and don't have a downloader for that Suzi, but this site spits out download links for youtube and a few other sites http://www.savevid.com/You enter the youtube url and hit enter then wait a bit and it will offer one or more download links below each of differant quality and depending on what qualities are available. Funny I was thinking the same thing about Madonna while watching it, but also that although liking a number of her songs over the years, I've never liked her even when she was incredibly young and had her first hit when I was in the 8th grade. Silly can you upload Shawty's first video and give us a link, if you can. |

no worries, i can take it. I don't know what you look like either. I didn't know that Suzi's got 4 legs, though.

Well, I've allready listened to all songs and I'm almost ready to vote. Acually I decided to pick my favourites and to give them all the points I have. Therefore it would be quite helpful to know in advance which voting system is applicable. ______________________________________ Song Info: As to my entry, it is a X-mas song from Serbia, my old homeland. It is performed by a childrens's chorus (MS Sturpovi) accompanied by a range of well known singers from my country, e.g. Jelena Tomasevic who represented Serbia at the ESC 2008 in Belgrade. The Enlish song title is: "The Angels Are Singing". |

I didn't know that Suzi's got 4 legs, though.
That was based on one of Suzi's previous avatars.
I don't know what you look like either.
We can add each other on Facebook and find out.

That's fine. By all means, you may take advantage of the alternate voting scheme if that's the case.
Btw. the new compilation link doesn't work for me. Are there any changes`?
Nope. The compilation link works just fine for me. If all else fails, simply go to http://www.livestream.com/sgp/ and scroll down to access the "video library". |

Hey Suzi, what a great idea to download the songs and watch them on a LCD screen ! Could you or anyone else tell me how to do it ? And is it possible to download only the music? Probably not, I guess, because of the format. |

I use two programs for doing this, Tesla, firstly you need DVD videosoft, which is what I use to down load from Utube, then a program called DVD flick, to convert them to DVD. I must add the finished result is not good video wise as you can imagine, you are blowing up a grainy picture Utube size to 50 inch Plasma size, you can see the individual pixels...lol The audio is still good though. |

If the video is HD you should be able to download it in good quality, you just change it from .avi to whatever. You can also use Deepburner Tesla. |

I don't understand why anybody would want to watch poor quality YouTube videos bloated out on a big screen when the videos are clearly intended for online viewing. I suppose you can always contact the original uploader if you want a higher quality version of the video. |

Suzi ispired me with the download idea. As "my" X-mas is yet to come I was thinking of recording a few CDs and/or DVDs for my friends/family. It would be great if you could give me a hint where to download the MP3 versions. Meanwhile I downloaded the YouTube downloader. There it is possible to chose among several options: 1 - FLV (flash video) Normal Quality 2 - AVI video Normal Quality 3 - MP4 (compatible with iPod) High Quality 4 - AVI HD 5 - AVI full HD I chose option no 3. But I'm not quite sure whether or not it is going to work cause most of the music vids I downloaded are not in HD. Furthermore the music that I chose is all X-mas music from my country (no music hits) and I don't think that I can find those songs in MP3 format. Maybe we'd rather PM eachother cause this issue is not directly connected to the contest. Thanks everyone for support ! @ LB I wonder whether the YouTube downloader is giving the same reslults as your DVD download system ? Sorry, I'm totally unexperienced with those things. |

My little brother quite enjoyed watching last year's finale, so I asked him if he wanted to watch the latest GF (and perhaps vote as a juror). I simply asked him to place a tick next to the name of the entries that he liked so we can narrow down his rankings. At the moment, he seems quite fond of JESC and the Meet the Robinsons clip. Stay tuned. |

