I got this idea from another forum.
The idea is to have one person as a judge for each round, and they put forth whatever the constraints to work in are, for example in the game I'm stealing from, it was desktop wallpapers specifically, and someone might say:
-It has to be 1024x768
-Have 3 elephants in it.
-Have at least one of the following:
  -A parrot
  -A cat

And there'd be a finishing date set, then whoever started that round would judge the best entry, then that entrant got to specify the constraints of the next round and judge them, and so on.

So for example, someone might say:
You have to use the following image of a flower and that's the only constraint.
They might specify more or less, differant image sizes or whatever.  Anything would be legal and entrants would be free to work within the constraints laid out.

I made a wallpaper the size of my laptop screen using the flower.  It's not the greatest, but an example.

Get the idea?  Any questions just ask.
I'll do the first one to get it started.

Deadline for this one will be Tuesday 15.

A wallpaper sized image, which size is up to you.

it has to have a lake

It has to have one of the following:
sunset
a bird
an anime or cartoon charictor

tip: use google image search in case someone hasn't reached that resource of the net http://images.google.com.au/imghp?hl=en&tab=wi

You can alter them as much or as little as you want within the constraints of what's laid out by the person who's judging the round.
For example, in this one, if you found a picture that was simply a lake with a parrot, and didn't alter it at all, it would qualify.
It might not impress the judge but it would qualify.
If you had a picture of a lake, added an anime charactor, a flute, snoop dog, and some other unrelated thing, it would also qualify.

I think it's better just to post a submission in the thread.  Some people are going to be better than others, but it's always fun to play even if
you're using paint and you suck anyway, and everyone else is good and has photoshop.  I really sucked bad at this when I started
elsewhere.  I'm still not very good, but it's an interesting way to kill time now and again.

I don't care if someone changes the title.  I wasn't really sure what to call it, and didn't want to force people into making wallpapers
since it might be better left to the person who's going to judge to dictate that sort of thing.

I forgot to mention.  The person who judges doesn't submit one.  Which kind of sucks
if your reason for entering is because you like making them, but so be it for now.
I won't be submitting one this round for that reason.

I'm really sorry guys, I got involved with other stuff and sort of forgot
Like I said before, they were all impressive.  They're all really beautiful
and all show skill in differant ways.  Given everyone selecting nice to
look at things, I liked Tasman's the best on account of it having the
Smoothest look to it.  There wasn't as much noise around the edge of the
extra thing put in.  Excellent job by everyone.
Candy, try going to layer, add alpha layer, to get the transparency...
there's probably other ways though.  Then hitting like 400 or 800% down
at the bottom to zoom in and using the eraser tool to get a smoother effect
around the edges.  You can also use the fuzzy select and colour select tools
often, then play with the slider for sensitivity, to get it to do a lot of the intial
work.  If your image was smoother I would have given you this one for sure,
but on the bright side, you get to make another one while Tasman judges and
isn't able to enter.
It would be nice if you got some better tools to work with Dara, you're a great
artist.

Over to you Tasman

That is nice maf-you.

Here's mine.
I can't give a screenshot of my desktop because there's no icons on it, the top panel moves out of the way until my mouse hits the top of the screen, and the dock at the bottom does the same, so basically the wallpaper is what it would look like on my desktop, in case it mattered.

Edit: Here's a direct link to make it easier, I'm going to scale down like maf-you did after I finish this edit
http://i29.tinypic.com/2nip5c5.jpg

Second Edit: Oh well... apparently I can't delete the post or edit out the attachment when using the edit button.  Maybe next time.

I just figured out how to delete a post.  A little late.
Mine still isn't as good scaled down.
Be nice to have a link to the full sized versions though, someone might
want to use them on their desktop.

Here's mine scaled down, for better viewing, since the thread width is
already large.
Notice the candle AND the Batman... special!
She's supposed to be glowing.  I flipped flopped Batman so his body
language didin't suggest he was afraid of the woman.
She's supposed to be glowing like an Angel.  I rotated her to be looking
more in his direction, and to be sticking her arse up a bit more in his
direction.
This has been a narration of my picture.

I don't have mine.  I deleted them.  It's pouring down rain all of a sudden here.
Sometimes simpler is better.  I don't think mine is the best.  Mine has 5 images in it in attempt to be good, but my personal favorite is one that looks like just a background and an addition to it.
It's actually better to specify a screen size so you can put them on your own desktop when you judge.  That way, since you won the previous one anyway, you also get the addition of things in your aspect ratio that you might save to use as a wallpaper at some point, or drop it in a folder if you have things set up to change them periodically without your intervention.

