I am looking for owners of 2001 Patrol 3L who have had engine failure. I blew a piston at 150k and hear many have had same experience.

I have just had the same experience at 163000 km; no prior warning, the car was running fine, and had travelled from Narromine to south of Goulburn, then blew; cracked piston and cylinder head.
What does Nissan say????

Hi.
I have a 2001 3L GU Patrol that blew 2 pistons at 150,000km - they tell me this is a common problem with this model!  Servicing on this vehicle was carried out every 5,000km, and was never driven hard.  The rebuild cost almost $11,000 and the vehicle now has very poor performance.  I previously had a GQ with more than 400,000 faultless kilometeres (roughly 60% offroad).  I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER NISSAN - even though I have owned nine and still have a 200SX.

I too have recently aquired 2001 st patrol 3.0ltr diesel turbo only to spend 3 weeks cleaning the thing as it was said that ex hubby done all services and that the services were up to date well was i in for a rude shock should not have taken the words of seller and asked for the documentation of the up keep as i had only driven the car to town three times (round trip of approx 25klms) when yesterday the vehicle had to be towed back home as it just stopped when i got it home there seemed to be some sort of oil slick coming from under the vehicle can anyone out there please give me some sugestions on what to look for as the vehicle had only done 200k and i have always herd that a diesel motor usualy has no trouble getting to 400-500klms with regular servicing.