I'm still trying to work my way through the entries.
I chose option no 3. But I'm not quite sure whether or not it is going to work cause most of the music vids I downloaded are not in HD.
The videos are usually at a smaller aspect ratio as processed by the youtube server, or more specifically the header info that the flash player reads isn't always read correctly by other programs and depending upon what you use to play it back, you may have to manually resize it. The web page dictates the size often, so there isn't always a need for that info to be in the file. Additionally, not everything has high definition available, but everything has quicktime compatibility. My guess is that Apple paid for this to have youtube compatibility on the iPhone as they don't want to put a flash player on it but still want to have the YouTube app that's native to the software that comes with the phone. This would mean that even lower quality ones would have the .m4v option. I find that the where HD is available, the quicktime option is just as good as the higher quality, and where it is not available then its no worse than the lower quality flv files available. |

Nice recap SG, watching it now The start is cool. A slight complaint over the clip you picked for Maria Isabel in particular, but also Ralf and Princesses cuts off the talking. The other 2 are ok Oh and the other thing, putting all a persons videos together totally disadvantages well, me, with 5 videos all at the start, all to be forgotten |

Oh, that sounds good, Dara ! This option would save me some time. Meanwhile I downloaded with 'youtube downloader' and then converted the MP4 into MP3 with some other program which makes two steps. But the quality problem still remains. If I only could find the songs that I am looking for in MP3 format. But it's all rare stuff (X-mas songs from my homeland and most of them performed by a children's chorus ). |

Lol just you wait until the new year starts. I have some doozies waiting
I'll fire up the 'ignore' settings.
I'm still having trouble with Shawty's first link. Is it the same as the ones google turns up?
Odd. Works fine for me. And yes, the Google alternative is fine. |

I was going to air it on Saturday but nobody showed up (or whoever did show up refused to chat).
I'll save the favourites for the "EVSC - By Request" specials that will air in between the results presentations. |

I sent you my favs last week and was asking you whether I was still in time to do it. I haven't recieved a reply till now. So I don't know what you are exactly talking about, Silly. |

I think Silly is talking about...how nobody showed up for his 'livestream show' Well I couldn't, but I did check in later. Was reading this this morning.... "DJ sacked for pulling plug on 'boring' Queen" I can understand that but this is what interested me.... "Two words: Bor-ring," he said on air as he stopped the broadcast, before quipping "from one Queen to another..." as he put on Last Christmas by pop duo Wham, featuring openly gay singer George Michael. Thats LB's entry Addit..the poor misguided DJ got the sack over it. |

not vouchers MD..but most places now have little 'credit like card' that you can put as much money on as you want, for gift. Good to send in post too. You put the persons name on it and noone else can use it. They are good too ..because you don't have to spend all the total at one time. |

Oh, how could you ever forget about Dara's Hungarian Vampire song . . . ?! In my opinion it's one of her best entries ever, miles away from JESC. She even managed to beat MD's awsome Metallica song . . . Btw. I'm going to make an MP3 CD_R of all my this years EVSC favs to remember you guys even when I'm driving . . . |

Well, as far as I remember the so called deadline is only on January the 9th and Matt's "threatened' us with participating as a juror, hasen't he ? But I don't get why MD and Dara haven't voted yet, since they are participating regularly in the threads? @ Dara Yep, I liked your Vampire song a lot and it made it even more interesting that it was in Hungarian ! Your ESC passion after all opens your eyes for new things - respect ! Another two Dara-atypical songs will remind me of you, though: This awsome Maori singing troupe (edition: homeland) and the Pierces (edition: secrets) as well ! |

The terror that wanders the night in search of the holy kangaroo skin, so that he may sew it into a water bag and drink wine from it then chew on the leather until it is tender and ready for the ceremonial cutting into a wide string for using as a replacement fan belt for a German engineered car broken down halfway between Mildura and Mandurah (zomg) but is normally used by various people in a lineage of creepy outback British backpacker killers, has voted. @ MD Don't be sad, MD ! I was boiled down to a heap of smelling swiss cheese. I rather imagine (or is it only a whish ?) that you resembled Johnny Cash ! But hey, he/she who laughs last laughs loudest. Old proverb, Silly. Hmm . . . What might our Silly look like ? ? Like this (the guy on the left) ? Ladies & gentlemen, your suggestions, please (open discussion) !Or rather like this: . . . . . . |