I'm really amazed guys, you all scare me how good you are at this!!! They really are all very impressive.

maf-you - Yours was the first up and is stunning in black and white. It's almost scary for some reason, but mostly its beautiful. Great use of the candle. Theres a real emotion there that makes you need to look at it longer than normal. Beautiful work and very classy.

MeanDean - Yours is such an imaginative take on the superhero cartoon character ...and the candle   I could see this being very popular with users in general as a screensaver. I can imagine this on a Batman website and being a very popular download. Nice clean ...and imaginative work.

kiwi - When yours was presented I realised that this was going to be a very difficult job to judge. I love the colours, the moon and especially the water which all link very well. I'm not sure how you put this all together but works very well. The mermaid tail is very well done. Overall this is the most attractive screenshot in this competition imo.

Candy - The last entry, and perhaps the most confronting due to the bold colours. The mouse is just such a stunning focal point, and the cat a nice side touch. My concern was the use of the 'optional' requirement. I decided that the cheese was perhaps around Stuart Little  , however the overall use of the mouse in the moon left no doubt of your objective. Very clean and uncluttered .....Stunning!!!

....and the winner for this round....

.....is CANDY ...congratulations to you all

Well Tasman you had a hard job judging and I liked your comments to everyone

Thank you very much. Thank you all.
The win doesn't mean as much to me as others thoughts about the pictures.
I know it doesn't mean I am am a winning artist...but I am on the way.
I enjoyed mixing the picture and looking at the other interpretations of the topic.
Not sure if there is enough interest to go another round, but if there is...
I will think of topic. Thanks again... Candy

Not to get the score I want
They take your 5 best subjects, and I got the c+ in physics, so I thought that would be the one not counted, but now.... :S
I really want 3 a's and 2 b's =D

the trick is never to give up on your self...anyway c+ sounds above average to me (the whole system is above my understanding these days).

OKAY....here is next theme (and I just realised I can't do one   as judge)

I think I might try to work with another background I also saved just for the hell of it, and post it, although this one is my actual entry... so you see Candy, may as well go ahead and post one even if it's not going to be valid... I might.  Edit: I didn't see the previous post when saying that.. but do one all the same

Here's a thumbnail:

Here's the link to the full size image.  It looks pixelated in my browser if it auto-resizes to the browser window size, please enlarge it to view it, or stick it on your desktop or whatever:
http://i27.tinypic.com/156ahae.jpg

Also, here's the pics I used to make it:

http://i31.tinypic.com/2eqcth0.gif

I used the gausian blur after resizing the little image of the woman up to the final size.

No I like the first one better.
The lion looks out of place...maybe if you had turned the picture and then put in the lion, it might fit in better with the grain???

I tried rotating the lion but it didn't work.
On your thought though, the guy is nailed up to the wall, so if it was the floor then the lion would sort of belong there.  The whole background is a bit of a wacky take on art though.  Sort of a mix of Greek mythology and Catholicism and Christianity.  The artist is Luis Royo, who does some really good stuff and some really disturbing stuff.  Sometimes it's a shame to find a picture that's really good but then it's ruined by something disturbing he did.
Anyway, he's worth a google after turning safe search filtering off, because it does filter a lot of his stuff
http://images.google.com.au/images?hl=en&q=luis+royo&btnG=Search+Images&gbv=2

I used to use a lot of his stuff for my own desktop wallpaper until a year or two ago when I finally grew up at the age of 35

I experimented with blurring the lion to match the consistancy of the rest but it didn't matter.

I will go there MD..I had similar desktop picture when first started computing ( I thought that when seeing your avatar), but I changed it when attending TAFE as it was deamed not suitable for others in class to view. Now I am interested to look at more. I had picture of fallen angel iv by Boris Vallejo, he does a lot of fantasy art...

I love Boris Vellejo and Julie Bell's art! Very erotic fantasy stuff. I know the 'fallen angel' you speak of Candy. I am not doing any imaging stuff because I do not have Paint or Photoshop nor maybe the patience to do it Love all the imaging so far though.

Oh lol Well I spent ages experimenting but then I realised that what I wanted to do would take so long, and I can't think of a way to link them together, it's more for film/animation. So I was going to do this thing with an elephant but meh. So my nets pretty slow and I'm trying to upload some stuff to test them out but it's not really working. I should stop watching friends online, takes all the bw.

what i was attempting:

Yes...thanks Tasman, thats what I was thinking. It was hard work to cover up the man then I used 'layers' to merge the zebra.

