Hey, here is a new game that I stole from another forum
Welcome to the first edition of the Eblah Video song contest! (EVSC)
What is it? The EVSC is a game where we can all share videos with songs that we love, find thought provoking, anything we like! Participants vote for their favorites and at the end we crown a winner, who can choose the category of the next round.
How to play: Simply select the video you want to enter, and PM it to me, "dara", with the Artist/song name and the url for the video. This time the topic is.. Anything! When we have enough entries, the edition will begin, I'll post them all here, and people need to PM me their votes before the deadline is up. The voting will be eurovision style, 12 points (best), 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. You can promote your entry once we begin if you like. Um, have fun..
Rules: -The video must contain music of some sort -It must be from youtube -You may not tell anyone your votes, nor collaborate with another person to win (unless a team event is specified) -If you do not vote within the deadline, 25% of your total score will be deducted -Do not reveal your entry before it is announced -You may not enter a video that has been entered before (I will make a history thread if this goes well) -Anyone not playing CAN vote, they will be counted as a jury vote
Yeah, there is no set topic this time so any song you want to enter you can. Then message me it in a PM When we have at least 10 people we can start, so I announce all the songs, you guys have a while to vote, etc etc.

Edit: Nevermind, if we only can do one then it will be this one I'm sending, so I guess I don't need to know, and now that I think of it, we should probably limit it to one video per contest, but that's just my opinion.

Ok! We have 10 people! We will be starting tomorrow, Wednesday! So people, the deadline to enter is tomorrow afternoon! Then I shall make the draw, put up the videos, and we can start the contest! ^^ And I just ditched my maths assignment to make a banner
you award points on a scale of 1-8, 10, 12 to the people you want 1 point being the lowest and 12 points being the highest. A country (or in this case a person) cannot vote for the country they reside in. When all the results have been tabulated we will find out the scores. If there is a tie for first place ESC rules, a count is made of the total number of countries who awarded any points at all to each of the tied countries; and the one who received points from the most other countries is declared the winner. If the numbers are still tied, it is counted how many sets of maximum marks ("12 points") each country received. If there is still a tie, the numbers of 10-point scores awarded are compared—and then the numbers of 8-points, all the way down the list. In the extremely unlikely event of there then still being a tie for first place, the tied countries are jointly declared the winners. thats the esc version, i dont know how dara will co-ordinate it
Thanks Matts. I think he's saying, Paula, that we ignore the missing numbers, because Europeans are weird, and don't use them, and that we can vote two or more people as having the same score. So just score normally, but ignore the fact that there's missing numbers, or interpret the discrepancy in the sums however you want if it effects your scoring.
BTW guys, I did not send my entry in because it is my taste in music, , god forbid, I think Gunther is hilarious because he is so..... ummmm....... what's the word....... different? My 7 year old friend, Abby was here the other day and watched the video with me and started dancing like the girls. I laughed and said.... just don't dance like that in public!

as there is 11 entries every person will recieve at least one point except yourself (because if you voted for yourself thats just lame). i have given each song a score from 1-8, 10, or 12 and thats how you will send your entry in. You can't given two or more people the same score.
note: these scores are an example only and is not necessarily how i scored. in addition my entry (as SuziH) does not represent my music taste, i just laugh every time i see it

Paula, it is so that the favorite songs and the highest point scores are worth more, are more desired, because they are special and much more than normal, hence why we skip 9 and 11

It has been a great edition with a lot of interesting videos, many funny ones submitted this edition. In edition 1, many contestants did not know how to vote, but after much adieu, those problems have been solved.
As we all know, the winner of this competition will have the honour to select the next editions topic, as well as being the first ever winner of this contest. So, on with the show!!

Lowie you can always add the audio to some other video or to a static image. The one I want to use someone used a cartoon from the TV for video since the band never made one. I don't know how to do this in Windows but I'm guessing someone else would if you really wanted to bother.
I take it we can enter any video of our chosen entry, anything that may be available freely on YouTube and the like, and not necessarily an 'official' release by the artist/s?
OMGOSH... i'm so SORRY!! i hadn't the time to visit eblah as i was busy studying um.. i don't think i'm reliable enough to host the next contest , i'm sorry!! everything is happening this week.. before the easter break. i've got lots of assignments to hand in and tests to do.. so sorry for not responding earlier!!
In QLD we have exams every term And I'm doing year 12, so every single thing counts. We have no end of year exams except for QCS which is stupid. So every term we have to take exams :O And I have physics and maths this week. And we don't get time off to study. And we have assignments as well. *sigh*

Good on ya Paula! There's enough people here who've been around long enough that even if we weren't there for the music, we've heard stuff up to 20 years before our birth and a lot of it is good music, so I'm betting that this genre is anyone's game. The best rock was recorded before 19___.... I'm afraid to fill that in because I don't want to isolate anyone. There's some good stuff today, but I think most people of my generation would agree with me that the best rock was before our time. I find some stuff today really good as well, but it's often just really really hard to hear a new song and say "There's a band that's doing something I haven't heard before."

Nannyfan I'm assuming you mean like a tutorial on manipulating images? Is this right? I can give you pointers for sure. For starters, if you don't have photoshop you can download GIMP, or some other project. I used to to use it on Windows but it's been a really long time and I don't use Windows anymore. The interface would be the same though, so if you installed it I'm sure I could try to answer questions about it as well as I could, or if you happened to have a program like photoshop then likely someone else would have it as well.

Blasphemy! I haven't entered yet! (As Silly's still in the process of releasing his new music v-... errr... I'm still searching for a suitable song to submit for the competition. )
Also, if you find yourself looking at a tutorial on another OS like Linux or FreeBSD it will still apply to Windows. It's the same program with the source code compiled on a differant OS is all, and if the interface looks just a little differant it's because the versions of the program might be differant, and also the buttons and other widgets will have some differances in how they look. Don't be deterred by any of this, just ignore it.
Candy if the help file is a pain I just typed gimp into youtube and got all kinds of results for tutorials. Don't be deterred by any of this......
Thanks heaps I was going through tutorials for several hours last night, and still not getting very far. Had to stop and go to bed. Had a 0600 hr start today and ended up working 12.5 hours. Will check it out again over weekend. Thanks again.