WARNING: This post is all about me! ME ME ME ME ME ME ME!Right, so further to perceptions of each other and Swiss cheese and so forth, these are all recent. The oldest was in October. Its me how I look with a computer, how I look with the camera below me and doing a halfway attempt of a John Travolta still shot from Staying Alive, at the dentist with cotton between my gums and cheeks while flouride is sitting on my teeth, and sitting with my daughter which was 147 times more cuddly than the picture makes it look. Maybe in another 10 years I'll look like the guy from the awards presentation, but for now I'm just sort of... I guess the diplomatic way to say it is that my heyday has passed And now the incredible mystery is over. We can all go back to getting a good night's sleep, content that we'll die knowing this detail. Also, I may be overweight but I'm incredibly sexy and I can do things... awesome and wonderful things, but I don't do them with you, kind reader, *points and laughs hysterically* |

Oh, wow. It'd be a blatant lie to say that you've completely demystified yourself, but it's always a surreal experience seeing any of you guys "in person" for the first time. If you are in fact 38 MeanDean, it certainly doesn't show. You have a very youthful face. Care for a follow-up there, Tasman? |

My wife is South American, hence the dark skin. I think there must have been a combination of bad lighting because of where I had the furniture until more recently, and that I turned the cam off fairly quickly and I've never dyed my hair but sometimes it does look darker than other times depending upon how long its been since a haircut. Leia is 2 years 7 months.
Thanks Silly, I've always looked a lot younger than I am. I was still getting carded until I was about 30. You'd be able to see my age better if I'd posted a picture where I was smiling though. I just now realised that I hadn't used a smiling one. |

Thanks a lot for sharing your pics with us, MD ! I''ll put on some decent Metallica sound to create The authentic MD-ambiance, especially with the second pic. Leia is such a delightful roly-poly, Mickey Blue Eyes ! Since I don't have a facebook account or something like that I'll rather share pics by email. One thing I can promiss you, I don't look like an Emmentaler cheese. |

You, Dean, are exactly how I pictured you in my mind. Your wife must be very beautiful with those genes. As your daughter certainly is. I did not imagine you would have that distinguished grey in your hair. Very sexy. Love your pics and BTW

My votes have been cast. Unfortunately 2 people lost out to the multiple entries of the others and for that I am sorry. I tried to prioritise that everyone got points but either I couldn't not give points to another video or your video failed to impress me.
Good luck to all.
Team Matt has been working hard this holiday season to find some spectacular videos to impress for the 3rd season of the EVSC and we've found a few beauties! |

Lol yeah Matt realises this... what makes it even more weirder is that Matt talked about himself as a singular person then as a group and now Matt is talking about himself in the 3rd person. |

 Penalty point for Dara
Its no joke from me. I'm tired of worrying when I'll have time or making extra time when its inconveniant only to have the same people screw me again and again without any real reason for needing time apart from not caring about the disrespect that it might be to others. That includes people extending the deadlines time and time again. I'll be resubmitting my votes entirely. Tesla can submit an entry and vote from a hospital bed, Suzi can do it without a soundcard and with a dial up connection. Everyone else has managed to vote during the busiest time of the year. I think its fairly appropriate to be annoyed at this point. If you can't get it done then you should either be penalised or you shouldn't be in the comp. Not even an explanation as to why... |

When has it been extended to? My wife had previously wanted to vote as a juror. At first I asked her not to as I felt it would not be fair for her to vote in my favour since she always thinks mine are best. After your brother entered I'd thought about it again... but there was a deadline. What is the new deadline, and is it a real deadline or an imaginary "After Dara is done with JESC reruns" deadline? It isn't a small undertaking to rank all the videos and she will need to know when the real deadline is. |