Yeah, that was the major problem I had with the first one, plus to cut them off this:

and on to the PB's was tougher than I imagined without blurring it.

I did the shadow after I added the hats and the two bears separate with layers in Photoshop 7.0.

I use to use GIMP and it has a shadowing feature in it, you can read about it here: Drop Shadow, there is an extensive

GIMP is a great program actually, easy to find info about seeing it is an open source one.

Yeah like I said just hard to get right, plus do not forget the Polar Bears are still in The Arctic, what you see is supposed to represent when the ice has melted away due to Global Warming,  so it is not necessarily as hot there as a desert, just warm enough and sunny enough to stop rain forming into snow and ice and then forming into glaciers etc.

Like here in Aust where winter is still cool, however the Country/Farm Areas still look like wastelands with rivers and dams dry, plus also keep in mind not all areas have snow in Aust even though it is Winter and we are wearing jumpers etc (though for a Polar Bear it would be warmish and they'd need a hat for the winter sun).

Judgement Day

First of all let me say all the images submitted are great and I can see a lot of improvement from the previous rounds. A lot of thought has obviously gone into developing an interesting desktop picture that is not only good to look at, but tells a story. I am not qualified to judge on the technical element…so my comments are based just on my impressions.

MeanDean was quick to submit his desktop image…..Harmony. An interesting image of female beauty floating in symphony with ‘the king of the air,’ an eagle. I like how the musical notes rise with the water bubbles. Awesome.
MeanDean also submitted another image, TAKEN, he played around with…..I personally would like to have seen this one refined.

Kiwi said she had an ideal of; ‘snake in parliament’ but finally submitted image, Memories of Long Ago. The beehive hairdo reflecting hair-dressing salons and woman of the 60’s. I liked the tile presentation, much like multiple honeycombs and how the bee’s are swarming around. Good use of colour. Visually dramatic piece of art.

Tasman’s black, white (and touch of danger), red, image stands out with its simplicity. Australia…where would you rather be? The impression of naked fear without any means of defense is frightening to us all. The text adds ambiguous humor. A well constructed portrait.

Finally the image presented by Mackay, Back in my day son…this vision tells the story of global warming. The polar bears are suitable thin and though adapted to the harsher conditions, clearly look more contented in the ‘bubble’ memory. The starkness and heat of the desert contrasts well with the cold, snow continent. Environmental problems are topical subjects at present.

The decision was very difficult, each image has its own strong points, but there has to be one winner. It was Mackay’s perfect narrative that finally won this judges favour.

CONGRATULATION Mackay, winner of Images Round 3.

Thank you all and I look forward to competing in next round, Candy

Ooooh, really thought Kiwi would win this as it took some explaining of mine, where as Kiwi's Memories of Long Ago did not, anywho next up will be something to keep it related to this site I think so:

IMAGING 4

Deadline Saturday 10th May 2000hrs. Winner announced Sunday May 11th (Mothers Day so probably late arvo).

A wallpaper sized image (may as well stay with that).

Your Favourite TV Show (or 2nd, 3rd, 4th etc favourite) is being made into a Movie.

Design a Movie Poster for that show, you can keep original cast or put in who you would like to see in the role.

For Fun it can be made by your company (ie MeanDean Productions or whatever name you choose).

Example of Movie Posters (in thumbnails so click):

I hope it is an acceptable challenge ... if not then let someone else decide who is not likely to enter (like SuziH), because I may not be around all next week due to a heavy work load anyway ... if it is okay have some fun with it.

Urgh I'm so not good at advertising posters.
Well done Mackey

My opinions on them:
Meandean- visually the most attractive and what I'd use for a desktop
Tasman- the funniest, but I'd never use it because it's too scary
Mackey- aesthetically, I don't like the updated one, but I've been using the first one you did as a desktop background actually And I like the idea, it has meaning, even though I interpreted it as humour, but the meaning I kind of think is bad, but, that's because I don't believe in human made global warming.

A good round it is too Mackay.  I like the idea although I expect mine to suck   like Dara does hers.  I don't personally see the need to go with something differant, it's a great choice and a good challenge.