Yeah I looked at a couple. I learned all sorts of stuff in both of them, and one of them was for complete beginners, but if I didn't already know some basic stuff I wouldn't have understood it. The best thing to do to start is to open an image file and just start doing stuff to it, messing it up, then you get a little familiar with some of what the little buttons and controlly thngys do on the main window. After that you'lle probably need questions answered. Soon you'lle be giving me tips

Seems normal to me. Everything increments by one except for the last two which increment by two, just like in the the real thingamabob. Otherwise you have an increment of 2 at the beginning, then by one, then 2s at the end, unless you start it out above one which is fine but it confuses people.

Thanks MD...re GIMP..I spent several days learning how to use programme, then posted my picture..but deleted it within the hour, so probably, no-one saw it. No didn't come back to pester you for more help.....found plenty of tips on net. I am not an artist.

It has been a good competition, with many excellent videos. We lost some players, but also gained a few, and things have run fairly smoothly! The theme was ROCK, and the videos were an interesting collection of the genre. After Meandean and Paula have voted, we have our early results. Dara is leading the way on 15 points, closely followed by maf-you on 12. It�s early days though so who knows what will happen, people can be winning the whole way then be nipped at the post. It�s interesting to note that our last editions third place getter, shawty, who was leading for a lot of last edition, is currently in last place. Will that change. Let us see.

I assumed that each individual was automatically assigned the maximum number of points of their video. (isn't that how it works in Eurovision? )

Ooo, I've got my song! It's been on my playlist for the past year and a half. It gives me the shivers, although the horribly bland music video doesn't do the song justice.
Cancel what? Paula if you have the song, it's easy to make a video, go to windows movie maker, add lots of photos and sound, then upload to web, it saves it as a web file, then upload it to youtube.

I'm still very upset after watching my video again. I am struggling to come to terms with the deaths of some of my band members just prior to filming this very emotional clip. Don't worry about me though ...my troubles are few compared to the poor people in my clip.

Triple posting. Glen I hope you didn't avoid the last one because you're scored low the first time around. Also, mine actually isn't even very good this time around. If I had posted something that made me cry it would be something really cheesy like... some stupid sentimental scene in an action movie or a TV show or something, but only I would fully appreciate it, so I did a song and the only video I found that wasn't non-live and was worth doing was sort of lame. I plan to lose hard, but even still, mine is so sad, that it's just some video somebody threw together to a song that lots of people have heard too many times... It's just that sad.

And there might not be a presentation thingo unless someone can help me make a program in MATLAB to make a wheel go around in a circle, with the velocity dependant on a joystick (and they expect a first year student with no real knowledge of programming to be able to do this ).

Well after a chat with my lecturer I was able to program the damned thing. Although I have a busy weekend, Pokeroke, 18th Birthday Party to attend, Orthodox Easter, as well as tidbits of hw, I will work on the presentation. But it still won't be up until the 1st of May when my internet becomes unshaped.

I did. I walked away for 15 minutes then came back (did this a few times over the last day or so) and still the same thing. I wonder is it a video card issue? It's not my connection as everything else is superfast. It's just anything with a video in it.
It wouldn't be a video card issue. It would either be YouTube or your ISP, give it a couple of days and see if you can play them. If not I'll could always send you the presentation in the mail lol!

The sideshow actually wasn't that bad for people familiar with the band because it has a bit of original artwork in it. There's a bit of nostalgia in it. It was indeed sort of cheesy, but I don't think there was actually a studio cut of the video ever filmed, and that seemed like the best thing to go with amoung all the videos I wanted to use. I'll admit that I didn't spend as much time as I could have looking for the perfect one and didn't really expect everyone to like the band or feel nostalgic either, I even like the song but have heard it so many times that it gets old again if I hear it more than once a year now.
When you vote, remember than mine had partial nudity in it, and that no else's did. It's like when you watch TV and don't know what's on and see a movie starting on one channel and they say "The following movie contains course language" and then you flip to see what else is on and see a movie starting and "The following movie contains course language, violence, sex scenes, and nudity" and you haven't heard of either one, then you pick the second movie... same thing applies here, mine deserves extra points because of it... This somehow makes sense
You know I don't even remember what I scored people now. I remember who I gave the 12 and 10 to but beyond that I'm drawing a blank entirely, so seeing my scores on the award night will be as interesting for me as for everyone else.

I'd like to thank my parents, my wife and daughter for supporting me, the band Pink Floyd, the drug LSD for making the band Pink Floyd a little more popular than they might have otherwise been, Youtube, whoever it was that uploaded the video in the first place, sunny aftetnoons in Alabama at the end of the dock behind the boat house out in the open but where no one could see with my pants dropped around my ankles and the guilty feeling afterward, the fact that the movie The Fifth Element was filmed even though it was sort of a flop and never given a second and third chance by the public. I'd also like to thank Jenine from high school for being hot, you were nice to look at Jenine, sorry if I mis-spelled your name. I'd like to thank God for making me, and for putting boobies in the world, fine work on the latter. I'd like to thank Eblah for webspace to host the competition on, Dara for thinking it up, Maf-you for holding the competition and for not maffing me too hard. One final thing, I hope there isn't controversy over my victory later on, as slideshows speak so profoundly and deeply to our soul.