MD I did send Suzi the entries on a USB when she couldn't once. Anyway I am sorry! My internet was down all afternoon/night so I could not come on! I was trying to get on til 11:30pm and it still wasn't up! Now I'm hoping it will not go down so I can send my votes in now.
Sorry!
I guess your entire re-voting has something to do with making sure you nil all my entries. |

Yep, Taz, this is perfect for me !
But is it also realizable ?
I mean, we need at least 11 players. Hopefully the new members like e.g. AuntyBev and deadloss and of couse our old members like Kosmas will keep playing. Btw. that's one of the reasons why I once upon a time suggested a "Small Finale". |

I like the idea of deadlines. I also like the idea of flexibility when its needed. I think, however, that flexibility has been abused in the past and it was enough for me to speak up this morning when I was in a bad mood. We've expressed our thoughts and feelings about it over time and I know not everyone agrees with me (just the rockin folks), but I don't think it matters because its ultimately up to the host of the contest to enforce. No one can force anyone. Common respect would be nice and the circumstances today felt frustrating because even if they are legitimate, there was still other history shaping my perspective. I'm not the best person to be speaking out for other people's feelings about it as I historically come in and out of the site for periods, but I'm glad that other people feel like I do about it.
I haven't modified my votes Dara. I did in a text editor but I hadn't submitted them and don't intend to now.
That scorewiz thing can be done so that the lowest points are given by jurors that don't exist, and that everyone would get the same amount, if it really came down to it, Tesla. I don't know if people would want to do it like that or not. It doesn't have to be a scorewiz vote, btw, and there was never a guidline about how votes should be done. The site is incredibly handy and the number of entrants liking that format anyway is probably in the majority, but that voting format was never dictated as the way it had to be done. If the competitions started getting smaller in numbers we wouldn't have to score like that.
Thanks Suzi. |

My thoughts on all these matters is that the EVSC come around too much, surely one each calendar month would be enough, then deadlines could be set with everyone knowing dates of entry and dates votes have to be in by. How does this sound
1st of Month....New EVSC topic posted 12th of month....Entries have to be in by..... 24th of Month......Results show presentation
and so on
also I reckon changes should be made by all regular entrants....not only Mods that concur.....my thoughts are as a person, not a MOD |

LB's idea sounds very good. Just to save confusion. The 'week about' wouldn't be a contest every fortnight because you'd still have to have a presentation and then the host find a theme. So it would be pretty much what LB is talking about. |

In this G.F. we have 19 entries = 19 EVSC rounds
I agree that this is a bit too much. But we should also consider that the deadlines could help us to avoid long discussions which also cost a lot of time. Perhaps we should make a rough timetable for 2010 incorporating the main holiday breaks giving us also some time 'to 'recover' and see how many rounds we concretely could realize. |

I don't agree that 19 was too much but maybe 15 would suit more people. The deadlines, no matter what is decided upon, should be adhered to, IMHO. That stops any misunderstandings and disappointments. Dean was obviously wanting to do something but was restricted by time constraints and then the deadline was changed and more time given. This subject needs to be discussed openly and with tact. IMHO |

Just so you guys know, I did vote as soon as I came on, so we're not still waiting for me! In fact, I probably didn't hold up the results at all. I mean the deadline being midnight on the 9th, I submitted votes around 10am on the 10th.. Mind you SG stays up late so maybe I did Anyway 12-15 editions is good. I'll start the next round once we have GF results |

Hey Silly, what's happening? No results - no 2009 EVSC Favourites Show - no nothing ! ? ! Are you sleeping or dead ? ? ? @ Dara Hey why don't you give us at least your theme for the next round ? That way we at least wouldn't get bored to death. |