My opinion on the last wallpapers:
Mine-  The best.  Mine rocked.  Mine was awesome. I'm the man.
Dara-  Hottie.
Tasman- Excellent
Mackay-  Excellent
Anyone I forgot- Excellent

I was thinking that it was a little short on time for people who don't have the extra time here and there, or who aren't familiar with the tools of their software, Candy in particular on the software.
I've been working on one nonn-stop since I last posted and not only am I not really close to finished, but it really sucks so far, so I can see why a little extra time on this particular one would be needed especially.  It really is a hard one.

Alrighty.
My only favorite shows are Boston Legal and Smallville.  I tried for Boston Legal but I couldn't find workable images, plus I kept imagining what a lame thing it would actually be if it were a movie.  Smallville I didn't do because... I forgot that I like it a lot, however I'm betting I would have turned up more already good fan art to work with, plus Superman has already been made and remade as a movie, and Smallville would never work as a movie.  With the images I wanted to work with, I ended up doing Buffy, even though I was never a fanatic, and I realize that it's sort of an old thing now... but it doesn't matter, becuase even though it's a little old and my interpretation might be blasphemy to people who are serious fanatics, my entry sucks, so it's all good.
The thumbnail looks way better than the big picture:

Yeah go for it one and all, as I said earlier I will be away most of this week with work anyway, so take the time you need as the above quote says.

Yours looks great as well MeanDean, however feel free to do more work if it is your will, seeing the time frame is being extended.

Kiwi have you tried the links for GIMP I put in (in green bold text), it is a good program and free, if Fireworks is running out perhaps that is an option?

Thanks
The original images were:
the girls, the charmed word inside another pic, the background which I cut half of it off, the demon, the triquetra.

I tried to make it smoother:

Edit- wait, the background got stuffed up somehow, I'll have to change that if I can. don't count this one.

You (and anyone), should just do whatever pleases you, in reality (yeah pun intended), it would make no difference to me at all, whether I like a show or not would and will not even come into the equation, nor should it.

Having said that I like what you have done (both of you) ... no good at advertising posters you say Kiwi, well "Something Wicca This Way Comes" tells me otherwise, cutting can be difficult especially with hair (remember it is one of the reasons I threw out the towels, I found them had to blend in like hair is).

Candy surprise yourself, after all isn't that what this is about partly, coming up with something you think you may not be able to, if it was easy where would the challenge be, isn't it a good thing to challenge yourself and see what you can do.

Also the time frame was extended by request, so if anyone wishes they can reorganise  there work, correct anything they wish, though I guess it would be fair to let Candy say that is okay as well (also I hope Tasman does one as well, so he should okay that as well I guess).

Honestly I see this as more being satisfied with what you are doing and learning more about what you can do, yes a winner will be picked, however remember that as you do more Imaging as the contest goes on, the more you will learn how to use your programs and that is winning as well in my books.

Again I think if you surprise yourself at what you can actually do, then this contest is a great thing,

It is pretty good Candy.

Also, I know that I come in on the arse end of every entry and say "Brilliant" or whatever, and it's meant to be out of blind stupidity, but it really isn't at the same time.  I really do appreciate the effort people put into their works, so although I'm intentionally being a shallow moron, it's also for a huge inability to express myself over and over in the same way without sounding redundant.  If anyone finds themself thinking that I'm shallow and insincere and offended by that, then please don't... or tell me to get screwed, I think I might handle it, maybe, and just stop if it's too much

Your's is very nice to look at Tasman.  I think you proabably did more to it than I'm able to tell which is good because it's skillful, but bad in the respect of being judged since it could look like you did less than you did... which is good because it's skillful.

I am guessing that everyone that was going to enter has entered so I will award the contest to:

Kiwi: Really liked the effort you put in, especially the catchphrase of "Something Wicca This Way Comes," it tickled my fancy (and I love my fancy being tickled).

Was close as always and I almost went for MeanDean's as my fancy was also tickled by all of us being associated with it (even if I am the Mysterious Guy).

What am I talking about, I could of picked any of the entries really, they all showed great work in what was achieved.

Sorry if this was a bit of a tough one to do, however I think you all did yourselves proud and stepped up really really well.

Good work one and all, just a pity more people do not enter this thing as we could then learn more and more from each others efforts.

Ooooh yay Thanks guys!!!!!!

Ok, the next task is.........

desktop size again

There must be snow, in some form, in some part of the picture.

You must include at least 1 of:

-tree/s
-a person, real or cartoon or whatever
-

No I changed my mind.
It is FRUIT themed!
There must be something to do with fruit in it. That is the only restriction, otherwise, do whatever you want!! ^_^

That's a good time for me as well I'm thinking.