I do. It's not like the guy hasn't had a good long time to get his vote in. He's either unable to work for some reason or he doesn't even have the forum feedback threads on notify. This competition is coming on a month or something, and he's 11 days to vote. I personally feel like a fool for ever putting forth anything into the suggestions... the administrators come around and listen quite well when they implement a new feature and we come accross bugs and broken links and offer feedback on what we didn't block and thus was an effective marketing strategy on other parts of the site. Then they can't even log on and tell someone where the ebroadcast tv guide is located, as a recent example. If you don't bother to vote in the competition then you either can't because of whatever circumstances, and it should move on, or it wasn't important enough at the time. Why the hell should those of us who cared wait... I'm sure it fucked up any sort of video presentation if maf-you had been wanting to do one. And by the way, if you think you're special enough that the rest of us want to wait around for you to sit on your voting results being sent in, because you think it's funny or whatever the reason Silly, then you're wrong... No one wants that... no one. It'd just be you being inconsiderate. I seriously doubt Glen wants to be incosiderate beyond the fact that he probably forgot, so I hope no one's arse kissing because he's an administrator... he's not intentionally being inconsiderate, he forgot and he's hardly ever here so lets move on when maf-you is ready. That's my feelings.
When I screwed up judging the imaging competition it was because I screwed it up... because I got involved in something else and I forgot.. when you forget it's because you don't care like you previously did... it's how forgeting happens at all. Surely it must have been a frustration for the people who had entered, but if I wasn't judging it at the time and had stated that i'de be entering I wouldn't expect anyone to wait around for me to submit an entry. I'd be acting like a jerk to think I could toy with the game as if I actually mattered enough to hold it up. I sure as hell wouldn't expect you to care enough to let me hold things up.
I've made a decision that if his votes aren't in by midnight, unfortunately we will continue without him and his entry is just a filler. 11 days is quite a while to get voting done IMO

Candy, Green Mile, amazingly written by Stephen King. The Movie I cried ALL THE WAY through the movie. After reading the book I knew what to expect. Powerful movie/story. What a cute little Mouse.

Got that wrong..the old people are the elderly Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hank's character) in a nursing home. The woman Elaine is a friend to whom he tells the story of the Green Mile...I think I will have to watch it again now, I have forgotton some of it.

In retrospect I probably should have used the Sim video that someone made for the video a few years back. It was pretty sad although I figured it might have been a little too graphic (there are images of bruises and slashed wrists in the vid ).
I think we have had enough sadness so I propose a Dance Video Music Competition. 1) Dance Music (any category) 2) Has people or animals or cartoons, dancing 3) Closing Date for entries: end of May, Saturday the 31st.

I've already made up my mind. One video really stood out for me, and I'll be happy to see it win. I thought the voting process was quite easy really. There were some really good entries, and some which didn't really mirror the dance genre at all.
I've voted on a star scale. I gave 1-5 stars (no 0.5 intervals) for both the songs and the videos, and I combined the two scores to come up with a total. I've ranked video above song, so if there were any tie-breakers, the better video would outrank the clip which had (IMO) the weaker song.
I'm currently in the process of uploading a clip-show so you guys won't have to go around clicking on each video individually to get a good idea of what they're all like (or if you want a recap of all 9 vids). I'll post a link as soon as it's available.
I think I made mine confusing. The video was in Dara's post, but it said Unknown for the band. The second one was to clarify the band, and that I wasn't being lazy with it as I literally spent hours before I settled on anything, but it had a differant video. You have the wrong one. It makes a big differance.
[rant] Mine just looks like a damn rock concert. I've been robbed! I spend like 3 or 4 hours on youtube looking for a video and can't find a damn thing so for the one I liked on like the third selection when I started. It doesn't have the band's name but I'm too tired of looking at the screen and send it off and say I don't who the band is. The next time I come to the site I get a message stating who the band is, so no worrys about googling a small section of the lyrics with the word "lyrics" becuase now we know right? No, wrong. All the entries are up and it looks like I just threw some random crap up because it says "unknown". I clarify and screw it all up by not being clear enough, because I feel like I'm walking on eggshells about it already so it's a hard post to forumlate. In the past, I've always been annoyed that I've had to watch all the entries individually (some of which I hadn't bothered watching more than a few seconds of ), so I hope this does every clip justice as I've tried to pick out a minute-long chunk which showcases each video/song's strengths (if any ).
but yeah some aren't really what I consider 'dance'.
I remember somebody submitted "Ave Maria" for the rock round. But I really like that song so I didn't penalize him/her. Some anti-genre entrants haven't been so lucky.

Sorry about that. I wasn't sure so I chose the one which that I liked more (plus the audio quality was marginally better in the concert video).
I don't want my clip to detract from the original videos. I still urge everyone to make an effort to watch the full length versions (at least of the ones which they like best judging from the previews).
Ulead Videostudio Plus 11 (an upgrade to version 11.5 can be downloaded from their website). My mum bought it because she wanted an upgrade from version 9, and the student price was around $125 (down from $200) which isn't too bad.
It's not a feature-packed editor by any means, so you might want to try a demo version first.

I think it would be a good idea to put reasonable time limits on entries, and then on voting. I find that I care way less about the results when waiting for such a long time, like the whole thing is almost meaningless by the time the results are finally posted. I'm not trying to b****, but in all honesty I think we could accomplish the submissions in half the time and voting in like 1/3 the time.

Well guys, it is time once again for v5 of the EBlah Video Song Contest. The theme as you can see is Elvis, Queen, and Kylie. All entries must have a song from one of these 3 renowned artists, whatever else is in the video is up to you!
I am hoping this time to have a voting presentation. But in saying this I will need votes in pretty quickly, so no bludging around! When we have a minimum of 10 entries there will be a 7 day countdown on whoever else wishes to add their entry into the competition. Once these 7 days are complete, the day following it will be the presentation. Voting will then be open for 4 days only, and then 2 days after that the presentation will hopefully begin.
Without actually having put any thought into what I'd even want to do if I could, or can even figure out how, are you implying that we can mix songs together with the audio or just the video when you say 'whatever else'? For example, if we use only half a Kylie song or chopped a Queen song into fragments that would be okay, or is it more along the lines of a complete song with whatever video? I'd hate it if I tryed to learn how to do something new and came up with a submittable item and it wasn't allowable.