EVSC SECRETS
* The winning entry has only received one 12 pointer to date, whereas some videos have received as many as three.
* Only TWO point separate the top two, and the remainder of the top 6 still have a strong fighting chance.
* Voting will close very soon (production on the results show will begin shortly) so make sure you spam any prospective jurors if you want a fighting chance in the contest as some of the entries are very, very close. |

I'm going through a few things right now and I'm not sure if I have the capacity to create a results show anymore (aside from a bare bones edition). For this reason, the voting "deadline" has been extended. I think it'd be safe to cut off any further votes from about Thursday night.
BTW, your wife is entitled to vote for you if she so wishes. |

We've typically had things open for jury voting Tesla. Its going to sound hypocritical coming from me, but have you considered that we've put silly in a foul mood such that he doesn't feel like doing it at the moment, after he's put a bit of work into it before, and that its better to leave it alone for now? Or that he might be having other issues going on that we don't know about? Perhaps even that we might have jumped on him today without him having been to the forum since his post about the deadline? It might be better to just drop it. I think everything's been put out there and that it isn't going to go anywhere unless we track each other down and beat each other up, and I'm too lazy to do either one. Moderators can't really do anything but edit or delete offensive posts and ban people who spam or are jerks for the sake of it beyond what can be expected from a less than healthy person and its a distraction enough to the community (ideally). A fair guideline for abrasiveness is that if you've matched MeanDean, it won't hurt to think "was that worth it?" Occasionally it is. Sometimes it just turns out to be a trade off.. feeling better for the moment at a longer term expense. Have you matched me? |

It does MD, I thought Tesla's post was you because I have never seen Tesla be that annoyed sounding before I think she outdid you MD Tesla no one will be like grabbing their friend and saying, ok vote me highest then.. whatever, that would ruin the fun so I think any jury vote will be honest. |

lol @ grabbing a friend because I have to withdraw my wife's votes now that you mention it Dara She was sort of "whatever" about the voting when I asked because she'd forgoten about it at this point, so I asked if I could vote for her. That's how Silly got a scorecard from her without me on it, because I modified my original and sent it to her desktop, but the file I kept that had my scores obviously didn't have me on it, and I forgot. Oh well.. at least I'm still keeping it clean, somehow, though. And apologies Silly, if there's other things going on and this has pushed you over, and please withdraw her scores... she didn't even do them. You thought that I faked a hospital visit though? |

Personally, I can see why silly has got upset with all this, he must have spent a lot of time sorting this results show out without a thank you for what he is doing. In the beginning he said the results show would be mid to late January so why all the impatience, its not running late yet, is it. Give the guy a break and let him do the job we know he can do. By the way, I agree with Tesla on the need for jury votes, I certainly think it should be entrants only, or at least members of this forum. This EVSC started off as a fun thing, but, boy, it dont sound like fun any more............... |

I was thinking the same thing about it becoming not fun. I don't really feel bad to have gotten upset or to have expressed it, but I feel bad that everyone feels bad and I think that we should all set a time tommorow based on GMT so that there isn't confusion, and that everyone takes their clothes off for a set amount of time at that hour. Its meant to serve as a symbolic attempt at makeup sex, and then afterward we can make a thread about it and talk about it and feel better with one another and with the competitions. I'm thinking the thread would start off with someone saying "That was a lame idea, I just sat there. Big deal." Everyone would agree, but then someone would make an observation that it helped them cool off in the hot weather, and then someone else would say something like "I just had been out of the shower and was wet and the AC was broken and stuck on as well as the ceiling fan so I was freezing." Then maybe someone would say, "I accedentally let the neighbors see me," and then there could be jokes about it, and by the time it was done we'd have forgotten what we were upset about to begin with and everything would go back to the normal low level complaining that we usually have. |