I ran out of ideas but figured that a Vampire movie would probably have a mysterious guy in it, in case you really ended up scratching your head on it.  I wasn't impressed with it as the best title I could have come up with either

Fruit.... I have an idea to begin with for once!  Yay!  Hopefully it's workable.

Yes Tasman...I like your interpretation ...just like an art piece. Great how you have worked the word tomato down the side of your picture.

As for you picture MD...its a bit confrounting and I'm not sure I like it. I don't dislike it...but it looks like she is giving birth to 'grapes' !!

I will have to put a bit more thought into this one ... as all I have going through my head is:

"Beans, beans, the musical fruit,
The more you eat, the more you toot,
The more you toot, the better you feel,
So eat lots of beans at every meal!"

I could have Bart (Simpson) in it I guess, however basing a wallpaper around beans
and the act of flatulence may not quite be the ticket one thinks.

Candy that's a really, really good picture.  Everything fits together really nicely.  I think you ought to be really impressed with yourself with how good you've become.  If you compare that to the zebra one for example, and the zebra one was really good itself for someone just learning.  My limitations really stick out at me as a result of your stuff so far.

But that's probably me just being picky.

Yeah I was going to fill the table with fruits, then I thought I will not put any apples on the  table because of the Adam and Eve story (forbidden fruit), then I plonked the water melon and pear in, thought hmmmm it looks like Jesus has just manifested them and everyone is surprised, I thought well if Jesus was going to manifest them, it would be in a turning water into wine way.

So I figured if the table was full of fruit then it would appear he was just showing off (which he wouldn't), so I left it as the Orange Tree outside the window (representing the burning bush story) and the rest to the right, as I figured Jesus would only do the the miracle of the watermelon and pear if they were running out of food and not if they had plenty on the table.

I had so many ideas for different types of entries (the beans one, people playing pool and the balls being fruit, then there was a Carmen Miranda idea and on it goes), so once I was committed to the idea I did, that was it there was no turning back otherwise I would have never done an entry at all.

The whole idea was inspired by the Monty Python: Pope and Michelangelo Sketch as well so I should give them credit too.

I was thinking, when I read that comment that some people would call it blasphemy, that it's kind of interesting becuase it's true, but to do so ignores that by the same logic, the original Last Supper painting could probably be called blasphemy.  "How dare someone paint... (fill in the blank) ...in a depiction of Christ, or attempt to depict him at all."

Yeah I collected some as well, then I was going to put the fruit hat on Travis from Big Brother and base it around a theme like that, but couldn't find any good pics, the story sort of just happened though, as I started things popped into my mind, so it wasn't planned (well apart from getting the idea from Monty Python of a penultimate supper with extra guests).

In fact that is the second time we thought alike on this one as I nearly did a pacman based one as well, then I saw your orange/kiwi one and stopped, was going to use a game screenshot and change the dots to fruit, and Pacman to a fruit, etc, etc.

I can't speculate about blasphemy Candy. I don't like being thrown into a category of people who feel they know the answer to that, or who care to speculate and pass judgment... or who claim to know much anything at all for that matter.

If you want to make another entry, then I'm not and haven't been stopping you, nor do I feel it's really fair to blame me for your entry that you imply was done out of charity, which by the way isn't as soon as you brag or complain about it.

Also, re nicely... I threw mine together in less than 2 hours.  You took... far out, I don't know how long.  I took the time to do 2 more after that... there's no cause for having been nasty.  If you can't be more blunt for the appropriate reasons then piss off.

I am proud of my picture. Does it really matter how long it takes... It was entered in time for viewing. There is no blame in the game. Just a bit of fun. I can't see what upset you. Sure the idea came from something you said...but it is my work and my entry and I don't care who likes it or not....I enjoyed doing it.

The implication was that mine wasn't 'nice' enough.  I don't really enjoy the negative criticizm because what you're saying here really when yo say you wanted to show me it could be done 'nicely', is that it can be done with taste, or class, or appropritately, and that mine wasn't.  It's an insult of charachtor much as it's a detriment to the charactor of an artist when someone says "that's just inappropriate art" and very much so when it involves nudity.  I very much like the artist that I rip off those nudes from, but I'm not particularly good at putting them together into something... it doesn't matter, because if I continue to compete here I'm quite sure I'll be using them, and when I hear in the same post that I'm being needy, and that I didn't do it 'nicely', what I hear is this:  "Yeah there's Dean being needy like up there in the chit chat thread rambling on about his 7 month long sex problems and then forcing a reaction out of people because he thought, oops, that was quite embarrasing now on second thought, and here he his posting the pervy pictures that aren't appropriate."  The second part having not much more to do with anything but not being able to find fruit to adequately cover pubes apart from bunches of grapes, and cramming unrelated things together because individually I liked them.