I was pretty sure it was the case. We'll see if an untalented fool like me, running a Linux box and open source video editing software, possibly only at the command line if I can't really figure out the GUI tools, can accomplish anything worthwhile or if it's just a straightforward submission from something already on youtube. Most likely the barrier here won't be the software but that I probably suck at this sort of thing.
Hey guys seeing as we are on V5 of the contest I thought it would be fun to look at some statistics.
Only 4 people have entered all 4 contests. They are: Kiwi, MeanDean, Shawty, and myself. Of these 4 the best to worst are: Shawty(213 points, 53.25 average), Kiwi(207 points, 51.75 average), Maf-you(199 points, 49.75 average), MeanDean(165 points, 41.25 average). It is funny to see this as I have won two of these contests.
MeanDean holds the record for having the most number of a single score, racking up 9 "7 Points".
Kiwi holds the record for having the most favourite video, racking up 6 "12 Points". This can be debated though as Candy has 7 "10 Points" and one of the contests had the highest score as 10 points.
Wurtzel holds the record for the most disliked video scoring 5 "1 Points" in their debut entry, this could possibly be a penalty from entering a video which didn't quite fit in. Keep trying Wurtzel!

In regard to some of the entries, I gave maf-you's submission a slightly lower score (even though I think I ranked it at like #2 or #3) due to the banality of the lyrics, the fact that the singers kept lip-syncing OTHER people's lines, and that I simply despise Eurotrash (although it was so bloody catchy that I wouldn't resist giving it a high score ).
I absolutely loved Tasman's entry though ("No-one like you"), and eagle eyed viewers may have been able to tell that I deliberately included the bit where the lovely ladies in the vid are getting undressed hehehe.
Anyways, I'd love to be able to enter the next round of EVSC, but unfortunately I cannot enter at this point in time since YouTube is banned in Turkey. (Feel free to do your research, but it has something to do with the fact that there are a number of anti-Ataturk videos on YouTube, and in Turkey, it is a criminal offence to deface the flag; and to speak ill of the country or of Ataturk ).
I should be back by early to mid July (anywhere between July 10-12), so I doubt that I would be able to fix up a submission in time for the contest.
Anyways, I haven't been doing at much at Turkey so far (I've been spending the last few days at my aunt's house), however I'd love to go to Gallipoli and Istanbul with my dad if he decides to go there when he arrives.

For example, if a Grand Finale participant such as yourself were to vote, your votes would be allocated as follows...
1. Personal Entry (1st Rank) (12 Points) <=== This vote goes towards your own video(s) and cannot be changed.
However, since you have won 2 rounds, whichever number of points is usually given to your 2nd ranking (let's say 10 points), then the sum of the two scores will be averaged so that both your video submissions will receive 11 points.
For participants whom have only won one contest, the rest of their scores can be distributed as follows...
2. Opponent's video (2nd Rank) (10 Points) 3. Opponent's video (3rd Rank) (8 Points) 4. etc. 5. etc.
However, non-participant voters (such as myself) will be able to rank videos in any order they desire. I think the voting system should be organized in this fashion so that an equal number of votes are distributed between all the videos. yeah, I hope that made sense.

I was thinking that too, however I think we should have a wildcard only if we cannot get through 8-10 rounds by the end of the year. Perhaps the runners-up with the highest amount of points should get through (even if they are already eligible for the Grand Finale). Just keep in mind that the more times you win EVSC, the greater your chances are of winning the grand finale.
My 2 cents...I don't think even Champions should be able to vote for their own video at all.
The only reason I want Champions to get the maximum number of points for their own videos is so that the distribution of scores is even between all videos.
It's ultimately the non-participant votes that will determine who wins the Grand Finale.

I'm currently staying at my maternal grandparent's place (who are currently staying at their home in the village), and my mum and cousin are out shopping at the local bazaar. I haven't had a chance to do much since I came here although I'm looking forward to going shopping tomorrow for some cheap jewellery and perhaps some Turkish dubs of English movies . Pathetic, I know, but I know what I like.

I've tried to stay away from the computer since I came here, but since I'll be spending much of my time at home today I couldn't resist finding out who won EVSC (as well as filling myself in on what's been going on in BB since I left ).
If I don't get a chance to at least see more of my cousins (and see either Istanbul or Gallipoli; although I REALLY want to see both), I will be utterly disappointed in my trip. Plus I'm really annoyed that my Turkish is extremely limited now since I've barely spoken a word of it since my last trip back in 2003. I'm getting by, but it's really depressing that I can't string more than a few words to my beloved relatives; many of whom I probably won't see until we're even OLDER.
And I really miss my beautiful cats back home, and I can't help but to wonder how they're coping without me. On my second night in Turkey, I dreamt that they were both malnourished, and their voices were hoarse and croaky as they begged me for food. I know I'll be ssssooo glad to see them and I hope that they'll be just as glad to see me.
But that takes away from the excitement of who gets the 12 pts??

A court in Turkey on Wednesday ordered blockage of all access to YouTube, the popular video-sharing Web site, over a video deemed insulting to Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.
The ban followed a week of what the media in Turkey dubbed a "virtual war" of videos between Greeks and Turks on YouTube and came as governments around the world — including France — grappled with the freewheeling content now readily posted on the Internet.
The largest Internet provider in Turkey, Turk Telecom, immediately complied with the ban and cut off access to the site.
The video that prompted the ban in Turkey allegedly said that Ataturk and the Turkish people were homosexuals, according to news reports. Insulting Ataturk is a criminal offense in Turkey. In a front page story, the newspaper Hurriyet said thousands of readers had written to YouTube complaining about the video.
For Turkey, the ban will present a further hurdle as concern grows in Brussels that Ankara is flouting free- speech norms necessary to join the European Union.
The latest controversy comes as Turkey is going through a difficult period in its relations with the EU following the decision late last year by Union leaders to partially suspend entry negotiations over Ankara's refusal to open its ports to Cyprus, an EU member.

