This starts tonight at 8pm. I might check it out. The promos don't reveal enough to tell if it's good or not.

I don't understand why the councils would be opposed to this sort of thing.  it's not costing them anything and it makes it look better. Wasn't sure if they themselves rang the council to try and build some "tension" (and that was only watching last 5 min).

Guerillas demolished by council

TEN’s Guerilla Gardeners went to air last night in which it beautified a barren parcel of land beside a Sydney railway station.

On the same day Sutherland Shire Council decided to rip up its unfinished mission at a rounabout in Jannali.

$2500 worth of plants and shrubs were ripped up as the council moved in.

The actions by the council have no doubt just given the show a priceless publicity push.

“What they did was beautiful and I would look at my windows most days at it,” said resident Belinda Rees. “We’ve only had a little over a week to enjoy it. It was the topic of conversation when they did it and there wasn’t a negative comment.

“Then, the council just comes in and rips it all up. That roundabout was an eyesore.”

A council statement last week said, “This roundabout is a complex and hazardous five-way intersection adjoining three high traffic roads and a popular service station.

“Any landscaping on this site requires careful selection of plants to ensure motorists’ visibility is not obstructed and proper traffic management during the works.

“The Guerrilla Gardeners crew failed to adequately do either.”

But creator and producer Nick Murray from Cordell Jigsaw told TV Tonight, ” I was amused by the Sutherland Shire Council’s response to our garden down there the week before last. Not only is what they say absolute rubbish, but they fail to admit how long they have left the site desolate.

“Many of the gardens we do are on abandoned blocks of public land that no one has touch for over a decade. They are covered with broken glass, weeds and used needles. The councils only complain when we install a garden and some art. Then they claim to have been just about to do something themselves! What rubbish.

“One council even claimed the work we did as their own.”

A TEN Spokesperson confirmed the unfinished roundabout episode would still go to air, hopefully incorporating this latest turn of events.

Not a show i'm getting excited about but it's o.k,what i like it's different from anything that's been done before. One doubt i did have was councils etc pulling up plants after the job has been done, what a waste

If that's the roundabout in question I can't see how the plants shown were obstructing viewing.  Some small membered councillor obviously got his hump up because he/she couldn't take credit.

the idea of fixing an ugly spot is good but you will maintain it ?, all gardens need to be kept, and maybe thats the councils problem, if it becomes over grown full of rubbish etc

Granted, but looking at photo it appears like they used low maintenance plants.  I mean homeowners pay rates etc to have councils look after things like this.  All my council seems to be interested in doing is replanting trees broken by scumbags who have nothing better to do (yet uneven footpaths etc go unmaintained).  Surely the above also improves area and makes street look better (giving higher values?

I have just had enough of businesses (incl councils) taking money for services then turn around and do nothing.

As for the actual program that was nothing noteable

I would've done the same thing as the council... don't you people drive at all?!? I hate it when I can't even see someone's indicator to tell if they're coming around the roundabout because of all the bushes. Sure they might be small when they're planted, but it doesn't take much height to block the view enough to cause disruptions.

The plants they are using are very sensible they are almost fully grown already or they already are

Not to get into an argument about roundabouts but in my area round abouts that tend to be flat get ridden over whereas if they have something in them, people actually slow down and take care (as they should).  I agree that people who don't indicate are pricks but there are wosre places that people don't indicate.

I am no tree hugger but believe the more they can do (either councils or shows like this) the better the area looks (and nod to Captn as long as it doesn't obscure views).

Yeah the idea is really good. The show could be a bit boring to watch though maybe.
But I agree with SBro