So... perhaps this is me being "needy" again but it looks to me that there was deliberate implication in what you said.

This said, I slept for I think, one hour this morning, and apart from that I've been awake for 29 hours and didn't have much sleep behind that.  So clarity of reason is not with me now.  I'm just going by my gut, which is more often accurate right about now.... and has just started telling me that I'm right but I over-reacted some.  I don't know.  Perhaps I'll figure it out after sleeping.

btw.  It's easier for me to keep my mouth shut when someone's art sucks or just to focus on the aspects that dont.

Thanks Dara, it does mean something to me to know I'm not momentarily insane again, however I would have rather just have the conflict with Candy and sort it out between me and her, or end up defining our boundries if it isn't sortable, but apparently we need moderation like that of pre-school children... I know I'm being reactionary and pissy and am in a bad mood and haven't slept and haven't been sleeping and am feeling over emotional, but I don't think it's been reason to step in yet.  I reckon I need to be a lot pissyer before that should be necisarry, and I say that with confidence now of... oh hell like 31 hours without sleep, except the one hour, so that's a pretty strong conviction about how I feel about that, moderators and Glen.

I can't handle this over moderation.  It's feeling like if we aren't blowing bubbles and seeing rainbows then we're getting warnings... or so it seems, and it's been the trend in the past as well with other people.  I was on this site when it was just a plain text bulletin board linked from the 'discuss this program' links in the TV guide 6 years ago.  From then to now, this place has become a joke... and it's been an ongoing joke, Glen.  The only time anyone wanted moderation was to ban spammers and bona fide trolls yet no one stepped up.  Now you people can't stand down and there's no good reason for it since there don't even seem to be links that come here from the the guide, or anywhere else I've come across on the site, nor does the forum link anywhere.

Hell... as a matter of fact, the only spam that ever got removed was the signature to the alternative place I made when you screwed up file permissions so badly that there was no working forum for months at a time.... twice!  f*** me I guess.

Now candy is leaving the forum maybe and you hate everyone

:S

I think it's a good forum, it's not over moderation, compared to neighboursfans.com (you do like 1 extra ! or don't use a capital or bold your sig and they like kill you   very rude) ......... but yeah there wasn't even a fight yet, no one is swearing or anything (unlike the video I came to post on the BB thread!)

omg.

I don't hate everyone.  I was frustrated at being told to drop something, when dropping it felt like it would just leave it festering at some point later on, and it led to some past frustration especially with previous hippocracy surrounding Paula's comment toward cactus and all the other's moderator's refusal, including glen, to remove it.  The rest of my post was just me being angry.  And yes, that's over moderation when... well it's the second sentence of this post.  The neighbors forum you're describing is tyranny.  I wouldn't post there.  And btw, it just occured to me when re-reading, when I said that "Thanks, it's good to know I'm not being momentarily insane," I was being sincere.  I noticed that it might have read as a smart arse comment but it wasnn't and especially when I wrote it feeling not even half there from sleep deprivation.

Advice to who?

If you HAVE to ask, you DO need some sleep. Anymore ranting bloody posts and I will ask Admin to remove them. This back and forth has gone on for 2 pages and frankly is ruining the Imaging thread. Bringing up ancient history regarding Cactus, MD, is just not reasonable. Candy was upset to the point where she has left the Forum for maybe a little while or maybe forever. As a great contributor to these forums, it makes me sad she has. My advice to EVERYONE (that means all contributing members to this thread) is to get back to imaging and stay on track, please.

I addressed her with two posts, not 2 pages.  Candy has apparently messaged people about the issue but skipped out on the relevant person... me.  If she wants to leave then that's her prerogative, and messaging people about her feelings was her prerogative, but tt was pretty childish that it got thrown back at me from anyone other than her, as if I'm responsible for any decision she's made.  I put some thought into removing my account last night, but the responsibility for doing so falls on me and no one else, and there's little I can do to resolve someone else's feelings when they don't talk to me.

Finally you answered the question.  That's what I was after when I asked it, was weather you meant me or both of us involved.  I'm glad it's 'everyone' however It's pretty displeasing that you throw at me the responsibility for a decision someone else made.  Clearly I'm the bad guy of the TWO POSTS EACH that were made despite the phrasing of 'everyone'.