You're right, Taz ! I in general think that there is too much disucssion about deadlines at EVSC, though and this time in particular. I rarely get upset but this time I feel really irritated. There is a lack of clear information which is wasting my time. As to the external juror idea, I didn't agree with it right from the beginning for fairness reasongs but as nobody commented on it I decided to humour Silly as a host. But with his permanent 'extension' of the deadline without any clear information I started feeling more and more unconfortable for this kind of behavour in my eyes equals disrespect towards others. Why can't he simply say that he's busy with other tings or that there was more work with the hosting than he expected and ask for support ? Or is it possibly just a question of 'honour' beeing able to admit that (tipical male issue rather getting lost in time and space than asking for help) ? Furthermore I can't see why everybody is making such a big fuss about this G.F. ? At least I can't see much of a difference between an ordinary EVSC round and the G.F. so far, except maybe for the mixed voting system which might cause serious problems. Some have used the old ESC voting system, some the new one. If there are unexpected problems I'm ready to vote once more. @ MD Don't worry, MD, I am a very straight forward person and if I've got to say something to somone I do it personally. You just followed SG's suggestions. That's all and that's completely ok with me no matter what I think about the external juror issue in general. Howsoever I'll get back to the thread as soon as the results are out. Hopefully soon . If there is a problem with the examination of the votes, please let me know. As mentioned above if necessary I'm ready to vote once more. No prob. Cheers ! |

I am just sitting back watching all the to and fro. Let's just get this GF over and done with and get on with our regular 3-4 week competition, please. We are half way through January already Is it Dara's turn to host? What is the theme for the 1st EVSC of 2010? May we have that so we can be doing something that we enjoy. I personally don't think the fun has been sucked out of EVSC |

I agree with you Suzi it is interesting to see all the to and fro. Some valid points are brought up.
It's kind of hard to pressure SG though. I've done similar presentations to what he is going to be doing and it isn't as easy as the ScoreWiz. It's long and tedious and every detail must be checked and checked thoroughly. Tesla you should look back on some of the presentations SG and I have done if you don't believe us.
I know that it's been a while but we all knew that coming into the GF. Remember the longer the soup is in the pot the better it tastes... (or something like that can't remember what my mum said xD) |

Definately agree with Matt. The results presentations that silly have done in the past would be extremely time consuming....and the end result is always pretty impressive I think that some guidelines definately need to be set AND FOLLOWED in order for each round to flow more smoothly. |

Exactly Matt!! Remind me never to win a GF because there is no way I could do the presentation. I can't even do the regular hosting throughout the year. Heheheh I had to call upon a good friend on here to do it. BTW Sillygostly and Matt and all the other regular hosts... DARA.... ... I love this game most of all, don't let it fall by the wayside, please HIP HIP HOORAY, HIP HIP HOORAY, HIP HIP HOORAY AND ALL THAT |

lol Don't worry, Suzi. I like to see the Grand Finale as more of a standalone "special" that I'd like to continue hosting for as long as the contest is running as I'd like to produce at least one fancy-pants presentation per year that we can all look back on in the years to come. However, if anybody wishes to contribute to any future finales in any way (be they individual items or theme suggestions etc.) or otherwise wish to usurp my hostliness, then I'm all ears. The production process is even more tedious now thanks to HD demand. I know there has never been any specific requests for an HD presentation, but with technology and audience expectations rising as rapidly as they are, I'd like to put in the effort. The results will not go to air live this year, and I'm instead opting for a straight-to-YouTube high definition presentation. |

I hate putting it off more than anybody else, and if I had the means I would release it ASAP (and I know that I would have the capacity to do so), however, unfortunately, while Part 1 is practically finished (minus the voiceovers and the host animations, which won't take me too long to do), I haven't had any time at home alone over the past couple of weeks for me to be able to carry this off. Even if I need to drive away somewhere and perform my lines into a laptop privately in a car, I'll do it, but I hope that I don't become that desperate.
Big hugs from your ghostest with the mostest. |

First of all, I'm terribly sorry for the delay, but at last, I have some good news... The results are almost here. Parts XX and XY of the results will be released TONIGHT, and can be viewed exclusively on my channel (I'm still waiting for the videos to finish processing). They will be presented in letter-boxed 4:3 SD. The reason why I'm releasing this lower quality version is so I can bring you guys the results ASAP. Due to the large file size, the results won't be available in 16:9 HD on YouTube until tomorrow or Friday (and that is if they're not pulled off for copyright infringement). Links will be available shortly (hopefully in the next 15 minutes). |

Btw. I knew you would rip this avatar of mine, you naughty naughty boy !
It was either that or a hunk of cheese. Pick your battles.