If it has anti-Turkish under/overtones then it probably will, but in terms of content, it was only recently that they have adopted a classification scheme for film, TV and video games in the country (all 3 mediums use the same guidelines). Their rating system is pretty screwed up though. They allow some really bad thematic and violent material even under their G rating.

Really, couldn't they just have their own localized version of YouTube (like our Aussie version) which they could censor themselves? It seems pretty stupid that they would ban the entire site over a few insignificant videos.
I'm sure there were similar videos which would have sparked the ban. You'd think it would be quite easy for Turkish ISPs to censor just the one video instead of blocking off the entire site.

I started trying to put together a video yesterday, just putting snippets of other videos to another song without even really syncing the movement to the beat, and GAH! what a pain! It's command line conversion of everything to the same frame rate and size, gui to pull out this 3 second part and that 3 second part, appending one after the other, and then not even knowing what it will look like when I add audio. I think my entry is just going to be nothing more than a bunch of good looking women shaking their bums to Jailhouse Rock in a non-synchronous manner if I don't come across a good open software tool for this. I haven't actually looked for a good tool yet, so presumably this is the problem, though getting a tool for something done that isn't half arsed and cheap, and then learning to use it, by the time we have enough entries isn't looking good.
Thanks Dara. I got that far already. I think maybe I'm just impatient and want the ultimate software for free and it doesn't exist. Also, lol, it's a good way of having an excuse for a home grown video that sucks I guess

Too young to love/like Elvis (he died when I was 22) plus I like less ballady songs. Now, Queen, loved some of their songs especially the song that featured in 'Highlander' and sorry but I cannot stand Kylie Minogue. I am sick with a head and chest infection at the moment and not up to any kind of thinking. I have asthma permanently and this makes the infection even more crappy. I think covers should be acceptable, as it would IMO be extremely boring if all we had were original or slightly remixed versions of Kylie/Queen/Elvis songs. I say be creative with your entries. Just as long at least one of the artists is featured in your video in some way, it should be accepted.
However, videos must feature K/Q/E in a significant (and hopefully creative) way as fleeting sound bites or frame grabs are unlikely to be accepted if you should decide to submit an otherwise unrelated video.

I'll shamefully admit that I do like some of her songs however I absolutely HATE her more recent efforts which are heavily electronic/dancy post 2001/02. Kylie's passable as a mainstream pop singer, but if there's one thing she can't do justice (and mind you there are a lot of things she can't do right ) it's dance music.

Welcome everybody to the eBlah Video Song Contest v5, where we are going through more seasons than Channel 10 does with its episodes of US Dance (which is on 3 nights a week now! hehehehe shameless plug )
This contest's theme is music from the King, Queen, and our pop Princess... well actually it's just Queen and Kylie. There are 9 entries this time around and we will be implementing voting scheme 2 (as that seems to be the general consensus).

EDIT (2:59pm): For some reason, on YouTube the audio is horribly inconsistent. It's not out of sync, but the volume keeps going up and down at times. This wasn't an issue with the last vid, and I didn't notice anything peculiar about the WMV file that I uploaded... what gives? Anyway, it's not that big an issue, but I just thought that I'd point that out.
It was interesting with LB's I tried uploading it from the link he gave me and the tag wouldn't work properly, so I decided to look for a similar copy of the video and found it last night and it was working.

I think Queen has more of a timeless quality to them. To this day, you'll still hear Queen songs on the radio, and people are quite familiar with their music.
While Elvis is certainly iconic, I think he is known more for his appearance, voice and career than he is for his music.
I just rank them in order of my most to least favourite and let the contest runner do the hard work for me.
And I agree with Tasman... voting is a LOT tougher this time around as the quality of the videos is more consistent. Last time I didn't have a problem ranking all the entries from my most to least favourite. This time, I'm (almost) completely stumped.

Well my bottom 2 were songs I didn't like. Others, a couple were raised on video.. a couple were raised on song. A certain video was lowered about 3 spots when I changed my mind what song I liked better. But then I loved them both. Lol.

I think I've figured out a way to select the wildcard contestant(s) for the grand finale. Basically, the more contests you enter, the higher your chances will be of making it to the finale. Members who have already won will not be eligible for wildcard consideration.

Plus I might just allow 2 wildcards into the finale (depending on how many contests we can get through by the end of the year), so your chances are looking pretty good at the moment, although you'd better watch your back. I'm not that far behind you know.

I too loved Shiela's voice. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it's just Matt's voice with the pitch decreased. (considering that Matt's voice in the video was obviously deepened for some reason )

Hello all!!! Welcome to the sixth Eblah Video Song Contest of 2008. Tasmanland extends a warm welcome to everyone to join in this latest extravaganza. As we open the proceedings tonight, a team of supporters are working on a finals show not to be missed in the first week of September.
But first we need your entries!!! The theme is Chilling!!!. Thats chill out, ambiant, relaxing, soothing, after-party, light & easy, beautiful, mystical, esoteric, groovy, World music, Lounge music, whatever music/video that lightens your load.
All entries must be sent to Tasman by August 22. We are hoping to have all videos presented to the voting public by August 24 along with a voting compilation presentation prepared by the renowned Sillygosty production studio. So no bludging around, our producers are very busy people and cannot be delayed! We hope to have a minimum of 10 entries. There will then be a 5 day period for entrants and the general public to vote, closing on August 29. Then shortly after that, an amazing and original finals presentation broadcast will begin, and the EVSC V6 winner will be announced.
I was working on a Sims video earlier this year that would've suited the theme, but I can't be bothered finishing it off. However, I've been working on a video of my overseas trip which I didn't get around to completing, so perhaps this contest will motivate me into finishing it off.
(Hold your horses, I won't actually be appearing in the video myself )

I suggest with the compliation lessening the time of each video to 45 seconds if you wanna keep it under 10 mins... bloody Youtube and their rules lol.

