I have a 2003 ASTRA SLX which has only done 23.500 kms. However, I try to keep up with the servicing schedule but it is getting ridiculous. I was recently told that I needed to do the 4 year, 60,000 service which costs $1200 because I should replace the timing belt (?). I will also need to replace the brake pads and rotors at some stage apparently although I have had many cars and never been heavy on brakes.

What advice can be offered regarding going to other than a Holden dealer and getting the basics done? Should I replace the brake pads now with Bendix ones  (as some-one has suggested on another site)? Do I need to worry about the timing belt?

I am travelling interstate soon and want the car to be in top condition but surely, as 23,500 kms I should not have any real worries with it.

Any advice would be appreciated.