Good eye. I think that's all of them.
Yeah, sorry 'bout that. I realised that while I was watching the completed version of the video, but I'd already spent so much time on these things that I couldn't be bothered going back and fixing it. I'll make it up to you by emailing you a personal audio apology from Agnes (and she'll also moan your name a bit to sweeten the deal ). There were also some grammatical quirks that I couldn't be bothered rectifying, but I had so much dialogue to record (and I was stuffing up so much) that after a while, I'd just given up and settled for what I had. Much of the results were pre-timed (so it would adhere to YouTube's time limit) with the dialogue added in last so I had some limitations to tend to (and that also explains some of the longer pauses throughout the results). The timing could have been a lot tighter, but I've already put this off for so long that I didn't want to waste any more time in fussing over the less significant details.
Same here Dara ahh well, patience is a virtue
That sucks. YouTube is being a b---h at the moment, and with the HD versions of the results being as large as they are (500MB each), and with the possibility of them being removed/muted for copyright infringement, I have no idea how long it's going to take to bring it to you guys as the last upload failed. |

That was a really good result show Silly. I was smiling through most of it and laughing a number of times. It was worth the wait. Thanks for doing it!

I gave everyone points and adjusted them proportionally. If every entry were to score equally. I started with each entry having "x" as the score, then as I watched them I added or subtracted, so it became either still just x (average) or x+1 or x+2, etc, or x-1 or x-2 etc. After that I took what x actually was, the average score you could give which ended up being a decimal like 4.5 or 4.25 or something, and applying it to the scores. Not everything fit for the extra points I wanted to give and points I took off, or I would have used more than the allocated points, so first was to decide which entries the decimals got removed from, and how they got applied accross the scoreboard. After that, I still had too many points used up, so from the people that had multiple entries, I voted zero for one or more of them making sure to then have a surplus of points that I could then use to further vote with, and the foremost consideration was weather I wanted those points to go more to the person's entry with multiple votes who I'd eliminated an entire song/s from, and I did for the most part feel I wanted to vote like that. Tasman got my highest votes and kept the most songs out of the players that had multiple entries, and Candy my second highest if I remember right (its fuzzy now), however the highest I scored Tasman was 7 or 8 (I think). I wish I still had my scores. I'd post them at this point as a supplement to the above, but I'm really picky about having a tidy private message box and no stray files on my computer. There's no folder called EVSC votes, and I wouldn't know where to put it Maybe Silly will post it if he, it was well laid out from the perspective of my own logic the way I sent it to him, but maybe not for his purposes. Dara might do the stats as well. Another thing I did scoring this time, which I don't usually do, was to (where I was able to) give a little more consideration to songs that I could understand why someone else really liked them, but didn't think they were incredibly great, or thought they were just average. This was the case with Tesla and Suzi (again "I think"), although I did like Suzi's song a bit... its cause I'm usually turned on by things I've never heard and like, things I haven't heard enough to know that I like or how much I like them, etc... I felt scoring was initially hard, but once I decided on the methodology of starting everything with "x" (I actually used "q"... isn't that fascinating?"), it was pretty easy and I felt content with how I shuffled the numbers around to fit my final results. Well... there goes half the day after saying I was going to just check my email, check the forums quickly, and then do something productive, but I guess I still have plenty of time. |