The last two videos showcased 1 minute from each video, however at the moment, the early version of the current compilation video I've prepared has 55 second clips, however I'll need to drop them to around 48 or so in order to squeeze in Shawty/Morganpym's videos... AND, if I can get MeanDean to join (I've PM'ed him), I'll need to shorten them even more.
This will give participants all the more reason to watch the full length versions of the clips they enjoy best so they can make an informed decision during the voting process. (BTW, I've already made up my mind on who shall be receiving my 12 points, however ranking the rest of the vids will be very, very tough).

Not much has been done at this stage (apart from an unfeasibly short 7 second opening intro, featuring at least 10 "blink or you'll miss it" shout outs to my fellow eBlahers).

I chose this video as I take the outdoors for granted, I spend too long inside and don't make the most of it. This is the chilling reality of what could happen in the future. The music is also very relaxing.. or is it?
I've kinda taken the theme and twisted it a little bit. I can just listen to this song and relax but it also gives me the chills when I haven't listened to it for a while. It's from the BBC's Children in Need 2006 Appeal thingo with Doctor Who, and basically its the song when Rose and the Doctor get split up.
"More Than Words" is a ballad written by and originally performed by rock band Extreme. It is built around intricate acoustic guitar work by Nuno Bettencourt and the vocals of Gary Cherone (with harmony vocals from Bettencourt), it was released in 1990 on the album Extreme II: Pornograffiti. This song features rich and beautiful melodic lines, harmonies and chords. It has been an extremely popular piece around the world and is a piece loved by all musicians due to its subtle nature and sophistication.
I love Jamiroquai and find their funky music so addictive. When I found this clip of one of my fav songs I knew it was perfect for 'chillin'. The only problem with Jamiroquai doesn't put out new albums/songs often enough.
The Turkey trip that you've heard so little about has been crammed into a 4 minute music video for all to see. I can't get enough of this utterly beautiful song. I can listen to it ad nauseum without growing tired of it; plus it brings back some very fond memories of a trip that was over all too soon.
I was laying in bed one night, dead tired, half asleep with SBS going on the telly in the background. Then SBS shutdown for the night, their little weather maps and background music came on ….and then this …it was haunting and beautiful. Turns out it’s a Tibetan chant.

All photos and videos were shot in Turkey across various locations (however most footage takes place in either my paternal grandmother's house, or at the village preservation society where an annual reunion/gathering took place).
While I don't appear at all in the video (although you might be able to catch my reflection against one of the glass doors ), my baby brother makes a number of appearances as well as both my parents, my uncles, aunts, grandparents and cousins (there wasn't enough time to squeeze everyone in though).
Change of plans. Hopefully I can release a slightly revised version of the clip show by tomorrow morning. UMG records identified the audio in Lowie's clip, and while they allow the use of their content (as long as they get to post ads or whatever), I just don't want to run the risk of having my account suspended over something so trivial.

But one of the videos which IMO, has a rather weak video ranked highly with me, so it primarily depends on a combination of the two. Even a really terrible song can be ranked more leniently with me if the song/video is creative/unique.

With the compilation vids, I try to scatter the videos so that each video has a different tone/mood to the last one that screened (for example, I usually wouldn't have two animated videos or two songs from the same genre screen one after the other) however I try to end them with some kind of an "epic" video/song.
I have gone over my quota of 40gb this month and my new month starts tomorrow... YAY! So will watch them all, in full, tomorrow and Silly's compilation! Can't wait. OoooooooH, I'm so excited... and I just can't hide it.... I'm about to lose control and I think I like it..... lalalalalalal Suzi goes off singing... or is that... singing off?

Heck, I've pretty much completed the opening sequence and all that (and prepared the leaderboard and some other minor features), HOWEVER, all this can turn to sh*t if I can't prepare the results show within a reasonable timeframe after all the votes have been tallied (in which case, Tasman would have to create one of those web-based results presentations).
Plus, there will be a special surprise in store for you guys if I go ahead with the results show. But hey, don't get your hopes up. There's a chance it might not see the light of day.

Oh, definately. From a technical standpoint, the results show will be easy to produce, but I know it will take me about a day to put it all together.
Because my mum and brother will be returning to Australia on Wednesday (I came back earlier due to uni), I won't have as much free time as I used to as I can only ever create videos and record my voices when NO-ONE is around (well, I don't mind my brother but he can be quite loud ).

What is it? The EVSC is a game where we can all share videos with songs that we love, find thought provoking, anything we like! Participants vote for their favorites and at the end we crown a winner, who can choose the category of the next round.
How to play: Simply select the video you want to enter, and PM it to me, "dara", with the Artist/song name and the url for the video. This time the topic is.. Anything! When we have enough entries, the edition will begin, I'll post them all here, and people need to PM me their votes before the deadline is up. The voting will be eurovision style, 12 points (best), 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. You can promote your entry once we begin if you like. Um, have fun..

Yeah i knew my video was pretty crap...i couldnt find a better video and didnt have the time to make a video....plus i wouldnt know how to, as i dont know much about computers and editing and all that stuff lol.

Actually, they were trays.
In each of my 4 live action/family/community videos so far, each of them have had at least 1 shot of an animal and 1 shot with unmuted sound (my subtle "trademark" if you will ).
I tried to be careful with where I placed that certain shot (of the trays dropping) in the video as I didn't want it to completely draw attention away from the song. It was there as a moment which I hoped would have caught viewers off-guard, and was purely tongue-in-cheek. Eh. Each to his own, I suppose.

PLUS... for the first time ever, if you wish to provide a brief personal video or audio reflection or commentary on your video, you are free to do so! Commentaries may be submitted either as links or as attachments in AVI, MPG, MP4 or WMV format (don't let this restrict you though as virtually any popular file format is acceptable).