It's my decision to leave, but it's utter crap that you hold up Candy's feelings to me.

Image Contest 4

Well it's been.. interesting

The conditions were "desktop sized", so candy's apple is disqualified, albeit being my favorite.

It came down to mackay and tasman. Mackay, I like yours, it took a lot of work, and looks good too. Tasman, I'm not sure about the writing, but I do like it a lot

Ultimately, the winner is............

           TASMAN

Congrats!!

I've been wondering as we do these... the w3c stats still show the majority of resolutions being 1024x768, but the margin isn't huge.  So I keep thinking "I wonder what's the best size to go with for the person judging the comp?"

Good to see everyone feeling better and it's good to see you feeling better Candy.
I wasn't real thrilled about the place you were in.
As for the exchange of words, it seems very insignificant now and as such I
don't feel that I need to peruse it unless it's to address your own feelings about
it.
Welcome back.
...wait, I will say one thing on it, I'll indeed try not to be so damn needy or...
can't think of the word... pedantic when I'm sensitive, maybe I'm meaning to say.
Anyway, it's good to see your feeling better as well.

Tasman I reckoned yours was on the short list all the way through.

This is a really lazy first attempt and hopefully I'll have time to do others, or at least other ones that are worth even posting... it's actually my second attempt seen here and not the first.  It was really rushed, so I actually forgot to add some detail of effect that I was planning on, but it isn't a big thing really.
It's a stereotypical opera house, I know, however it is actually the view of it from the botanical gardens where I got married so that's my excuse, although this one would have been taken with a telescopic lens, though not a massive one or anything.  The outline of Australia came from an outline of Australia.  I'm not really too keen anymore on posting the original photos unless I feel particularly proud though, or writing a summary, but I did so just to lead myself into what I find interesting, which I doubt anyone else will though, is that for lack of finding a plain calandar for this month, I opened a command line window, changed the date so the highlighted day was on another month, asked for a text based calendar, then zoomed into the desktop (Linux compiz-fusion thing, Windows users may drool now if they feel like it) massively and took a screenshot.

Thanks Suzi...I love that photo (don't know who that dog belonged to ) and this is the first thing I have done with it. Always thought the sand looked great with its ripples and deserted beach line. Its an early morning shot.

Only three to judge from this time ...maybe it was too hard for some

I actually thought each one had great things about them and each was worthy of winning. However there can be only one winner....

and this time around the winner is.......

Yeah I'm still around.
Good on ya for the Gold Class status btw.  Soon it will say "Addict" under your name, or whatever it says when you have as much online time as Dara does
I barely post here according to my stats

I think Candy's looking to move on to something like "Cartoonize a picture of a landscape and put something else in it" or whatever, when she says differant.  Is that right?  The normal stuff is getting a little boring?
Whatever it is I reckon I'll give it a shot whatever it is even if it hoplessly sucks.

Congrats on the win Candy.  I knew you were blowing us out of the water with this one for sure.  I didn't even bother trying to make another one after you posted it.

lol. No, I thought it sort of looked like a weird blue looking part of an inner ear that you might see on a poster at a GP or on a take apart model or scan or whatever.  I don't really like it, but I wanted to put an avatar up after I put my account back.   The post count is because I deleted my user and then signed up under the same name.  All the previous posts still have me as a guest member.  I'm not that fussed about post count though, and if I have a day where I do I can rest assured that I spend way too much online so inevitably it will be an embarrassing number.
I still have my avatar but I'm was using it elsewhere so I figured for other people posting on both forums, seeing my same username and same avatar over and over might be annoying.
I'll probably make a new one for this site at some point.

Okay, you wanted it so try this one....

IMAGING COMPETITION 6
Create a image blending a person with an animal, insect or statue.
ie Centaur (half man/half horse), Pan (man/goat) or any other mixture you like.
Size.... I will leave up to you.
Deadline Saturday 28th June

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program.
It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
It works on many operating systems, in many languages.
GIMP may be downloaded free
http://www.gimp.org/

This video shows some basic imaging techniques...how to replace a face in a image with another face.
From Enselic...approx 10 minutes. (You may wish to take notes)

Happy IMAGING everyone

It's Captain Kirks Face on David with a fig leaf, in case it needs explanation.

I know the face looks horrible but it was rather difficult, I think the lighting fell on them differently or something but it was really hard to jive.