Have you considered dropbox<--Shamelessly contains my referral link? You can keep a dropbox folder on various machines and if they are logged into the same account then it syncs the dropbox folder from all computers over the internet (including deleting files). Not necissarily ideal for what we pay in Australia, but stuff you drag into the public subfolder, you can then get a link to share with others by downloading over http. Other folders you can download yourself over https using a login at the dropbox site, when you don't want to have everything synced to a folder on the computer you're using. Anyway, when all else fails, and fails hard, its always there and its a conveniant place to put documents you might forget to have with you. It seems like the youtube videos have proper aspect ratio but lack headers to tell a lot of players what size the video is supposed to be, as far as that goes, and they can need to be resized manually, though, as far as uploading them elsewhere goes. No pressure, just trying to get referalls so I can get up to 5 gigs of storage eventually |

Has Agnes had work done? Looking good
lmao I'm impressed. Really. I'm surprised that anybody had noticed. Agnes put on a different brand of make-up this year. Re: MadonnaI didn't completely loathe it, but being the snob that I am, I couldn't bring myself into giving it any points. I'm surprised that my brother seemed to like it though. Re: NikaYou're welcome, pooh. A better video would have gone a long way, though. Re: Maria IsabelThe excerpt included in the compilation video is my favourite bit of the song. I liked it. Didn't love it though. Re: PrincessesI'm also surprised that that ranked as low as it did. I expected it to do better. Can't remember if I'd given it any points though. Anywho, I'm glad you enjoyed it, dear. Now for the bad news... my stupid brother switched off the PC while I was uploading Part 2... (a 480MB file, of which 70%-80% of it was uploaded), so you'll need to wait until tomorrow to find out who won. Sorry folks. |

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! AHHH your brother gets Agnes as a babysitter as punishment ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!! Yeah there aren't good videos of Nika, she mainly does concerts like that Maybe people thought the Princesses weren't themed. Wow, I'm so happy you liked 'I'd rather be Dead than Plain" She won JESC in 2004 when she was only 9 Agnes is obviously more upmarket now Omg at your brother! |

zomg1 another opportunity to troll for people signing up to dropbox. I'm guessing that dropbox(warning: may contain my referral link), although not a good solution for streaming video (good for audio I've found), uses something like rsync so that resuming without errors is hassle free. That will be my last spam for it... unless I start using it to make "jokes". Seriously its the last one... and it is really good |

I feel like I'm staring At Agnes' boobs Omg SG you're making me so tense, is.. is.. IS! Ohh yay "AkinAli" 12 to Lily, he has GREAT taste! Eww Tasman #5 beat all of me That was the worst Tasman! Eww Tesla's beat me too (sorry I'm totally just talking about the entry ok!) Haha, a total of 50 points, which you know, isn't too bad... can't believe I said that with a straight face Aww not Meandean Omg Agnes' arms are slim! Ooh yeah the grand final has to be done without revealing names. Thanks SG that was really funny Well, definitely a better winner than last year, congrats! I'm not keen on that type of animation though, actually nor the song. But it is a proper video and song so that's good |

I feel like I'm staring At Agnes' boobs
My brother kept staring at the PC from behind (from a fair distance) while I was editing the show and he asked me who that naked person with the big boobs was. Thanks for your patience, guys. And I hope it was worth the wait. Until next time... |

I was at a clear disadvantage because of my PC having NO SOUND. My sound card died almost 12 months ago and watching YouTube videos has been a pain ever since. I must budget for a new sound card this month. My Grande Finale entry spoke of a time in my own life where I danced up a storm to that fabulous song. It was an anthem for the times. Mind you the Video quality of my latest EVSC entry is excellent quality... Video/10 Audio/10 (I hope) |

That really sucks, Suzi. I wish I could install your new sound card for you. Actually, I was thinking of captioning the video, but that would have been even more time consuming; and the process is rather tedious. I'll hopefully get around to doing one for our hearing and sound-card impaired viewers. |