Mimmi Sanden comes from a family of singers, her siblings Molly and Frida competed in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2006 and 2007. Mimmi was a backing singer to Molly in 2006. It's soooo close. I imagine with all the 10 points still up thats alot of points to still go on and everyone is still pretty much in it. The biggest surprise for me is LB, I thought his would be higher.

And I thought it strange how some people gave close votes to mine and Suzi's entry, but then some would give low points and then top points to the videos.
The funny thing was that I didn't notice that SuziH and Matt had submitted the same song until I was putting together the compilation video. I was thinking of informing them that they'd both submitted the same song, but I figured that the videos were different enough to justify keeping both entries.
Congrats to everyone. It's been a tremendously fun round.

OMG OMG OMG!!!!! Just saw at 8am EST that I won this round with my pal Candy breathing down my neck in 2nd place. Thank you so much people! I am honoured and thrilled to win once more. I felt I was true to the theme of Disco. I was looking to enter Donna Summer because she was the Queen of disco but the videos were of poor quality. 1978-1983 was THE best time of the Disco Era IMHO. Shawty has overtaken Tasman as the most consistent player in the competition, thanks to an improved result in the last contest (plus the added fact that he has entered all 7 rounds of the competition, as opposed to Tasman, who has entered 6). Same applies to me and Matt.
These rankings will determine which non-winning contestant will be eligible for wildcard consideration (a 2nd wildcard will also be considered in the event that a previous winner is unavailable to participate in the finale). Multiple winners will be permitted to submit multiple videos, however they are only allowed to vote once. More info will be revealed later in the year.
Can't think of any video that would suit the theme ATM, but I'm sure I'll find something.
I wouldn't mind hosting again, however I won't prepare a results show this time around (at least not of the calibre as the last one), due to uni committments (and the fact that the last two took long enough as it is ). Of course if anyone else wants to step in, by all means.

Oh matt that happened to me when I used fall out boy in a video.
I got "busted" with the Chilling compilation video due to Lowie101's entry. The second I noticed that I received an email from YouTube, I panicked and deleted the video only to realize that they allowed the content to remain on YouTube.
In subsequent rounds, I will most likely omit any videos which may be identified by YouTube and replace it with a Rage-esque sequence which only shows the song title/artist.
I guess it's settled then. If you guys want to start submitting your videos to me now, feel free to drop me a PM. Although this isn't strictly relevant to the EVSC, if you guys are interested in checking out what Agnes got up to before she started hosting the EVSC, then you might like to check out these episodes of Sim Idol, an online reality show which ran for 3 seasons (2005-2007).
Agnes auditioned in all 3 seasons, but never made it through the audition process. She also auditioned in the 2nd season of The Sim Factor, but that got cancelled after the first episode.
Agnes was originally going to be a recurring character in a Sims comedy/drama series that I working on several years ago, but I decided to "axe" the series before she had a chance to make her debut.

Welcome to the 8th round of the eBlah Video Song Contest! The winner of the previous contest, SuziH, has nominated Desert as this contest's theme. This includes anything related to summer, the beach, Egyptian and/or Middle Eastern culture, sand, oasis etc.
Since no-one has been game enough for the role, the hostest with the ghostest will once again host the latest round of the EVSC!
For all you n00bies out there, the game is simple... submit a video of your choosing (as long as it pertains to the theme) to Sillygostly via PM (personal message) or e-mail. Then, when all the entries are revealed, you must then rank everybody else's videos in order of your most to least favourite (this is also to be done via PM, and you may not reveal your votes until the results are released).
PLUS... if you wish to provide a brief personal video or audio reflection or commentary on your video, you are free to do so!

No, no. That'll be reserved for the grand finale (where Matt and SuziH may submit two videos each). However, the votes for both videos will be counted separately.
If they decide that they only want to submit 1 video (which would be a stupid, stupid thing to do ), then the extra spot will be giving to a wildcard contestant (which will be determined by one's overall consistency in the contest, based on the rankings you've seen earlier).
I messaged SG about something and I told him the 5 videos I might enter, definitely one of them. How much bandwidth do you guys get per month? We get 10,000 G peak, 20,000 off peak
I have 12GB peak and 24GB off-peak. I don't usually come close to exceeding the limit though.
And yes Dara, I've stressed numerous times for you guys to CONSULT ME!!!! whenever you're in need of assistance (or if you just need clarification on something).
For future reference, there's no time limit on videos (LB's last entry was around, if not over, 10 minutes in length) so your videos can virtually be as long (or as short as) you want. I would recommend that your videos be at least 30 seconds long, and not exceed 5 minutes (since some users may grow impatient with excessively long videos); bear in mind though that this is merely a suggestion; not a rule. I'm certain that there are wonderful videos in excess of the recommended length though.
Shawty's last video for instance, was a little over a minute long (I think) so most of it made it into the compilation video. *hint hint*

In regard to Gigs per month.... I upped the plan my housemates were on to 20GB peak and 40GB off peak. I pay the extra $35. per month for the plan increase.
It's with WESTNET and it costs $69.95 all up per month, it is wireless. I was paying $79.95 per month with CHARIOT for 40GB ADSL with no off peak/peak times at all. I have been with a few different ISP and changed for different reasons but all of them, except TELSTRA BIG POND were excellent. I would rather ADSL myself. Regarding EVSC..... a close one hey Silly? The last one was a hairs breadth between Candy and me! Gotta get two more after this one, in before Christmas, hey gang?

Expect a revised compilation video soon, complete with all the other administrative bits.

I'm thinking of doing a short video starring the ghostest with the mostest himself by using this technique by combining real life images with Sims furniture and hand-drawn Paint animation (since I don't have any animation skills ). I doubt I can be bothered pulling it off though.