Thanks Candy.  I'll probably have time to try a man animal.
It seems like a really hard combo because of blending the fur.
I had tried to put George Bush's face on a Donkey but it's
fairly impossible to blend fur with human skin when doing a
face, so the centaur thing was a good suggestion, as was the
insect.

Thanks Tasman.
I've actually been apathetic with this one and
made a bad attempt at another then gave up
entirely.  I happened to have watched the same
tutorial Candy posted a while back when she first
asked about software, and had already done the
Einstein one at that time.
So as not to discourage anyone who might like me
also feel apathetic because this one is a little harder,
don't feel bad... me too, and I already knew what I
was doing in the above submission so it doesn't count
as having been hard to get motivated toward.

Congratulations MeanDean and KIWI on your entries.
Both are brilliant and I like the comical satire you injected into your creations.
Its funny KIWI that you chose 'Paris' as I also was working on one of her as a butterfly.
Its a tough decision......

Wow my first win!
Thanks Candy.  I'm happy even though we didn't have Tasman
to go against.  A win is a win and I'm in a good mood this morning.

I'm not wanting to delay the game, but at the same time
I'm wondering what people are up for in the way of difficulty,
amount of time they can spend if any.  Basically, I'd like to get feedback
on what sort of things you, as entrants, would like to do as a competition,
and then hopefully I can try to formulate some sort of in between, so if
one person would rather do something insanely skillfull like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K_NQe57C-k <--That's always impressed me
and someone else just wants to copy and paste the eblah logo onto a green
background, then hopefully I can come up with something to suit both, or everyone
who gives feedback.
Personally, I'd like to be able to post a picture of something and say "You have to
work with this in some way shape or form.  It doesn't have to be the centre
of the peice, but if it's just going to be a watermark, then the watermark should
be somehow related to the rest of what you did."  So that there is my input that
I'd like to somehow integrate with yours, as participants, and I may or may not
use it.  I feel pretty flexible and might even add more, but I really would like to
get input from people who even think they might enter.  I guess I should add that when
you're weighing your options, I won't incorporating anything into it like "Here's an image
of a hot naked girl to work with" or "Here's something that might be offensive to
Catholics to work with" or any art I've been known to enjoy in the past.  Also, if your
ideas are better, I might just go with that.

If it turns out that we don't really have much interest in the thread anymore, then
I'll still probably give one to do and just leave it hanging until the next person comes
along to revive it.

Hmm. The doing what we can with a picture you post could be good. Would it have to be a specific size? It would be good if we could make anything with it, whether it be a background or something else.

Yeah sounds good.  I'm tempted to go ahead and find something to throw out there but I really should wait to see if anyone else wants to have input.  Hopefully I'll remember to if no one else does and the thread doesn't get bumped.

Yes...I want to keep going. Don't mind what but its good to share pictures and get feedback.
No-way could I draw something from scratch like that fast draw clip you posted, though.
And time is a problem for me so something over 7 to 10 days suits better.

I was going to wait longer to see if Tasman or anyone else
was going to input anything, but I'm really tired and will
fall asleep, and I already would have forgotten if Candy
hadn't bumped the thread by posting.  It's been a half awake
and long day.

You have to include the following picture.  Resize it to whatever,
change the colour to whatever, rotate it however... etc.  There
aren't any rules at all, so no image size either.

We'll give it until the 16th of July at 3:01 am Eastern Time for the
entry deadline.

I remember this.  This is when me and Candy got in a fight and then she disappeared and I got really upset about the backlash over it and deleted my account and then Dara emailed me asking why I deleted my account and then I think Suzi had something to do with it but I don't remember what and then I wrote a big ramble in another thread about breaking both my wrists 10 years ago and being unable to wash myself and having to be really specific and tell the nurse "You have to wash under them" and "you have to wash my bum better" and she was used to really old people so they sent a gay guy the next day and I was not used to that and ended up having to learn some weird methods of showering, and then I went on to explain the problem with having casts on both hands for 5 months when it came to sexual satisfaction in the absense of a partner and what the workaround for that was and because of the last part, everyone was afraid to respond to the post so I felt really embarrassed and I bumped it a few times but still no one would respond and I felt like everyone hated me because I'd pissed off Candy here in this thread and then Candy finally replied to the post so I felt a little better.

So yes lol... I remember this thread very clearly

I don't think I ever told the story about the nurse from one of my operations on my wrists that was hot and hitting on me and I'm pretty sure was just wanting my pain killers though...
I'll inflict that upon everyone on some other day at the other forum.  She didn't get me or my pain killers though, to make a long story short.
