I was not allowed to follow my friends to the ACT or Sydney at ages 17-18 so I got engaged and was married by the time I was 19.
Remember all you young'uns, get some money behind you before you move out of home.

I left at 17 to shack up with the love-of-life at the time.

Seems guys are staying at home with the parents till a much older age nowadays  ..well into their 20's.

My uncle is 29 and still living with my grandma lol... I definately want to be independant of them by max 25. I should have gotten a decent job with a big enough savings balance.

Good for you Matt. Some people stay way too long with their parents these days. Some people stay so they can bludge. I moved back in with my folks at age 23 after my 1st marriage broke down and Mum insisted. I spent a couple of weeks with them with my daughter who was a tot then, before I raced down to the Housing Commission Office to sign up for a 2 bedroom bungalow for us. I got that within 14 months and had to beg and borrow furniture. It was the best time of my life then. I am sorry about your experience Tasman, you were very young.

Did pay "board" for a while, we own our home so no repayments need to be made, I paid it out of my Youth Allowance, but once it got halved and I started driving parents said not to worry about it cause otherwise I'd be left with about $20 a fortnight to do stuff with, which is hardly anything.