If I do make a "show" however, it will be strictly barebones; in other words... no host, no narration, no Dara on Agnes pashing, and no build up of suspense or anything of the other goodies. HOWEVER, I might consider throwing in a Dara/Agnes scene just for laughs.

Sometimes it's hard to figure out who's video is worse than the other bad ones, and sometimes its hard to figure out who's is the worst because a good number are good. This one was confusing for me to judge because some didn't sound good, some did, but I wasn't sure te theme wasn't broken. Also, I gave consideration to the ones that were odd, for example needing subtitles, when they were clearly on topic of the theme where others weren't. It was overall hard to weigh this time but I was generally happy with my results when I was done.
Congratulations Candy. Love the song and I love the video too, I haven't seen it before. It was one that I really wanted to score higher but there were pretty green trees in it.
Well MALCorp have preliminarily chosen one of its two entries into the Grand Finale (assuming and hoping that the Grand Finale is free choice to allow full creativity display and musical freedom from each entrant). It is in the form of so dubbed Eurotrash and we cannot wait for the show in 2 months time... look forward to seeing you all there.

I HATED the Aladdin video. Cluttered text all over the bloody thing. I actually didn't mind the song, and I definately would have scored it higher if the song was accompanied with an actual video/storyline, but the video was just dreadful IMO.
As for yours, Matt, I hated the whole Hollywood sentimentality thing which inundated the video. Almost everything about it irritated me. The way Mufasa and the lioness kept staring at each other lovingly (spare me ), and the way the animals reacted over a bloody cub. Again. Nothing personal. My votes were more of a reflection of my sentiments towards Hollywood.
And no, I'm not being anti-America/Disney. Australia has has their fair share of sentimentalistic bulls*** as well (i.e. Packed to the Rafters ).
The best way to get my points is to choose a relatively unknown song, accompanied by a video which visually portrays the song in a creative and/or entertaining way. Of course, you can't please everyone.

I finally put together something that wasn't simply found on youtube, but found on youtube with differant audio and video. It was a lot easier than I thought. I can't submit it yet, apparently. The yotube thing waits a while probably to resample it for their formats.

That doesn't usually take too long for me, but it took me HOURS to upload like 4 videos today. (Literally, it took 4 hours). And 2 were only 1.5 mins.

I used the command line for it mostly though. I tried it once before but had troubles because it was multiple videos and they had differant framerates. I'm trying really hard to think of a hottie joke or pun but nothing springs to mind.

Well, yes. I don't feel that over-rated, over-exposed, over-praised media is worth my attention (in most cases anyway). Of course, I'm only human, and I was a sucker for Perfect in the last contest, which is the only reason why I ranked it as highly as I did. Usually, I'm not this generous. I tend to root for the underdog.
Over the course of the contest, I've considered submitting songs/videos that would've appealed more to the mainstream (and I KNOW I would have ranked higher with my other options), but I'd much rather submit something different and/or unusual and try my luck.

With the high standards being announced, and probably becoming a trend, I figure it can only help to mention that I redid mine, so it isn't just a song with a differant video, but a song with a differant video with the lame parts taken out, and one or two of the lesser lame parts used more than once to fill in the gaps. It's an 8 minute song so it was impossible not to recycle some parts without breaking theme.
Also, my current list of hotties is as follows: Tasman (where's he been?) Dara (It's a zen thing) Candy (Law of the universe, more rigid than zen) Sillygostly (temporary crush) Glen (just kissing arse to site admin though) MorganPym (Its so sexy how he never posts in this section) LB (I like older men) My wife (If I was a story telling pig, then I would spend the day typing. I see I'm not the only one who was reminded of Winona Ryder's shi**y performance from The Crucible. That movie did NOT do the book justice.
For once I actually preferred the movie. The book was too punctuated by stage directions which got really annoying. Although the film is a bit hard to follow. But I liked her performance as Abigail. I didn't find that so much this time. For me it was, 3 movies were not halloween.. a couple of videos were crap/no effort... some were gross... my favourite song had a bad video.. my favourite theme had a bad song....... but yeah, I'm pretty happy with my votes

This includes any song where two (or perhaps more) artists collaborate. Note that the theme does NOT cover bands. And yes, this means that LB has nominated me as your hostest with the ghostest.

Savage Garden would not be considered a duet as such, since one performs the music while the other sings (as far as I know). While they may technically be considered a "duet", in most instances (that I'm aware of), the music industry typically refers to duets as a collaborative effort between two ordinarily unaffiliated artists (or groups/bands).
For example, these could be considered acceptable... * Two artists (e.g. Britney and Madonna) * Two groups (e.g. Coldplay and U2) * One group and one artist (e.g. Coldplay and Bono)
I don't know if LB would agree with me on this, but I think what he wants to see (at least I know I do) are unlikely pairings of artists/bands that don't ordinarily perform together. I think it would be a massive cop-out if someone submitted say, a Rolling Stones or a Veronicas track without any further collaboration from other artists.
Feel free to take liberties with the theme, but this is my interpretation of it.
MALCorp has chosen it's song but has not yet submitted the video. The decision lies within whether the board wishes to choose the original song and run the risky of being too cliche, or go with the modern twist on the song but it is that far out there that we believe it may not attract votes. Dilemma, dilemma, dilemma!
Considering the volume of entrants that the EVSC ordinarily attracts, I don't think it's practical to have a deadline since we only have 1 entry in so far. I'll announce a deadline once we get more entries in.
I wouldn't have objected to that if it were submitted to the EVSC, however, I may have made a bleeped version for those who are sensitive to that sort of language.
You can still submit it if you wish though (however I would advise that you remove the link from your post immediately so that we can keep your entry as secretive as possible ).

I'd use instrumental bits of songs, piece them together and either sing, or have other people sing over them. They were dreadful, I tell you! If YouTube was around back in those days, I probably would've uploaded them. But there's no way in hell I'd do it now.
